Disney always owned the movie. They just slapped Tim Burton on the title because it didn't fit their branding at the time. But over a decade later, and a new president at Disney, they realized they can market this. So they never took it away from Burton.

Ok so you really need to learn how studios work. Especially during this time if the studios history. Touchstone was the studio that distributed the movie, but its own by disney and its disney money. You have to remember when this movie was released disney was riding a high with their animation features..so why they distributed it through touchstone. Cause they didnt it want it to affect any other film ..they limited their risk just in case it bombed. So hope you learn something today

And seeing that they wont do a sequel without burton shows that they still respect him, even though Dumbo flopped but that wasn't burtons fault..that you can blame on the disney higher ups

Man I never knew that Tim was barely in the making of the film. I thought he directed, and did most of the work. Credits should be given to those who deserve it and put the real work behind it. Sad to know that I only found about it now😔 Great job crew people you guy's are awesome af.

@@Charles12 first of all, it wasn't Tim's decision to put his name in the title. It was Disney's. And just like Disney, Walt Disney died over 50 years ago, yet he still gets credit for everything Disney does.

I love the story from this about how Tim Burton hated the original idea for the ending so much that he kicked a hole in the wall. XD

Disney wanted nothing to do with this movie... until they realized they could merchandise the crap out of it. :P Seriously, though, I'm glad that for season one of "The Holiday Movies That Made Us", even though you only covered two movies, I'm glad this was one of them. Something a little... different, when it comes to holiday movies.

Because Disney is a corporation. The people running Disney today are completely different from when the movie came out. So yes, the people running Disney then didn't care for it, but the people who took over did. How do people not realize this?

Its part of a series on Netflix called the holiday movies that made us..I think this is episode 2

The buildings they sculpted were actually big?? 😳 I thought they were like mini houses that could fit on a table or something but no, they were like 5 to 6 feet tall! Wow.

Every holiday season in Hollywood. Disney re releases the movie at el capitan theater. And they showcase some of the original sets in display downstairs. If you are ever in that area during that time I suggest you go. Its a treat

This is great. I love behind the scenes, especially for a crazy back story like this!

The very first sentence is a flat out lie. "The world's very first feature length stop motion movie" came well before 1993; Just look up "The Adventures of Mark Twain" (1985) or even as far back as 1917 with "El Apostol" (the runtime was 70 minutes, don't know if that qualifies as feature length. If it doesn't, then there is also Prince Bayaya (1950) with a runtime of 87 minutes; surely feature length). Whoever wrote the script of this documentary either didn't do their research, or are trying to sell the idea that The Nightmare Before Christmas was the very first the same way Disney's been trying to convince us that Steamboat Willie was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon when it was actually Plane Crazy (silent version) which was released in a test screening in May 15th, 1928.

I've watched so many of these documentary, interview-type videos on TNBC. I find it so funny how they all talk about this extraordinary movie; they speak like it's just some movie, and they make it sound so easy. like, "oh, yeah. then we started animating and making the music," and it's like oh yeah. but then I go and watch the movie again and am still blown away every time by everything from the music to the animating. beautiful. 🙌

It's both a Halloween and Christmas movie

This has very little coverage on the actual 'making' of the film. This is just how the concept got rolling. But I know there are already other videos out there about the creation and stop motion production; just saying, perhaps this title isn't accurate.

There are times when this series is informative but there are times when I think 🙄 “Oh, Jesus Christ! Be serious, will ya!”

"The first feature-length stop motion film!" MAD MONSTER PARTY: Am I a joke to you? The Internet likes to make the joke "Huh?? Tim Burton didn't direct the movie!" Maybe not in the most literal or conventional sense of the word, but you heard it right here, folks; they were sending HIM the dailies for his approval, it was HIS directing Danny Elfman that gave them the first "script" with which they could finally begin production, HE was the one telling the art director what the movie needed to look like, the character designers were working off of HIS original drawings... It's the same deal with Burton co-directing with Mike Johnson on 'Corpse Bride'; Johnson helped with directing the crew of animators, but all of the vision came from Burton himself.

I'm confused i just watched this movie on disney+

if youre meaning as to why its being shown by disney and netflix, tnbc isnt actually a disney movie. tim originally showed the idea to disney to do and they refused cause it was too creepy for their image, tim then made the movie on his own and after it was released and disney saw its success, they then went to tim and asked for like part/half share of the movie, which is why its not just a disney thing! its not a disney thing, tim just gave them a bit of a share of it which is why they can show it and make goods from it!

It's not actually the first stop-motion feature. A whole bunch of Eastern European films came first.

I'm trying my hardest to watch the horror season. Dear Lord they need to drop the guy doing the voice over and that dumb music wtf??? The background music ruins everything

Loved the content but the constant flicking between interviews combined with stupid sound bites inserted gave me headache!! I found myself having to constantly rewind bits to get what was going on as the information was coming in so fast. I get that it was supposed to fun and comedic but the pace was too much and spoilt what could have been an epic look at Tim Burton's career!! They seem to be trying the British sarcastic funny narration but it falls flat, I prefer the American way much better!!
