    I didn't know they switched over, I guess like the 500's they are cheaper to make, and lighter. Thanks for watching.

    Polymer of a handgun is plastic. they drop and work fine. This isn't your basic injection molded plastic... I've dropped my 870 on the plastic trigger guard from 5 feet and it's fine.

    Do you know how often you should clean and lubercate the trigger mechanism? I just got a new 870 wingmaster and have heard a lot of conflicting information on how often you should do this.

  • @Stray03

    @Stray03

    +sporedt Depends on what you do with it. Most people will never have to re lube it if new. If you treat it badly (bad weather dusty conditions, keep it in the dirt mud snow, heavy rain etc) then when you get home it should be opened and cleaned/lubricated. I personally have only lubricated it when I took it apart to clean when I bought it second hand. Never bothered to afterwards. It is about common sense, not a general rule. If it feels off or if you have been mistreating the gun do an inspection and lubricate when you put it back together.

    Well done, thank you. I was interested in what if any benefit or con would result from the replacement of the stock hammer spring with a Wolff extra power spring ? Do you have any maintenance or improvement hacks to share ?

    Unfortunately no. I don't get fancy with my firearms usually. Keep them stock, avoids picking up extra issues. Should be plenty of channels dealing with 870 mods though.

    Understand perfectly. I have had an 870 Special Purpose Magnum for many years. I added a Remington made extended 2 shot magazine tube which I found in my parts box. the gun came with a 12ga. open choked (not a screw in) deer barrel with rifle sights so no need to fix those. Recently I decided to do some basic upgrades like a reliable magazine tube follower, better quality more power spring, larger safety button, and do a general trigger clean and tune up. Good luck and good hunting.

    @dennisthornton4384 that is really the only thing I have done to 870s also. The extension and turning them into specific classic versions, like the police version with folding stock.

    Do you have a video to put a trigger group back together. I disassembled mine and I’m stuck. Also do you recommend after market parts to upgrade the trigger group

    Don't think I ever made one. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to fixing the shotguns. If you think you would be better off with aftermarket go for it. You have to shoot the firearm.

    I was going to replace the dog carrier spring after I switched out the safety for a Wilson Combat large safety. In the process the sear spring came off and I was lost. I then mistook the sear spring for the dog carrier spring. Was ready to just give up and bring it to my gunsmith. But my nature is to not give up, so I dug through KZread videos and somehow got the trigger assembly put back together correctly. Wish I had seen this video, it would have made the job easier. But I was very proud of myself nevertheless. I left the original dog carrier spring in. I had asked my gunsmith if it was a good idea and he told me if I'm not having any issues, which I'm not, it could end up causing problems.

    Great detailed video. I have two questions: 1. Do you recommend switching out the stock dog carrier spring for the more heavy duty spring that comes in the police and 1170 models? I have the magpul tactical express. 2. Is it a good idea to pull the trigger to release the tension on the hammer spring when storing the gun? Thanks in advance.

    Not the right person to ask. I keep everything stock on my guns because I don't need them for protection or competition. As such I can't really give you a good opinion. As for storing uncocked, I don't specifically try. I guess if you are storing it for long periods of time it is better for it, but if the springs are designed properly then I don't see it as anything too important to do

    Today my 870 trigger just squished back without firing. I took it home and the trigger group would work/fire out of the gun and would also release the hammer with the trigger group installed in the receiver but with no barrel installed. When I install a barrel, the squishy, non-functional trigger returns (I tried this with two barrels). Any ideas of what's wrong?
