​@@frankiebcatt3661 I read an interview of Elaine Paige where she said that after the opening numbers, where she would be Baby Grizz, she would then smear the make up for Grizabella. I assume every other actress for Grizabella also do the same.

"They're meant to be feline, but they're also meant to be human." Which is why Cats works so much better using make-up and costumes, than with CGI.

The problem with the 2019 Cats is much more than CGI, the directions that they took and not having many professional dancers like they had in the 1998 version. Although it's hard for me to truly know since I refuse to even watch the 2019 Cats. I have seen the 1998 version and that is a pleasure.

Actually, it has been confirmed that they originally tried the prosthetic direction, but unfortunately the dancers would have tediously sweating difficulties in hairy costumes, still, it would have been manageable if Rick Baker made a comeback

​@@scoutart1508Kaela Celeste made a video on "Cats" and talked about both the musical and film. She mentioned that another reason why make up and costumes weren't used was because Tom Hooper said that the make up "hides the expression" of the people's face.

The makeup of cats is like the 8th wonder of the world. Okay, maybe not this high but its amazing. It's the result when you dare you making somthing special and unusual.

The movie was bad but not as bad as the emoji movie. I liked some of the characters. But the MAIN CHARACTER looked like Spidaris Sunny Patch Friends

Veerle Casteleyn as Jemima...such a cutie...

For some reason this really makes me want to be painted like one of the actors. Just sitting there for hours while someone pokes me in the face with a paintbrush and eventually I start to look like Skimbleshanks.

I was gonna make a smarmy remark about how much better this was than the crappy CGI in the movie, but I see it's not necessary

Those working in the backstage are so under appreciated There's so much talent and hard work

Can someone tell me why I am suddenly obsessed with cats even though I haven’t seen the movie, just KZread clips of the 1998 play. Really I don’t normally even like musicals, but I find Cats to be mesmerizing.

It would have been my absolute dream job to perform in this show. It’s my fave! I left dance as a teenager but a boy from my ballet classes went on to work on the show later on. His pictures of him in full costume and make up of the various characters he played are amazing!

I like how the first line of dialog explains what's wrong with the 2019 movie.

Been watching a bunch of behind the scenes stuff and honestly, I just love that all the cast seem like just as much fun off-stage as they are in the show :) it's weird seeing them only halfway in their costumes, but it's worth it to get to see them smiling at the camera, joking around with each other and with the makeup and wardrobe people, and just generally having a good time

In general, I don't like musicals, but seeing this masterpiece, my view of them completely changed. It is simply magnificent, congratulations on the effort of the production and the dancers or singers.

The way they do the makeup makes the actor look different. Accentuating some features and dulling others. I'm jealous.

In my grade 12 damce class everyone us choreographing to contemprary pop with simplistic/elogant costumes... I'm switching things up by doing Rum Tum Tugger in full makeup/costume. I cant wait to see their horrified faces!!!

Please please please! I think that they have to do real scenes instead of little clips like these. Angel of music and wandering child are very little scenes, although I still love them! Remember, every show must go on video has to end wth the applause, so it has to be this real scene

Who will pay the royalties to all those professionals who have not worked for some months, with little prospect of working before the end of the year? One of my friends who’s a dancer was a swing cat and she said a lot of the time they did their own make up and in the dressing rooms it was chaos but the cats look awesome and the feel of the costumes is so silky I thought as when they come put into the audience they let you pet them on the shoulders on back like a real cat sometimes they’d rub against you and once I got a make up stain on the back of my hand as the can actor’s cheek brushed against my hand as I petted his shoulder when I later met the cast backstage I showed them it and they were laughing saying a little keepsake of the show took a photo off it before I rubbed it off

The transformation for cats is just amazing its a unique show I love it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

actually, the actors do their own makeup in the show. Because the makeup had to look the same for every shot ( they filmed over three months) they had artists do the makeup for this.

@@rancidprince3133 yes I'm very well aware they do their own make up as I stated. For the 1998 film, the make up had to look the same for every shot so instead of having the actors do their own applications, makeup artists were brought on to do their makeup to ensure that every makeup would look exactly the same for each shot as they would be filming over a period of 3 months. In the stage show it is custom for the actors to do their own makeup. The actors are taught one on one with the makeup designer (usually - in the case of the 2016 broadway reviva and subsequent tour, the makeup used was designed by Karen Dawson, however she was not involved with the production and most of the actors were taught how to do their makeup via facetime or zoom) The makeup designer does half of their face and they have to replicate the other half. Cadence Carell was responsible for the Broadway/US Tour make up designs, her makeup credit was removed in 1999 due to a conflict with the producers.

It's pretty fun actually! I bought some basic makeup supplies a few months back and learned to do this (with the help of a friend who had experience in drag makeup), and even though it was my first time doing it I think it turned out pretty well. I dunno if people do local productions around you or anything, but you could always look into stuff like that?

I equally love Mr. Mistofelees' Magical Illusion Tricks out of all the Special Effects of Cats 1981 Broadway Musical, the Cats 1998 Movie, and the Cats 2019 Movie.

I feel bad if you’re new to theatre and your trying out for this musical because you have to probably have so much patience with this makeup once it’s being applied. No coughing. No moving. No sneezing. Nothing. Still as a statue. It’s hard. Especially for someone starting out.

Lost count of how many times I’ve watched it 😊

Imagine doing this everyday before a show!!! I couldn't, I was just fidget the whole time 😂 thank goodness I have no talent so will never be able to perform!!😒😞

In the 1998 movie, that would be Veerle Castelyn. The character’s name depends on the production, but in most UK based productions (and in the 1998 film), she’s called Jemima. US based productions usually call her Sillabub. Everywhere else varies. She was dubbed by Helen Massey, who is now an opera singer, but was a teenager at the time.

I equally love Memory, Moments of Happiness, and Beautiful Ghosts out of all the Songs of Cats 1981 Broadway Musical, the Cats 1998 Movie, and the Cats 2019 Movie.

The actor who played munkustrap in the second clip is David Ashley. That's all I can remember. I don't know who played jemima or skimbleshanks.

This technique now being applied in everyday people at home to look glamorous 😅😂

I wasn't as horrified by the CGI of the movie like everyone around the world but these costumes and make up are still S tier. I wonder if there could have been a way to have these costume and a little bit of CGI. Like I don’t know what I want exactly.
