How to Add a Crochet Border to a Knit Project

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video shows how to add a crochet border to a knit project. This video is especially helpful for knitters who just want to know enough crochet for a border on their knit pieces. A crocheted border cleans up the edges and can hide the tails and loose ends of your knitting.

Thank you so much for this video - you're an excellent teacher. I'm teaching myself to knit and have completed one scarf and one afghan. I just finished my second scarf and it called for a crocheted border. I had no idea what to do. After watching this video (some parts over and over and over, lol) I was able to crochet the border and I'm pretty proud of the way it looks. Thanks again!

Thank you. I'm a beginner who is almost done with my fist large project, a bottom up triangle shawl and feel it needs a finished edge. All the videos I saw about i-cord edging looks difficult and very time consuming. This method looks so much more simpler. I was thinking of just weaving my contrast color all around edge lol. This seems neater

Is there a way of calculating how much yarn you’d need to do this edging on a blanket? I want to do this in a contrasting yarn on a blanket I’ve knitted but don’t know if I’ve got enough

Hi Ruth, For every 12" of single crochet border, you'll need 4 yards of yarn. Does that help? If you need further guidance, email me at lynn@nourishandnestle.com and I'm glad to help.

Hi, can I add this crochet boarder to a knitted scarf to stop it from curling? Wetting/pinning in place didnt do too well..

Hi, most any border will help knitted fabric stop curling, though I can't 100% guarantee that. I can say that it won't make it worse! I also have an knit applied cord pattern that you could use if you prefer to knit. nourishandnestle.com/how-to-knit-an-applied-i-cord/ or studio.kzread.infoo0NARhkSQzU/edit

OK. Do you start with the wrong side or right side and from left to right or vice- versa?

Good Morning. You'll want to work your crochet border with the front side of your work facing you. If you are right handed, work rows from right to left and in the round counter-clockwise. If you are left handed, work from left to right and in the round clockwise.
