Do it! But make your bed first. This is key
@perfectjays
Жыл бұрын
Get after it brutha. But making yourself get up at a certain time no matter what even if you’re not busy that day helps so much. Making your bed will make you feel better about yourself and gives you a tiny form of structure which will eventually build confidence and turn into something good if you’re consistent. Also look at your bed as a representation of yourself and current life. If it’s messy, someone will look at your bed and think your a messy person and have a messy lifestyle. (That’s if you’re needing structure or trying to achieve a goal. This is for anyone reading not just the OP)

Applied psychologist here! This is actually great advice if you're struggling with depression. Hold on to your routines. Keep taking care of yourself. The moment you skip brushing your teeth once, it's going to be way more difficult to do it the next day. Don't fall in that negative spiral. Keep fighting. You can do it. If you _are_ in that negative spiral, it's a harder to get out of. But not impossible. You're stronger than you think you are. You've fought all this time and you haven't given up. You can do this. Don't listen to the voice in your head that screams at you to give up. That's your enemy. Don't let it win.

Quote "Dont quit today, quit tomorrow!"
In Tim Ferris's book, " Tools of the titans", which is a compilation of famous people's daily habits, the one thing most had in common was making their bed. Like this guy said, once it's done, you've already completed your first task of the day
Damn dude this just brought tears to my eyes. But not the sad kind of tears. Not the happy kind, either. Straight adrenaline tears. Motivation times a million. Thanks brother.

Really needed this. Work as an EMT and Got injured on the job by a guy who didn’t stop behind us on the highway and plowed into us at 60mph. Every day has been severe back pain and I still have to carry people up and downstairs. Had to ice between every call and it’s been hard to stay positive.

That's how I accomplish my difficult goals... I made it through 6years 2 months of Army Infantry that way, 5 heart breaks that way, and to achieving my Bachelor's of Science in IT, specializing in Cyber Security at 43 years old... You break life into steps and focus on one step at a time until it is completed then the next. You move forward in a positive direction without needing emotions to motivate you.
An ingenious way to look at goal achieving

Bro I lightweight just leveled up because of this I thought something was wrong with me because I didn't react to trauma and really bad situations the way others did because I was worried about the next 20 minutes rather than what could potentially happen. I've been called every name in the book because of it heartless I don't care about anything blah blah blah. But for some reason when everyone around me wants to quit I've never even considered it.

This is how you get through everything that feels like it's too much to accomplish. Small wins, incremental successes, quiting "tomorrow."
Amen brother. I called it pain beyond pain.
it’s so simple yet unbelievably hard for so many…you are powerless over people places and things…but you have the power to decide the people you’re around the places you go and the things you do
I could never imagine what this guy has been through and what he means by dealing with hard situations everyday but he lightweight just helped me understand something about myself part of the reason why I am the way I am is because I've had very long stretches of time longer than 8 months where every last little choice felt like it could potentially be a life or death situation. And at first when I was young it seemed difficult but once I started thinking like this, like what he's talking about getting to breakfast and getting to lunch I adopted that philosophy and then things became easier but I kind of did it naturally I didn't think about it. I have many problems with relationships because I don't react to trauma and terrible situations like other people do. People are wondering about how this could affect their entire lives when I'm just worried about what I'm going to eat for lunch. And that if I make it to lunch that's one step towards the ultimate goal which is survival.
Don’t quit today, it’s emotion. quit tomorrow is the truest shit I have ever heard
Damn that's powerful man I'm going to see how I can apply some of that

“There is nothing that will happen during any one day that you can’t handle.” Delta Operator John “Shrek” McPhee on advice given to him by a Special Forces soldier/friend right before he (John) enlisted and was headed to Ranger Indoc (RIP). That advice helped take John from being a regular ass Joe 6pack welder working a 9-5 job to one of the most legendary Special Operations commandos in American history. It was sound advice and has helped me overcome some horrendous things myself. Take it to heart.
He make me want to get up and do something
Really needed this....Came from east africa to north america....got a goal and only way to achieve it is get through a shitty job in a first world country for two more years....every day I think about home and miss my family, the people, the food, the weather, the sounds sights smells, the beautiful simple life.....and I keep thinking while working....got 24 months to go then im outa here...next week....now 23 months and three weeks left....23 months two weeks left...it is torture...I need to think differently to get through this period. Thank you my handsome friend.
Okay, time to get back my discipline in life
The only Joe Budden interview I managed to watch from beginning to end and still couldn’t get enough. The man was funny, factual, visionary. The military had a guy here
Please have more guests on like him! 🙌🏾 This is that “be great” motivation we need! 👊🏾 Imma go for a run now… I was gonna skip it today, but now suddenly I need to go do it! 😂
I liked this part especially
Quit tomorrow, couldn't have said it better. This is how I got through RASP then into regiment. Now im relaxing as a civi again after 6 years of battling depression and suicide in my service. I live for my 9 buddies who have passed on in the past 2 years. 2 years free of the shackles we are bound by not only in war but peaceful life as well. This makes me want to go out and ruck 30 miles for the hell of it. May give me the jump to say fuck it and go tryout SFAS or RRC. Maybe when the next war pops off I'll come back.
Deep in depression, I have chronic pain and fatigue. I can barely stand for even 15 minutes sometimes because of other health issues. This philosophy will help me get through one day at a time. I want to quit life a lot. I won't do it today. I'll keep pushing, every tiny action is a victory. ✌️
this short changed my life and i want to say one thing to everyone, most people just ignore the whole thing because it consists waking up at 4 and working out. this is -realistically- something the majority wont do. this is what you do, wake up at 5.30. you do not have to work out but wake up at 5.30 and make your bed, brush your teeth and drink your water with your vitamins. you will still have 3 victories in and i promise you waking up early will fix most of the things that are bothering you, wake up, check the mails, do something productive. just do it even if you go to bed at 1 am or 2. get your butt up by 5.30. it is a win. the progress is impeccable.
This man is amazing! This should be something you set an alarm to.
Man!! This is the best motivation I've truly heard in my 52yrs of life and I've accomplished a lot...But this philosophy would've had pushed me to do sooo much more and Better!!
Of all days, just the worst day off my life, I needed to see a video like this at this time.
People who struggle with depression need to hear this
Imagine him and David Goggins on either side of you.. and that overwhelming confidence that comes with that unbreakable and unconditional trust that you have in your friend and brother on your right and the other bro on your left. It will ways be the perfect combination of motivation, discipline and pure manly passion.. which directly correlates to all of our "no quitting" attitudes for sure.

