How This Couple Rescued A 17th Century Estate | Country House Rescue: Chesters

Chesters is a grade I listed 17th-century country house and estate, located on the banks of the River Teviot in the Scottish Borders. The estate includes 1,500 acres (6.1 km2) and 14 estate cottages, as well as a mile of the River Teviot. John and Ellie Henderson would like to leave their jobs in London and take up permanent residence at Chesters (John's ancestral home), but they are unable to afford to. Can Ruth help the couple make the estate profitable enough to achieve their dream?

Looks like this couple has made a complete go of it. Award winning beer, lots of activity, employs around 30 people. Looks like a job well done.

I found this both touching and enlightening. Somehow the romantic and the practical visions came together with glorious success.

28:40 I actually quite like the set up. It looks cozy. A set up like this would do great for people on vacations.

I always laugh at these people who act like renting out the houses they can't afford is below them. Obviously not that fancy anymore

They have a great money maker. I would absolutely turn that place into a corporate event space is ideal. And fixing up the rooms for overnight accommodations would be even better. One thing about corporate events and accommodations is that corporate people tend to be better behaved (but no always). Any damage would be billed to the company and that solves the problem of "crazies." If the guy doesn't want to risk crazy drunks, why open a microbrewery??? 😂🤣. I wouldn't pay $450 for the Thespian experience. That attic space is worse than a Motel 6, which is saying a lot.

Regardless of the corruption allegations in the family bringing Democracy back to a country is always a good thing. Corruption should always be rooted out and prosecuted.

Have to be honest, the brewery a couple or few years down the road in the closest town in a new microbrew facility that also has good food, a beer venue associated with the microbrew on the estate as a short term lease for events and receptions.

Wonderful couple and property. While watching this video there are numerous views of the front of the house showing the one over one window sash. They seem very out of keeping with the date of the house?

Make sure you keep the garden tended, because the corporation has a free lease, so if we through an event there, we pay for the catering, not the venue. Similar to a royal visit of old!

You plant your own vitis vinifera. English Riesling must not have the same shaped bottles as German, Swiss and French Rieslings, and I think of them more as English table wine or house wine. Formal gardens around the folly or between the folly and the new construction is your responsiblity, but you might see a commission of 10% off a $100 dollar masterwork sold there. If you're not getting a commission, you should let people sell their art at your house. You're supposed to be the one who finances the refreshments, but if you are working with a gallery, you could probably split that expense. Better to buy expensive art in the country where it is remote and you can drive away and enjoy empty roads and serenity.

What's wrong with renting out the home for a majority or half of the year? It gives people housing and you money? Plus the added benefit of being able to keep the property.

Could be the heir and his wife lives in the folly, and his parents live in the new build. I'd still generate money off the folly though, especially if there is a tax incentive to do so.

Love the house, like the owners, but this video is so incomplete as to be virtually useless. What happened to the brewery? One actors' workshop and one half-day corporate retreat are fine--but to project a lucrative yearly income from these two trial runs is ludicrous. What happens when the one, overworked, handyman quits? Is there a Part 2? What happened next? To imply that this couple's pipe dreams came true and they lived happily ever after is dishonest .Maybe it did all work out, but there's no evidence of that in the video.
