    one of the tips i like to give to my friends whenever i play multiplayer is "stop moving", since a lot of people who are bad at dodging (conciously or unconsciously) enter a state of panic, especially when at low hp, where they just keep running and dont actually focus on the projectiles. granted this style of play works for most vanilla bosses and even a lot of modded bosses (most notably Exo Mechs) so its kind of hard to actually convey unless we're fighting something like providence, where moving too much will kill you very fast, and even then a lot of my friends took this advice very literally and just fully stood still.

  • @YARDlS

    @YARDlS

    Haha, too relatable! In one of my first Death Mode Calamity runs with my buddies, we hit a hard wall at providence because of what you just said. Everything else was fine until Scal, which we again hit a wall because we panicked a lot during the old one shot bullet hell phase she had when she was still an eyeball.

    I gave the same tip to my friend A LOT during our Death mode DoG fight, and throughout the playthrough we had too. He was always like, "HOW THE HECK ARE YOU SO GOOD AT DODGING" and he was supposed to be the veteran here. Me: *stop moving* especially during the projectile grid attack of DoG (since he struggled with that alot). Doesn't even have to be done with a mount, just a regular platform will do.

    My main tip would be: practice by not attacking the boss and let it does its attacks. Try to spot any consistent or repeating patterns, be it the attack cycles or how the boss moves. Do this enough time you will eventually develop muscle memory for it.

    I can see that this took an immense amount of effort to create, and I applaud you for putting in as much work as you have. It's always heartwarming to see smaller (sorry, lol) KZreadrs putting so much effort into their videos - especially when it's so obviously focused on their community's interests rather than their own. I would like to suggest that you, when you update this map eventually, add variation to the lengths and widths of the spaces in each of your obstacle courses, so as to prevent the development of muscle memory that may hinder your training. As the courses stand right now, there is little to no variation, meaning zero adaptation or reactivity is being trained once you have become accustomed to the courses - meaning these courses will become a means to an end, rather than a steady method that would be reliable for long-term practice. Granted, any set obstacle course that does not move around like true projectiles would will develop such muscle memory, but it would be a worthy alternative if you can find the time to build it. Just my two cents, you've certainly done an infinite amount more than anyone else has bothered to - so I'm not bashing you at all. Thought I might voice my thoughts in case you hadn't considered the variation problem. If you have and just decided you'd rather not, fair game to you :) Great video, earned a like and subscription from me.

    First I'd like to thank you for the in-depth comment! Love it when people take the time to drop thought-out comments like these, haha. Thanks for acknowledging my efforts and no offense taken for calling me a smaller KZreadr, it's simply true (for now, heh). Great suggestions, I greatly agree with all of them! Not sure if you checked my description, but I did acknowledge how basic and weak the obstacle course currently is, and I already plan on updating it eventually. I'll definitely use your comment as reference whenever I finally update it, haha. Having everything be so linear and similar will definitely lead to long-term muscle memory issues if used for too long. Welp, anyway, thank you for the great comment and support!

    Coming from both Touhou (2017, all games yhat were playable on windows) and Hollow Knight (in 2022, got it as a gift), both games gave benefits to dodging, Hollow Knight has gravity, while Touhou helps with, dodging more Touhou was the series that made me think I wasn't on Malice mode as the bosses seemed too easy, it really helps, even if the gravity is different, you get used to it in Terraria (Though if gravity keeps screwing you, either more Terraria practice is needed, or Hollow Knight) I've played Undertale too, just, it never helped much since you don't fight any bosses in confined spaces... (There's Golem, but, it's Golem...) Personally I prefer making my movement in all directions as equal as possible, it feels more similar to Touhou, and gives higher degrees of movement, (dashes I don't use as often since it's lead to a few incidents, plus, no boss requires a dash) some ways to do that would be: Using helpful items like the Portal Gun, or Slime Mounts to increase falling speed, or Feather Fall potions, or the Umbrella to decrease it Use the wings or boots that have high acceleration and max speed, (you sacrifice some flight time, but... Soaring Insignia, if you're playing a mod that removes infinite flight, it most likely also has wings that are better, and grant more flight time than vanilla ones) Alternatively, the Gravitation Potion with the Portal Gun or a Slime Mount allows fast vertical movement in any direction, though needs lots of practice For fast circular movement, the Anti-Gravity Hook helps, though you need something to grapple onto, and some planning is involved Use movement items that allow you to stop quickly, from the Ice Rod (that can go very badly, but it works), Grappling Hooks, or movement accesories There are also many types of dodging, such as dodging without wings using platforms, dodging with dashes, dodging by outrunning the enemy, dodging by teleportation, ans more Also, use a weapon that doesnt cover the screen, other projectiles, or is too distracting, or does too little damage, homing helps Razorpine, Resonance Sceptre, Rainbow Rod, Clorophyte Bullets, Nanite Bullets, some Summon Weapons, some Sentries, Whips without projectiles, are all good options, and there's more too With these, you can beat any boss (though items differ slightly in mods)

