The moon directly affects the tides which in turn affect fish feeding behaviour. Here's some basic info on moon phases and how you can use that information when planning your fishing trips.

Nice video, interesting theories! They do seem to make sense... Ive always been meaning to put more time into studying tides/moon phases/bite times etc but I feel there is far to many other variables which also have an impact, would be cool to do a month long study fishing every day though just to gather some data

Wouldn't we all like to fish for a month for 'scientific' purposes 😄. But yeah, there are certainly more variables than just moon phases but sometimes it can be the key....

I have kind of worked this out my self, went to my spot and it was a few days before and after a full moon as was getting a lot of bites and caught some nice fish. After the last quarter phase i wasn't getting any bites. So i assume that the best time to go fishing is from first quarter to last quarter in my area.

funny enough i looked carefully on the moon phases along with the tide and found a certain pattern and was able to get some fish but that was only wen the weather was good

Air pressure plays a role as well. So all moon phase and weather patterns have to line up. Having said that I have set plenty of nights watching the full moon go over with no luck. The couple of days before and after seem to work better.

Been learning what I can about this. You touch on barometric pressure in 1 of your responses - This I think would be a subject worthy of another video. Ive heard conflicting theories 1. That in saltwater it has no effect, 2. Low or dropping pressure produces a bite, 3. Rising or high pressure produces a bite. Im leaning toward theory #2.

No no no.. thise tide and moon sun standings do work and very strong indeed.. just go to fish at the entrance of a big lake where the water of high and low tide enter or leave the lake and especially in the early morning or late afternoon.. be readybwith dome life bait.and.feel the heat

Hmmm have quite a few different rods, about 6 are custom. CTS, CD rods do good blanks as do Synit and Calstar (US). I have a Calstar LBG rod 7ft grafghter 30-80lb which is super light and powerful and a CD rods graphcast 8-10kg rod, 9'6" for the rocks. The graphcast are proven off the rocks and used to be very popular when spinning was big in Australia, lots sold over there. Fuji guides & reel seat. I also own a Conoflex Barracuda for spinning metal lures, rare now because the company has folded but it's specially made for lure fishing. 11ft 2 piece. I have 3 Synit's - 2 stickbait rods and 1 jigging, definitely some of my favourites....super strong.

I have heard it has a similar effect, where there are strong currents the energy expended will still be on the high side so the food demands will also be high and so will the feeding...

Yeah it seems to be a common pattern with fish feeding behaviour, not sure exactly what the 'scientific' reason is for it sorry. Perhaps because the tide will enter a period of no current and the fish find feeding better when the current is flowing.

Moon phases used to be the thing 20 years ago when the planet wasn’t angry at us! These days because the weathers so unpredictable and shit, the right time for fishing is when it’s not blowing a Gail or a storm! I have been trying to fish the new moon or full moon for 2 months and the weathers let me down!

There’s a theory that full and new moons can also influence the weather- more likely to be unsettled.

Bad weather = good fishing, good weather = slow fishing. Get out there and get wet, oh… and also your lines. If it’s windy, find spots where the wind is behind you. If it’s pouring… find a bridge. My best fishing has always been on change of weather or bad weather. I don’t go out on the boat though, but I’ll do land base

The tides are controlled mostly by the moon phases (full moon, new moon etc). Here is a link to the science (National Geographic) education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/cause-effect-tides/ 'Forces that contribute to tides are called tidal constituents. The Earth’s rotation is a tidal constituent. The major tidal constituent is the moon’s gravitational pull on the Earth. '

No, before low tide. It seems that a whole outgoing tide somehow stimulates the bite more than a whole incoming tide.....
