You’re so right!! Why dress for someone that hates on other people’s clothes? Like if that matters enough to them to say something rude then that’s kind of sad… And it’s just like you said, sometimes we’re so self-conscious that we assume the worst of other people when actually they’re not judgmental at all!

It is important to stay aware of everything that is happening, and to also be informed. But I don’t know if we need an opinion from every single influencer. Gigi’s niche is fashion and lifestyle, and that is what she knows how to research thoroughly and format well. I think it is amazing that so many people are getting involved and being informed, but with that I think there’s a part of me that believes that pushing others to advocate and inform might just lead to mindless parroting and misinformation. I’m a journalism student. I read at least an article on Palestine (and recently Gaza) everyday. I have friends working in humanitarian relief groups who have more quality and first hand information than me. I choose to use my personal social media account to try and help, and follow my more informed friends leads. Disengagement is a choice, and not one I personally understand, but I’m choosing to believe (from the perspective I have in the parasocial relationship) that Gigi is probably doing something in her off screen life for this cause, or maybe for another humanitarian crisis. I don’t think malicious is behind her silence, but probably a level of insecurity around talking about an international genocide as a fashion KZreadr/young film student. (I want to make it abundantly clear, Free Palestine and I am aware of a lot of the horrific atrocities happening at the moment. I’m not justifying mass silence or wilful ignorance, I just think there might be better places to receive information from than here)(also very sorry for the mini essay, I’m currently working on a piece about cancel culture/misinformation so I’ve been thinking about this stuff a lot)