    Agreed. Its called sight-reading technique Sightreading is also crucial on predicting where the attacks going, which is good since you dont have to really thinking hard as long you know the pattern and its behavior its a technique that when you look at the obstacle within millisecond and execute wether where you moving and where the obstacle/attack is going... it takes less toll on your mind and not exhausting than literal reflex dodge... its perfect for ppl who want take a boss that takes longer to beat... reflex dodge takes a alot of toll on your mind and make you exhaust yourself faster. It's good for training your mind, but its not good for first timer...

    ok so I'm not insane at dodging or anything but i have nohit some basic stuff so i just wanna like mention some stuff pogo stick is another alternative to slimy saddle that I've seen some people use (I personally dont use mounts so idk, but you can try it out if you wanna) I think personally playing some touhou games helped me be better at knowing how to dodge bullet patterns and get used to micrododging even though the movement is different, id say it can be a good learning experience I am a huge featherfall fan, especially if playing on defiled I dont know how people play without it..., Personally I am Really bad at switching controls so i just could not get used to using W for jump or a dash rebind looking at other people's nohits can be really useful cause nohitting is very much about having a strategy and knowing what to actually do for each part Something i surprisingly dont see anyone using is an input display, input displays look really cool and can also be useful when watching vids, id recommend it tbh (i wrote this all extremely tired so i couldnt be bothered to have proper grammar or anything i hope its readable)

  • @YARDlS

    @YARDlS

    6 ай бұрын

    Great two cents, especially for being tired when writing it, haha. What I was trying to get across in the video when talking about how I think playing other games is overrated for improvement is that people swear by it too much, simply telling one another if they're struggle to "just play Touhou." Playing any bullet hell game will definitely give a lot more transfer than I acknowledged in this video, being able to read the bullet trajectories/patterns transfers very well, like you said. That's the main thing I wanted to clarify. Smaller stuff now, I believe that Pogo Stick is just slower than Slimy Saddle, but I believe the main benefit is that it doesn't mess up your hitbox and have risk of midair bouncing? Could be wrong, I've only tested it briefly. I'm sure defiled is infinitely harder (I'll be having some hands-on experience soon...) without featherfall... It's alright to feel like you're not very good at switching controls, I'd argue most people are! For example, I still can't get used to using featherfall potions or any other key for dash besides shift, even after trying for many days. I might try out the input display for a video I got in the works, I think it'd make for more engagement, haha. Grammar was great in the comment if you were worried, except for dropping an apostrophe or two and the final sentence, where you used the incorrect "its," haha. Sorry for going English Teacher mode... Jokes aside, thanks for the thorough comment!

    Before my recent Calamity playthrough, i never got passed the Profaned Guardians on a normal softcore world. This was about a year ago. Then i decided to do something stupid. I went and made a *Master* mode world and turned on Revengeance. Managed to make it to just before DoG and Old Duke, but thats where i felt my skill topped out at. Even used a mod item to turn it to a normal world and turned off Revengeance, still couldnt beat DoG. So i scrapped the world and the character (since if i couldnt beat DoG, how could i beat Yharon or Calamitas?). Now I'm doing something dumb again; Calamity + The Stars Above on Expert. Gonna use your advice and finally actually beat this damn mod. May not be on the level of Infernum, but i know my limits lol.

