I played college baseball in Louisiana and we had 4 Canadians on the team. I roomed with 2 of them. They were the loudest, laid back, people I have ever met and I couldn't have asked for better roommates. That was 10 years ago and they still come down to visit me. We go to New Orleans and hang out and have a great time. Americans and Canadians might have stereotypes of each other, but when they get a chance to get to know one another, it is always positive. Canada is Americas brother, and it always will be that way.

Props to the Americans who have to put up with us Canadians /u\" I'm honestly apologetic, and I wish that the reporter asked "What's your honest opinion on Americans?" Then "What are the American stereotypes?". My honest opinion on Americans is that I admire how confident they are and take crap from no one. They aren't afraid to speak their mind and I think that they speak with honesty, also meaning that their straightforward. I also find them quite brave and lively, maybe a bit to lively for my taste but I still find it cool. As a teen, I admit the american stereotypes are a bit funny aswell as how memes portray them, at the same time I'm aware that the stereotypes don't apply to a majority of Americans.

@Kevin K That is understandable. I have to admit, my opinion has shifted a little as time went by, with the news and sour relations as I became more aware of what's happening politically and around the world. A majority of us still love the US, our two countries are siblings, we bicker and sneer at eachother, but we are still family. We want the best for you guys, but like any other, we also think of ourselves first. The main reason for the bitterness against the US is mainly just Trump and his supporters (along with some poltical matters), and how far behind the US is when it comes to democracy. The relation has soured and Canadians have become more wary and distrusting, especially under current circumstances. It's a shame, but it happens and with reason. In the meantime we and the world are praying for you, even when we laugh at your weird ways and how you've become "the joke of the world", we still feel pity for you all. You guys deserve what we have to.

As a Canadian, I just want to let the wonderful people of the United States know, that we are grateful to have you as our next door neighbours. There are just plenty of tv shows, movies, and other media out there that perpetuate the "stereotypes of Americans" that Canadians are exposed to on a regular basis. At the end of the day, I've met so many Americans that are kind, well-mannered, polite, down to earth, intelligent, with an amazing sense of humor. Please do not let the opinions from these few Canadians represent what we all think of you and your country. We share the longest undefended border in the entire world, it's a testament to how strong our countries' relationship is to one another. God bless. :)

It’s funny that that group of 3 guys are acting just like the stereotype they are describing Americans as! Being from the southern US, I never knew there was any animosity between Canada and the US. I only realized it after going to an international school overseas. For the most part, I never noticed any hatred between the western Canadians and us. It mainly seemed that the French Canadians and the folks from the Maritime provinces had negative feelings. Overall, I really liked the Canadian kids and still keep in touch with a couple of them. We have much more in common than we have differences.

The interviewer asked for the STEREOTYPES, they answered. Yeah, the loud mouth teen interviewees seemed to not make the difference, but that lady was the most truthful with nuance between stereotypes and what she really believed (speaking as someone from Montreal, who would have answered, more or less, like that lady). .. No hate for Americans from me, but if you ask for an honest opinion, I would give it to you, no sugar coating. ; )

The Eastern Canadians kept their Europeaness. Quebec is very French and the maritime provinces may be very Scottish. They never went west. Sort of like New Yorkers. Came across the Atlantic and stayed in their own ethnic neighborhoods. Quebec is basically a large French speaking neighborhood. Nova Scotia is like Scotland. They never experienced their own country. Just like Irish in Boston. They go back to Ireland often and never went west. Even Irish immigrants call themselves Irish-American after 150 years. The hyphen become a dagger to slay us.

Don't worry, I suspect that a lot of people commenting in the video might never have even been to US long enough/if at all or met many Americans to have such strong oppinions on them that DIDN'T come from TV stereotypes. I'm Candadian but live in US now and this is my opinion only but I can tell you that some Canadians might have a love-hate relationship to the US: On one hand, they(we) consume/like a lot of American culture but on the other hand resent Americans for generally caring/knowing so little about Canada. En plus, I find Québécois to be cool but also more judgy. But I think that's an Anglo/Francophone thing more than anything else.

