If you can possibly find it on DVD or streaming, the 1974 BBC mini series "Shoulder to Shoulder" is an excellent dramatization of the British Women's suffrage movement. All these years later the forced feeding that was depicted still is seared in my brain.

Let's see since that time period we've lowered the infant mortality rate, there's the invention of electricity, industrial revolution, technological revolution, quality of life and lifespan has increased...the almost complete eradication of smallpox, syphilis, typhus, tb. Cleaner living conditions.. yep fall of western civilization alright
