I was just talking to somebody about this episode a couple days ago on one of the Star Wars groups I’m in on Facebook. This is still one of my all-time favorite clone wars episodes; not only did we get to see the classic Separatist ass-kicking Yoda from the prequels, but we got to see something that the prequels didn’t really show, which was how well Yoda treated the clones and the respect he gave to every single one of them. All in all, the GAR did use them as disposable slaves (pretty much cannon fodder), and I personally believe that they deserved better, clone or otherwise… but Yoda still made sure to give them all the same respect he would give to fellow Jedi masters. TL;DR : Dave Filoni is a fucking genius

So well done, only thing I would've wanted to see in hindsight is a sort of "set up" for the entire situation in the galaxy at that moment, but they did that in subsequent episodes anyhow, so no real complaints.

This was probably the best use of B1s for comedy. The fact that the commander is just a normal guy makes the others' idiocy seem reasonable.

This episode in my opinion is truly what classic clone wars is. Outnumbered clones. With a Jedi Master against the mass army of droids and of course a sith. This episode has almost all the aspects I love about the clone wars. Funny droids, unique badass clones, classic jedi and some light interesting politics.

I always enjoy Yoda and his antics, but I especially love it when he actually shows his battle prowess. The contrast of a wise old patient and level-headed being needing a cane to walk around just suddenly turning into an absolute juggernaut with hardly anyone able to match him on the field of battle just works so well, even if Yoda never seeks battle for the sake of it and very rarely has need of his full might.

Yoda only gets playful and mischievous when dealing with children, the most playful and mischievous beings in the universe. He spoke that way to Luke when he first met him because he saw Luke as still being a child. Later, once Luke has been trained, he starts talking to him in a more straight forward and mature manner. He gets like that around the Clones because he recognizes them as being 13 to 15 years old despite their adult bodies, and is trying to teach them like he would teach a child.

One of my favorite Yoda scenes from TCW is in this episode. When Ventress is just talking loads of shit and whatnot.. and he just whisk her lightsabers from her hands and goes "Strong you are in the Dark Side of the force.... but not that strong." and then... just tosses them back to her, letting her know just how outclassed she is.

Yeah, I love this episode because it shows Yoda as a Master Jedi, not someone sitting in a council chamber all the time. I also love the fact that he appreciates the clones as individuals, which they all are, plus you get to see Dooku and Ventress. It was a great way to open the series up!

I can understand the differences, OT to prequels. He was in a very different time in his life and a very different environment. When joking with Obi-Wan, he was with the children and I bet he was a little more laid back with them while not engaged in a lesson. But most of the council scenes were discussing very serious matters with potentially galactic implications. I would love to see more of Yoda in future content.

my headcannon has always been that prequel yoda is just his 'im at work, i need to be serious' mindset. and the goofy sense of humor and love of messing with people were always there, he just downplayed them around the council cause they're too used to him and he cant have any fun with them any more.

Ambush is one of my favorite storylines in the show. It took me a long time to finally watch clone wars. Especially after the movie. I didn’t like Ashoka much and didn’t like that Anakin suddenly had this padawan that had never existed before. This story with Yoda made me give the show a shot though. I love all the Yoda focused arcs of the show, they did him right.
