I pretty much do the same thing, I save time by selecting the subject and adding it to a new layer with a mask. The flypapers are superb though, I've been using them for a few years now. Thanks for the vid

Selecting the subject IS an awesome idea! I'll have to try that out next time. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked the video!
Thanks for the tutorial ! would this work with the original backdrop being white ?

Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I mostly use this technique for darker backgrounds but it could be used for lighter ones as well. I would stick to softer, more pastel colors for the texture in post but it should work, yes!
I use the Soft Light blend mode. It's not as harsh as the Overlay blend mode.

Nice! Yeah, I always find it’s best to experiment with all possible blend modes and make the decision on what works best for your particular background. I’m often switching between several blending options, including Soft Light 👍
Really straightforward! Thank you!

Of course! I appreciate the comment 😊 if there’s any subjects you’d like to see covered in future videos, let me know!
Very interesting, great ideas. How do you handle stray hair that you want to preserve? And how to make the line between subject and texture have a realistic transition?

Really great questions! Since we're using an Overlay blending mode, stray hairs and flyaways will still be preserved. And if you want to tone them down later, I suggest flattening the image and removing them after. As for making the line between the background and the texture realistic, I have two further steps I also take: 1. I add a soft gaussian blur to the texture to replicate the natural, softening with your depth of field and 2. I occasionally add a slight shadow behind the subject to demonstrate the distance between the model and the background. Maybe I'll create a new video with these tutorials in the future! Thanks again for the questions! 😊
Great video. Question, i tried this and the outline edge of the model was very sharp and appeared to be place over the top of the texture as opposed to sitting in front of it. Is there a way of softening the edge of the model to sell the idea they may be sitting in front? Thanks

This is a great question and definitely an issue I've had to deal with in the past. In this situation, you have two options: 1. Dodge and burn the outline of your subject to make the lighting match the background more realistically or 2. select your subject and mask a shadow behind them. Fill the masked layer with black and play with the opacity until the shadow appears realistic.
Nice

Hey what was the flash power?
Can i do this using phones
how did you get to the point of the background showing it doesn't work for me
FYI - You have to purchase the fly papers textures selections, they are not free
@JoeFunk

Yes, this is correct. Please always purchase the collections. They have great textures and deserve compensation. I did not say that they were free in the video.