I live in northwestern Pennsylvania. I find it both funny and ironic that Canadians in general have a disdain for our country and for Americans, and always look down on us. Yet that doesn't stop 1.3 MILLION of them from coming to our state every year to take advantage of shopping for tax-free clothing. And then they stay here for the whole weekend to get out of paying duty when they go back across the border to Canada with whatever they buy. 😂 Personally, I think that luxury should only be available to Pennsylvania residents. If you live in Canada, or even in Ohio and New York, you should have to pay the 6% sales tax here.

As a Canadian I am qualified to answer this. Lol. Basically, Canada has an America complex. Much like a little brother forms a complex about his older brother. When we travel abroad, people assume we're American, some even think Canada is a part of America. We grow up with the image of American media, and if you hear about us in American media, it's almost universally negative. I remember when I was young, during the Afghan War, I was watching an American show, a Fox show in which the host ridiculed the Canadian Forces for needing to take an operational break before redeploying the next rotation of troops. All I could think of was that those were our brave soldiers out there fighting and dying in an American war, sent there to help out our closest allies and yet these people would mock them. Of course that's not how the average American thinks. I doubt Americans know much about the Canadian role in Afghanistan, let alone care much about it. lol. But that's just sort of the general idea. Whenever Canada is mentioned in US media, it's mostly ridicule. Of course Americans wouldn't notice but to Canadians that stands out. Either way I think the average Canadian is well aware of the fact that we are immensely lucky to have such a dedicated ally. In the end, our countries are, as JFK once said, the two closest nations on Earth. Both are fantastic countries, and both have much to be proud of :) But neither side can take this shit too personally. The only reason we can be so harsh on each other is because nobody would think that Canada as a whole hates America or the other way around. We're comfortable jabbing at each other, or so I think. Sorry for the novel, it's just an interesting subject.

No, haha not really. Caring about our brother America isn't that bad. Especially seeing as we're one of the strongest bonds any country has. Stereotypes tend to come from America more than Canada. With shows like the simpsons, or family guy. When americans say the things they hate about their country. That's where the stereotypes come from.

  • @bozo8603

***** Well I respect your opinion but some of the facts are absolutely false. The Canadian Forces are some of the best-trained soldiers in the world, they regularly place top three in the Sandhurst competition despite America fielding many, many, many more teams. The Canadians have won first place in 6 of the last 12 years, relying on only one team from the Royal Military College of Canada, so the idea of inadequately-trained soldiers is flatly incorrect, as is the healthcare. Look up the WHO, or World Health Organization's rankings of the world's healthcare systems. Canada is 30th, US is 37th, similar, but slightly better up north. Probably because when we get cancer, our family doesn't have to sell a house to pay for the treatment. And as for your assertions that we're not a world player, we're in the G8, NATO, and other massive alliances, so once again, you're wrong. Sorry to debunk your rude opinions, but your comment was a sad combo of ignorant and arrogant. Look this shit up, man. You need to learn about shit before you blast your country's allies. Canadians have fought and died in US wars over the years, show them a little respect.

BXLLY JXCK The Queen is purely a ceremonial position. We pay no taxes to the Crown for over 125 years. The country is operated under a constitution and bill of rights and an elected government. The Queen has no power over Canada what so ever. Te Us makes a much bigger deal of the Monarchy then we do. The monarchy shows up in your media and magazines like 'People' then it ever does here. One of the 10 provinces is French speaking with a few small french communities scattered across the country. Quebec has it's own culture and is nowhere near the culture of France. Even the common spoken french is very different then what is referred to as 'Parisian French'. The English Canada's culture bares no resemblance to English culture at all. When we travel in Europe we routinely have to correct Europeans that we are not Americans. Our military is more similar to the US including the weapons. Minor difference are like you say lieutenant (that is french by the way) we say 'left tenant'. We have had universal healthcare and gun control long before many of the European countries. Although we have gun control do not think there is any shortage of guns in the population's hands, we have plenty and retail gun sales can be achieved in any sporting goods stores. The only thing that is heavily restricted is hand guns as they are designed for only one purpose, that is to kill people. Whatever you know of us is wrong or 100 years out of date.

BXLLY JXCK Acceptance is neither here nor there as far as how european you think we are. Europeans are indifferent to us to like us, they despise Americans. The Queen is merely a ceremonial position and she has not visited in over 20 years. She is on our printed money as a representative of history just as you print your presidents on your money as a representative of the USA's history. The Queen has no more influence on the county of today as Polk, Taft, or Cleveland have no more influence on the USA of today. We do not give them a title, they inherit their titles and is a matter of British protocol and history, titles are decided by British heritage and the traditions of European family blood lines and European monarchy protocols. Canada and the other commonwealth countries have no more input to it then the USA would have.