    Just gonna ramble on a bit here. Im someone with a lot of in death knowledge on terraria calamity specifically, i also have a lot of hours in it, around 11,000 total, and 6,000 in just calamity. Thanks to all the time ive spent pn the game i have a good base line muscle memory for the gravity compensation and dashing in it, with most other average movement tech as well, so i can consistently do most things in the game. And as a but if an odd fact i learned about myself in the kadt year or so, is that if i watch a video of a boss fight ir a genetic playthrough, with no very advansed movenet like nax acceleration, i can experience the things in the video as if i was playing it myself, by just watching it, since i can subconsciously translate the actions in the video and relate it to my own extensive muscle memory. As the most recent example i can think of, is the release of Nameless Deity, where i could kill it 1st try with the exoblade a weaponthat'stechnically1 tier below the intended shadowspek tier, with no actual experience in the fight, after watching 2 normal 5 minute kills on the boss. I tose 10 minutes total of video i watched i could mostly memorize the patterns and the general movements to dodge them, than put all that in to practise in an actual fight, during the end of my Exoblade crafting tree weapons only challenge run on death mode. Im not sure if im the only one who can gain actual in game experience fro just watching videos, since I've never heard of anyone like this before. Sadly this isn't a solve all solution fir because a god, since the movement and actions need to be something ive done extecively at one point or another in my 11k hour of gameplay, so something like high flight speeds with max acceleration like in the case of Yardis, is something i can't relate to my muscle memory, since it's just too volatile when compared to what I'm used to. But i can still mostly replicate mobility from an actually builds that don't focus on full mobility relatively well. Something like no-hitting is on the table for sure, but i genuinely find it tedious to do. While i have the knowledge and experience for bosses, but going through the attempts to get good enough luck that my brain and boss bothe make the same correct decision at the same time for the entire fight, seems and us very tedious to me, so i have no intrest in it. And honestly i find the idea of doing no-hits rather boring in concept, since there are a lot more interesting ways to shake up a playthrough than that, over 130 ways so far to be exact, i have a list of 90 some different challenge run ideas for calamity, and another dozen text files with multiple different umbrella ideas thathave multiple runs under them, so i have over 130 of them now, and if on average it takes me 25 hours per run, than that's 3250 hours worth of stuff to still do insted of boring and grindy no hits. The challenge run im currently doing is in simple terms just triple every spawn, this is not just 3x spawn rate, but rather normal spawn rates, where every tome am entity spawnz 3 of the spawn at the same time, there positions ate flipped horizontally, and this includes things like enemies, bosses, npcs amd evem most destroyable projectiles. So you cam get telefraged easily by anything, and also means that i need to fight triple bosses, where each boss spawns triple the minions each, for a total of 9 times the minions. Right now im working on triple Old Duke.

  • @YARDlS

    Just did some of my own testing to confirm some of my beliefs and previous findings. Movement speed actually does affect flight speed it seems, but it's extremely minimal, for example, based off the stop watch, my horizontal flight speed is 67 mph without Quick modifiers on all my accessories, and 69 mph with Quick modifiers on all of my accessories. I don't recommend move speed at all really, since like you said it only helps with running movement. However, in my video everything besides the Vital Jelly affect flight in some way, since it's all acceleration boosts. Acceleration boosts affect all types of movement, not sure for mounts though. You can feel it for example when using the Dragon Scales and especially the Magiluminescence. Hope this cleared some stuff up for you, reminder these are just my own experiences so I could be entirely wrong, haha.

    Everything I use is in "06:33 Movement Equips!" If you want more specific cases, say what I use for a certain boss, then I can answer that.

    Can you make a dodging tutorial in vanilla too though? Because i coud not do 3x EOL fight💀

    Well, I think this stuff holds pretty true for vanilla too, especially EoL+. Also, by 3x EoL... what do you mean? 3x speed or 3 EoL's? 3 EoL's simultaneously can be cheesed pretty easily by falling.

    I think my biggest weakness whilst playing modded terraria would be the lag. Even just normal mode DoG can be almost impossible because of the frame drop it presents, dropping down to 2-10 fps at times during the grid attack. My pc has pretty okay specs, and can run game like Overwatch at 360 frames per second, consistently, and games like Geometry Dash at upwards of 3 thousand frames per second consistently. But Terraria, I dont know how to make not lag. Do you have any tips or workarounds I could use to make my game run smoother? or at least more consistently?

    Hm... well I unfortunately really had too many lag issues, even when I had a trash PC. But, I do know a few things that couuuld help: 1. Reduce the number of mods you're using, a big culprit is the Boss Checklist mod, apparently it's a buggy mess and often interferes a ton with performance and other mods. 2. Use Task Manager to set the priority of Terraria to high. 3. Well I'm sure you know this but lower your graphics for laggy boss fights, I think lighting modes have the most impact in my experience. Set it to White for more frames. 4. Some weapons just cause a ton of lag for no reason, mess around to see if that's an issue. 5. Too many light sources seems to cause a lot of lag too, so avoid over-placing torches. I actually avoid torches entirely (besides for houses) once I get a good light pet or shine potions. 6. Terraria is a CPU intensive game, so if your CPU is a weak link in your PC, your performance will take a huge hit. A Super GPU (probably) won't carry performance for Terraria That's all I got from the top of my head, let me know if anything helped.

    Well, your tModLoader worlds should be located at some sort of version of this path: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\Documents\My Games\Terraria\tModLoader\Worlds Extract the files from the .zip in there and you should be good.
