You go to history in Africa you be hard pressed to find it unless we talking one offs and most probably will be taken out of context. I still wouldn’t say based on everything I read it was common and was for thousands of years. Think about it the Egyptians documented everything and to only have a handful examples is not the same as if you go to Rome. Still giving me one offs here there is not the same as a group people were everyone was basically bisexual.

Around 53 minute mark you mention people's problems with transness stem from their insecurity about their gender. Which is partially true but I think we cannot ignore that psychologicaly people are inherently afraid of change and the unknown. Many view trans as a disruption of their old way of being and life. For decades one way of life is all that they knew. And now people are telling them they are wrong. Thus people are more averse to engaging in something unfamiliar or even trying to learn about it if it disrupts their world view. (I've been listening to alot of psychology podcasts )

"The idea of the trans imagination is so expansive, we literally create ourselves out of nothing..out of our minds" omg...crying again just by reading that quote!! Im sure a woman of my time. Feminist at 14, feminine at times. I strongly support ideas that moves us towards liberality, treats us just and promotes of equality...for aaaall, yes both animals and men. Looking back...you might think the guys in the exercise video of aerobics back in the days looked super gay. U are probably right. We're soooo gay. I love to streatch beyond my perception of gender (since its a very unhealthy fixation) to self exploration, to unfold, discover versions of myself. Go! There’s something just... Powerful and poetic about a black trans person. I think there’s a level of richness and complexity that a person is sort of forced to cultivate while sorting through the nuance of identity and the implications of how those identities are engaged with and perceived. There’s so much projection that people do, so much forcing of things, and I’ve experienced a version of that as a black cis woman, but I think there’s an added layer of it when someone is trans or gender non conforming or nonbinary.

great interview as usual! the part about the sports drama has me thinking its almost a mute point. like its connected to affirming trans kids in the first place. like if we did that, i'm sure quite a few of these kids would have puberty blockers and maybe hormone therapy so there wouldnt be this hormone paranoia! it reminds me of how Kat talks about how just her existing brings bad suitors who went all up into her space of their own volition but will act like they've been tricked by the devil themself if they found out they were uninhibitedly, unabashedly attracted to a trans woman. like they set up these traps for trans ppl to always be "wrong" and get indignant when trans ppl "fall" into them. set them up to fail by their standards and be mad they are failures in their eyes. and then i also get that it shouldnt even matter! the estrogen or testosterone level of an athlete just shouldnt even matter! this reminds me of how i missed the point years ago when a country in europe decided to expand their gender binary on state documents. i said a useless comment about just getting rid of the binary altogether, which, right or wrong, just did not belong in this context. i was coming more from these budding thoughts of de-gendering personalities and characteristics but in this specific context comes completely wrong. i had the 'aha' moment for this when juxtaposing the "color blind" bullshit for race issues. i was doing one of those useless and frankly harmful moments. a trans person had come at me no holds barred back then, and even though i was being "understanding" and not wanting to invalidate them, i know i was bitter- i was salty! lol even after the 'aha' moment. nowadays that dig doesnt get to me just because it really hit me that i dont have any skin in the game like trans ppl. like im about ready to yell at anyone about disability at this point and no one can tell me im being in the wrong lol wont compute x3

My interpretation of this is how even though gender is a complex thing that exists outside of our concept of what race is (Which is a cultural and social construct), in practice, in peoples lives you can’t really separate gender expression and identity from these cultural concepts and the complex interconnected ness of these intersecting factors. Sure, everyone is just human, race isn’t a scientific reality, but it’s real in its implications and it’s power to affect our minds and behaviors and ways of engaging with different people. Race factors in when talking about gender, because the reality is our concept and understanding of what race is has an effect on how we perceive others, ourselves, and what we “should” or “shouldn’t” be. A lot of the struggles that people face aren’t based on inherent facts about who they are as human, a lot of it comes from the ways that our understanding of these different constructs affect our behavior. As a black woman, my concept of my gender has been colored by the social and cultural effects of what that means. And the constraints that are placed on me by others are not the same as those that are placed on white women. The concepts of masculinity and femininity are expected to be different for me than for a white woman. The concept of black femininity is different from white femininity in how people often perceive them. There are a lot of nuanced differences.

There's a great thread of tweets that bring a really clear perspective about trans women in sports. I agree with Fanti about othering the way we are othered: www.indy100.com/article/trans-athletes-lgbt-twitter-thread-brynn-tannehill-8808621

I loved this! I just want to add though, if non-binary people were only people in the lavenders, there would only be 1 color on the non-binary flag, a lot of us have genders that do not have anything to do with ideas of maleness/masculinity or femaleness/femininity, or that include more than just those ideas! Okay love you bye!

I don’t really understand why trans men/women can have their own space like non binary people. As they don’t forget the binary, why not create your own space. I’m aware many pre colonial cultures had multi genders so why couldn’t we do that instead? Because this rhetoric is gender being a social contrast and I feel like a a woman/ man just doesn’t sound like a valid basis to identify as a particular gender

Around the 15-18 min mark the guest really Side stepped and didn’t answer the question about the “emasculation of the black man” and started going in on the usual trans talking points. Nobody seems to be able to answer that question clearly for me

Billy Porter has busted his butt for decades in the industry. He didn't get nominated for being LGBTQ+. He was nominated because he has studied is butt off.

Wait, I sort of thought that the point was not that he didn’t deserve it or that he got it because he is so and so, but that the rest of the cast was not acknowledged, none of them and while Porter is wonderful and great, it kind of feels that he is accepted more than others, or rather others are even harder to accept than him, so let’s just ignore them

totalpefectionisto is it privilege though if you create it yourself? I mean if he was a white male/female, I wouldn’t even argue, but he is POC and gay, how is that a privilege? I don’t know, I am honestly asking. I mean to some extend each of us has some sort of privilege - either money, or supportive parents, or just two parents, etc... to me it feels that it’s all valid, sure, but those (except for money) aren’t really societal privileges, unless, of course a person loves somewhere where living in a single parent household is a shame in itself (those exist btw)

@@kseniyarosina2357 Privilege exists for everyone, including Black gay men occupying trans spaces. Marginalized communities have hierarchies that tend to reproduce existing bias. He is a cisgender man that has been afforded roles that cisgender men are afforded and allowed him to have the career he has. The trans women on the show were not afforded the same luxury. Despite being the center on Pose, Billy is the one receives the most press coverage and attention. And let's be honest, many voters prob did not vote for them bc they don't think MJ, Indya, and others belong in the actress category.
