// WHY COLD PLUNGE?
The benefits of cold therapy have been practiced for over 1,000 years. More information at www.npr.org/sections/health-s...
// TEMPERATURE
A good temperature for your cold plunge is around 50°F. No need to go much colder. The benefits - like noradrenaline production - begin at 60°F water exposure.
!!! BE SAFE: ALWAYS ENSURE THAT THE FREEZER HAS NO POWER (IS UNPLUGGED) WHEN YOU ARE USING THE COLD PLUNGE - AND REMOVE THE FREEZER DOOR LOCK !!!

    Great videos, getting myself a chest freezer this week and I will be running the same setup. Question regarding the drainage. If the waterlines are running over the sides of the freezer does this drainage system still work(i.e Split return/Input hose)? From my understanding this drainage setup works because of the hole at the bottom. I was thinking of splitting the Output hose coming out of the pump before it passes the ozone generator for drainage. What do you think?

  • @HandsOnMeditation

    @HandsOnMeditation

    If you mean to drain all the water out of the freezer, that won't work. It would only drain the water out of the pump, but there won't be any suction to pull the water up over the sides and out of the freezer. When I was running the hoses over the sides of my freezer, I used a siphon method to drain the water out. You put a hose in the freezer water, then you put the opposite side of the hose at a lower level (I put it in a sump pit). To get the water started, you have to create a little suction. I would hook up a wet vac and begin sucking water out. Once the water gets moving, you can stop sucking and the water will keep moving on it's own (as long as it's flowing to a lower level).

    I think you’ll still have the same problem. The pump will completely empty out right away and there will be no water flowing through it to keep the suction.

    @HandsOnMeditation did you use a wet vac to get the filtration working? I burnt the motor on one of the Intex C1000 pumps already because I turned it on without any water in it. If suction is required to even begin using the pump I’m wondering how to do that

    Great content with so much useful details, thank you! I’m considering to get a laser chiller CW5200, looks like the power is okay go cool the water just the pump comes with it only goes 13L/min, with about 200L in my bath tub I feel is enough to cycle the water in every 15min. If you use a chiller, you could consider something like a large cattle trough instead of a freezer. You probably won't need a very large pump because it's not that much water. I've never worked with a chiller but I have considered it and may do so in a future project.

    i finally finished following your full "recipe" for making the cold plunge. I haven't been able to try it yet because it wasn't getting cold. Now i realize it must be due to the thermostat sensor interfering. I applied JB water weld to the storage clips areas i removed from the inside walls, and while i was at it i put weld over the sensor at the interior. Do you know of methods to disconnect the chest freezer's temperature control thermostat sensor, have any tips or know anyone in my similar position and what they did?

  • @HandsOnMeditation

    Sorry but I have not heard of anyone with this issue. I do see videos online about people replacing thermostat sensors. That may help. Is your freezer getting cold at all? You don't really need it to sense the temp, as long as it turns on. It can take a long time for the water to reach the low temperature depending on how warm the water is when you begin. It takes my freezer about an hour to lower the water temperature by one degree.

  • @HandsOnMeditation

    My cold plunge is indoors so the humidity isn't so high but if you keep it in a humid environment that makes sense. The water temp will also be affected by the air temp when running through the hoses so I don't run my pump continuously. If you are having issues, you may want to insulate your hoses.

  • @HandsOnMeditation

    7 ай бұрын

    It really just depends on how clean your water is. If you are building up a lot of body oils, soap, sweat, etc. in the water, you'll need to run ozone more often. If your water is staying clean, then it's not necessary. I would typically run the ozone after each use for a little while (around 5 minutes) and a couple other short bursts during the day.

    I’m having trouble getting the pump to work. To be fair I’m running the hose over the edge of the bathtub and trying to hold the hoses under and mess with the pump without making a mess. Hoping that it will work once I get it all set up in the plunge and the hoses are zip tied in place. Planning on running the hoses through the lid. I hear you say If you’re running them over the side you’ll have to life the pump. Can you explain the process a little better?

  • @HandsOnMeditation

    @HandsOnMeditation

    Жыл бұрын

    You can get air pockets in the system while filling up the cold plunge and that can create problems for the pump. They will tend to float up to the highest point. If you are running your hoses over the sides of the cold plunge, that's the highest point. There is no easy way to bleed the air out (let it escape) at that point, so you can lift the pump up (with it turned off) a little above the hoses. Let the air pockets float up to your pump. Then unscrew the top of the pump (at the bleed valve) and slowly lower the pump. Water will push the air out. When you see water flowing out of the bleed valve, you can screw it shut and that should take care of your air pockets.

  • @HandsOnMeditation

    Yes, you can leave the pump going. I've made some changes to my setup, if you watch my newer videos. Ideally, you would always keep the pump on to keep the water moving and filtered but you don't want power to the freezer or any other electric devices. I now use a UV Light Clarifier instead of the Ozone Generator and I don't want power running to that while I'm using the Cold Plunge.

    After 4months with the OZ has your filter shown any issues with the Pump. Reason why I ask is because you have the hose coming out of the filter at about 1 1/4, which is a lot of water then condensing the amount of water going through the Venturi injector. I would assume that the pump would have to work harder because of that.

  • @HandsOnMeditation

    @HandsOnMeditation

    11 ай бұрын

    The pump is definitely working harder than if it was connected to an above ground pool, but mine has been running for a couple years and still going strong. I'm sure at some point it will break down but it's a pretty cheaply built plastic pump so I kind of expect it. I'm trying a UV clarifier and really like it. I may end up disconnecting the Ozone Generator and Venturi injector. That also effects the pump. I'll have a video up soon to talk about this.

    At times, I've had three people actively using the cold plunge and I was changing the water about weekly. Other times when it's only being used by one person or only being used after showering, I can go several weeks without changing the water. My Cleaning Routine: 1. Drain it. 2. Give it a quick wipe, if needed. 3. Change the pump filter, if needed. 4. I like to pour a little peroxide in the pump. 5. Fill it back up with clean water. Then maybe a couple time a year, run hot water with a little bleach through the system for total sanitization.

    I plug my ozone generator into a smart plug and only run it for 10 minutes after each use, and then a few more times for 5 minutes. There is no switch. As soon as it gets power it runs, but I don't think there's any reason to run it for long periods of time. Also, you have to run the pump at the same time and the water will start to warm up when the pump is running (because the hoses are on the outside of the cold plunge). So, I recommend only using the ozone generator for short periods of time. You also don't want to build up unsafe levels of ozone. I'm actually experimenting with a UV Light Clarifier and it's working really well. I may use that instead of the ozone.

    I believe it's a 14.8. If you check my first Cold Plunge video on this channel, all the info is listed in the video description.

    What size is your freezer?

    The freezer is 14.8 cu. ft. That's a common size for chest freezers. I'm 6' and it fits me pretty well. I wouldn't want to go any smaller. If you watch the other cold plunge videos on this channel, I have more specific information.

    Why don’t you use a thermometer to control the power to the tub?

    What thermometer do you recommend? I would have to control a power source.

    Good video. Is this in your basement or garage?

    It's in the basement. No room in our garage and the temperatures get too cold where I live. If you watch the other cold plunge videos on this channel, you can see the full room. There is also a sauna.

    Are you also building one? At some point, I'll probably update the design a little and video the complete build as I make a new one.