My fellow Americans stop getting so defensive of our country. There will be people who mock other countries based on stereotypes or truths, but we are allies with Canada and for good reason. Our influence is globally the strongest and there will be those who find it not welcoming. Just deal with the mockery, and ignore it.

Comments such as those I have read here today are consistent with thought-pattern of someone who carries a massive inferiority complex. Said comments are simply the person's attempts to offset their mental ineptitude and lack of self-esteem.

It's nothing short of amazing how the country that claims to be one of the most tolerant people, their stereotyping of America is disgusting. I appreciate this video as its a quick reference for when Canadians try to pretend that this is not how we think, speak and act when our guard is down. Can you do another video on how Canadians view Conservatives and "Newfies" next? Would be great to drive the extra nails in the coffin.

Theodore Please. Our Constitution is not in trouble. The Second Amendment has been so variously and incorrectly interpreted that it is now impossible to have a discussion about that amendment, because everyone has a different interpretation of what it means. I personally feel that the framers were speaking of a militia, which was a small, informal group of people organized to protect the rights and freedoms of people in a relatively small area. 'The militia' is now our Armed Forces and individuals and groups of individuals do not need or have the right to weapons of war. Single-action handguns and hunting rifles, yes. More powerful weapons? No. Even if you suffer a home invasion, and the intruder has an assault weapon, unfortunately, statistics show that the intruder is going to kill the family if an assault weapon is produced by a family member. Chances go way up if any kind of weapon is produced. Assault weapons are only ever used by people who want to kill large numbers of people quickly. Those who enjoy firing these weapons for fun could have access to one within the confines of a shooting range, where the gun would be kept under lock and key and patrons would be allowed to fire it when they came to the range.

"Nice" Canadians coming down to the USA and acting like complete idiots. Rude, loud and aggressive - just like was stated in the video (about Americans). We see the young punks barreling down I-5 in California with Alberta plates driving 90+ mph while tailgating and flipping off other drivers. They cross the border and evidently think that's the way Americans are. Or a trip to Vancouver reveals young toughs walking around all night downtown swearing and yelling across the streets at each other. And the drivers there speeding like maniacs while running red lights. Inside every Canadian is an Ugly American trying to get out.

Cal Crappie hey, that's not true just the way the things the people in the video are saying aren't true. I've been to a few states and didn't have any experiences described in the video. They are stereotypes, that doesn't mean that all people on either side have to buy in and treat each other that way.

  • @calcrappie8507

    @calcrappie8507

Rene, it's not "all" people at all. Most Canadians and Americans are quite nice. We are probably 99.9 % similar. You go to other countries and you can observe actions (even with total language barriers) that are very similar as well. Loud people, shy people, phony people etc. These Canadians in the video act just like Americans would act trying to describe "American Stereotypes". You would hear the same exact things. Is there some truth to stereotypes. Yes...but the difference is Americans carry the stereotype "baggage" wherever they go. It is well known worldwide because of the huge cultural reach. In some weird way we probably try to follow the stereotype even though most of us are not that way. Hey they want LOUD, well lets not disappoint them! Canadians go overseas and people in the other countries expect NICE so you better deliver the goods and smile a lot doing it.

That's hilarious, I agree that the U.S. has to much fast food and overweight people, but, Canada is EXACTLY THE SAME. I like how that lady thinks Americans consider themselves the center of the world, the truth is, America is very much the center of the world at this time in history. It's just a matter of fact that the U.S. currently has the most powerful military in the world and economically the U.S. is the largest economy and world standard for currency. ALL nations want to have an economic relationship with the U.S.!!! Canada really should be HUGE fans of America, Canadians can enjoy great national security and major economic advantages because of their relationship to the U.S.. Those Canadians that have this bad attitude towards the U.S. should really take a minute to see how much better they get to live because of them!!!!!

In my interactions with Canadians online, there are two main themes that come to mind. Canadians love American football and know all there is about American politics. I got to wondering why that is, so I checked out Canadian Football and Canadian politics. They're both completely incomprehensible. I think that explains my first two observations.
