I graduated in 2008 with a BSc (CGPA of 3.52) Physics from University of Nigeria and 11 years teaching experience. Is it possible to secure a fully funded scholarship to study a Master of Science in Medical Physics? Secondly, are there programs in Canada that allow a married student to come with his/her family? What happens if I did not publish any paper? The only works that I have are the projects that I did in many of the courses that I have taken.

Thanks for this insight. What if the professors didnt request for a proposal? Because I contacted 6 professors after I saw their request on their pages, but there was no place any of them asked for a proposal. so only one of them replied a few hours later, telling me she was sorry because she no longer accepts PhD students because she has them filled up already. The remaining havent replied yet and it's been 5 days now that i wrote to them. secondly, what maximum time frame should a professor reply your mails, because i am getting worried since 5 days now?

If it's the same field of study, that should not be a problem. It's ok to switch from one research area to another, just express your genuine desire to learn.

Course based programs typically do not require supervisors, but please check with your specific school

Hi Osaro, yes it is advisable to attach your unofficial transcripts if you have it, otherwise, a well structured email and attaching a well written CV to that Professor will do as well .

Thanks for sharing this valuable information, right now, I am in the process to prepare all my personal information for a PhD application. I have a question, do you consider that a certain age (around 40-years-old) could be a barrier for admission? Of course, assuming that all the other requirements (publications, appropriate experience, language proficiency, etc.) are moderately fulfilled.

I suggest you mention your undergraduate thesis (research project) and the outcome in that paragraph. That is your research experience and it is valid! Go further to discuss the research or publication he or she has that got you attracted to them and your interest in it. How your interest aligns. Also, dwell on the skills your work experience has exposed you to. The research that got you attracted might be related to your work experience. All you do is to convince him or her that you can be under his/her guidance. Some persons with no publication but with just undergraduate thesis were able to secure a research supervisor. All the best at what you do.

you need to briefly explain what research you have done whether clinical research or internship. The goal is to make the prospective supervisor understand that you have done some research and possess research knowledge

In North America, they're often addressed as Dr ...., you could go with Dear Dr ....

If the admission requirement for the course I want to apply for is ,,let's say cgpa 3.0+ , and mine is less (though a second class lower ), if I studied same course in my first degree do I stand a chance of getting the admission??? The key to getting a supervisor is first to ensure that they are currently accepting students, and then send them a polite email requesting their supervision. Attach your CV and unofficial transcripts if you have it. Your email MUST BE WELL WRITTEN AND STRUCTURED.

As long as you meet the requirements, you have a chance. You can include your current PhD transcripts, and also explain why you are changing your PhD research focus

Yes I am a dentist, who is now into drug discovery research. For MPH, you will need to have a minimum CGPA of 3/4 if you are thinking of schooling in Canada, and also, many schools will also require you to contact and secure a willing supervisor

For PhD, potential supervisors would love to see a publication, but given you have none, you will have to highlight your awards, project, and other things you bring to the table. What else do you have that you can speak to? highlight those in your email.
