How the Middle East got its borders, & why the lines in the sand have become blood-soaked
ThePrintExplorer
Even though the Middle East’s border mark some of the world’s bloodiest battlefields, most of the long, straight lines running through the sand didn’t exist even a hundred years ago. ThePrint Contributing Editor @praveenswami explains in #ThePrintExplorer how the Middle East’s nations were created not by shared religion or ethnicity, but colonial ambition and oil.

Wonderful concept. Praveen s talent as a story teller was evident in his national security videos. This deep dive in history is a welcome step. Looking forward to many more such episodes .
Very informative. Great work Praveen ji
Thank you for the new series. Love the idea.
Praveen Sir is like a prof who takes one of the best lectures of the week. Last year I read his book on Kashmir a must read. Also at the back of your mind you can hear him speaking when you read his book.
Nice to see Praveen ji in this long format. Hope more episodes will follow.

23 minutes of pure masterclass…wow!!
What a episode ! Loved it ! Please continue this initiative.
Beautifully narrated.. very informative 👍
Praveen's writings and videos have inspired me to restart my reading habit. Waiting for more informative episodes.
Excellent video, Praveen. You've packed a lot of complexity into 23 minutes. Perhaps the Lawrence of Arabia story of British double-cross of Sharief Hussain in favor of Ibn Saud and the installation of Hussein's sons as monarchs of newly created kingdoms of Trans Jordan and Iraq would have also connected with no-history buffs. As well, Churchill's role, along with Percy Cox. Great work!
A good episode. Basically boundaries all over the world were drawn arbitrarily by Britain, the major colonial power. This has kept the world busy for the better part of a century.
Well compiled information and narration!
Fully essentialised and quite clearly and interestingly presented. It was quite enlightening. Thank you Praveen Swamy! 🎉
Great work very insightful 😊

Thank you. Requesting to Please make a video to educate ALL INDIANs on how China is circling India - using kyaukpyu myanmar, Bhutan land encroachment, aksai chin in kashmir, Maldives, Pakistan. Many Indians are NOT AWARE because security concerns are generally handled silently.
Talent for Astrology 😧👌👌
Very informative video. Praveen please speak faster.
Arey Dikra - not just Middle East but also Indian Subcontinent ‼️
This was very good. Maybe a dive into each nation could be interesting. Specially Israel after the first Zionist Congress of 1897, after which Jewish people started returning to the area, and how Balfour declaration and Sykes p accords impacted it.. to how Israel was established after WW2. Another interesting one would be how the House of Saud took over Saudi Arabia, after all Britain had offered it to Hussains the family running Jordan now. The revolt that the British encouraged the Hussains to undertake also has links to trench warfare of ww1 - as British and French wanted to attach Germany from east. Will be great to get your perspective on that as well. This is a great series in the making 😀😀😀
👌👍

Sir, could u plz refer some books on ME
Very tough English
Middle east got Petro dollars but not peace. Most warring countries are in middle east.
No future actually of the region, maybe a great pan national empire like the one controlled by the Turks will stabilize it. To many ethnicities, too many civilizational roots and the harsh environment is the problem - making the people harsh. Turks are not native to the region, foreigners from Northern China. Persians are also late commers. The Egyptians are a different people, rest are Semitic people of violent history.
