    Well if you are more anti establishment than pro (insert party here) Obama was less of an establishment Democrat than John McCain or Mitt Romney was an establishment Republican and Trump was definitely less of an establishment Republican than Hillary or Biden is an establishment Democrat So in short someone who voted for Obama and Trump probably doesn't like either Trump or Obama as much as they hated McCain, Romney, Hillary, and Biden

    Obama 08’ and Trump 16’ had the same platform, Reshoring American Industry, Securing the Southern Border, and staying out of foreign wars. They both ran as relative outsider populists. 8 million Americans were Obama/Trump voters

    Definitely a lot of 20/20 hindsight going on. Things were going good in 1928 and people didn't know the stock market crash was a coming, the incumbent Republicans probably seemed like a good choice if you aren't abusing future knowledge.

    Not to mention Nixon getting blown out by Kennedy in 60, if you aren't abusing future "Nixon is a crook" knowledge he's the incumbent VP of a super popular pres during good times. It's at least as close as historical if you are not abusing the Nixon is a crook knowledge.

    Gonna be honest, Al Smith dodged a bullet by losing. The Great Depression was going to happen no matter what, as the rest of the world was going through. It ruined Hoover's reputation. The reason why it was so bad in the US was because Hoover's and FDR's policies exaggerated the effects. If Al Smith had won the democratic nomination, he probably would've resolved it within his first term and it would have been remembered as a recession.

That being said Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 would probably be an interventionist pick for president, he would've gone over to Europe as SOON as the guns started firing.