Damn…great interview Joe!! This is what the people need to hear 💯
That is absolutely solid advice for training and life in general.
this is fantastic life advice. this is the way thru depression. this is how you should treat suicidal thoughts, not today, I just have to make it to tomorrow. most people will never kill themselves if they can just make it thru the moment where they believe they should. it's awful hard though if you have a kind of unbearable pain that never ends.
I remember when he first started talking years ago about the mission I hated it but I love this dude.
He is completely correct. This is a mindset of success
Sounds like what they say in the rooms. Not a new thought but selling others ideas as your own has been done forever but at the end of the day anything that helps people.
Thank you brother. That is awesome 🤔🙋🏻♂️
That are some true words, right there. I have had times in my life when I didn't know how I was going to manage everything so, I took on one task at a time, each day, until we got past that hurdle.
Also good mindset for addiction (day at a time) but i like the idea with relapse when someone's craving is to tell yourself "im going to use tomorrow" then tomorrow say it again if you need to
True! A marine once used the phrase, shorten your box." He helps train people, including me, for doing endurance races, such as Ironman. When you start thinking you can't run another kilometer, shorten it to the next pole or sign.
This is almost that same speech from SEAL graduation. Wow they really ingraine that into them. Respect.
Reminds me of my personal experiences in the USMC and New Mexico State Police-two of my most memorable experiences were when someone didn’t die at the hands of a perpetrator because I did not quit the tough times and was able to be there to make a difference in someone’s life; stick it out and make a difference, that’s commitment 👍🏼
Damn, that was some cold advice!
"quit tomorrow"...🔥🔥🔥
Small achievable goals keeps you motivated
Wow! I know you been thru it. Thank you for sharing... and for your service. Reminds me of saying that I always try to remember. if I try harder today, than I did yesterday, my tomorrow will always be better!! Can't even try to imagine what type been thru... sending you love and light! 💜

Chief said the same thing in boot. Add up the victories and win the day. Tomorrow is a New day.
Thats exactly how I got thru the Warrant Officer Academy followed by Flight School. We started with 57 candidates and only graduated with 17 original Candidates. I actually NEVER once thought of Quitting, candidates were dropping like fly’s. I had the very same Philosophy as this team six member only differences I did I didn’t realize at the time that was my philosophy. I didn’t look at the fact it would take me a full year to get through the Academy and through flight school what I did do though is I just took one day at a time one PT test at a time one major serious obstacle at a time I was not going to let them break me
Listen to this message more than once. It works..
Wow that is simply amazing!
"...If you keep quitting tomorrow..." Deep!
This is also how people who are in AA are taught to stay sober. It’s much less daunting to think that you only need to get through a day than a week, year, life, etc.
Wow, great way to build character.
I love a seals mindset. Straight Gs
Love this positivity.

“If you can keep quitting tomorrow, you can do anything in life” I’m quitting my job tomorrow, and doing anything tomorrow. Hopefully this works out.
With you brother. God speed
Perseverance during times of doubt seems impossible at times. Stopping and quitting aren't the same thing. Give every test in life your best effort and never romance the thought of giving up.....
They told us this in basic training and it is whole heartedly true.
Knowing this routine from being suicidal And just living life one hour at a time
Some serious knowledge... 💯. 👏👏👏
I think God 🙏 for these guys for all they do and all ready done much respect.
He’s an inspiration!!
Strong mindset ! commitment & consistency in those 2 words itself mean soo much easy to say Start & Do but sooo hard to maintain and commit too. But yet that's the success to anything you want or need in life
Keep on keeping on. Lifes a garden dig it. In other words, suck it the fuck up and do what you have to do.

So I’ve read more than 100 books since the pandemic started. Some of which I have read 4X. “The Operator” (Rob’s book) is in my top five. What’s crazy is I had my headset on, not an original listener of Joe Budden (but I keep tabs because I am in the entertainment industry), I recognized Rob from his voice while working in another room. It’s the only thing that brought me to your podcast and solidified your legitimacy. I can tell you would be good in my hood (7 Mile W) but that isn’t enough to get attention consistently. **Keep doing work like this Joe, and when we are meeting about work sixty ish days from now, we might just make it into “The Division” and NSPD51 in our meeting. **We need agents like Joe Budden in the aggression unit.** Next time you talk to Rob, ask him about “Ninjas and they came with Lions” trust me, it’s awesome and pretty much explains what’s about to happen to Jim Crow.
If you can quit tomorrow… that hit
Sounds great... These are principals thought in a lot of recovery modalities.
And it you can keep quiting tomorrow, you can do anything in life. Best life hack I've ever heard.
