Jacque Vaughn has really transformed the team from the hell hole that nash had them in, when u watch games with nash at the helm, there were really no principals, just a bunch of different things from drop coverage to switching just very confusing, but now Jacque has them playing a system. wish he could’ve been the coach since training camp, they would have a good chance of being number one in the league

Joe tsai wanted a basketball reason to get rid of Nash rather than seeming like he listens to KD. When they wen to 2-6, that was all Joe needed as he feared the pushback of “caving to Durant’s wishes” per se. He is an atrocious owner

Like Jack Vaughn said keep it simple... for a team like the Nets, this is a perfect defensive scheme for them.
Whats makes them able to switch is their length and agility. Ben, KD, and Clax are all long defenders.

Reason why Golden State added KD because in previous years that switching defense only Curry was able to cook 1 on 1…With KD they had mismatches all over and killed all switching defense including that 7 game series with Houston.
@chiggsytube

Underrated comment. When Livingston retired only Steph could reliably generate a bucket out of nothing. Sure they ran through the regular season no problem, but unfortunately, Steph is the Warrior most likely to get injured. Back then he was also the most likely to throw the ball away. KD gave then another reliable scorer off the bounce, ( and much more.)

@@chiggsytube facts…So it made teams have to decide to get killed 1 on 1 by KD or get killed by all the ball movement.
Awesome breakdown. I did notice it in all their games. It's the trust though that makes this team great right now. Everyone is held accountable.
Good freaking breakdown I love it man 💯
This is a really great breakdown. Would love to see them try and grab an above average POA defender like an Alex Caruso or Delon Wright. At times they get burned by smaller quicker guards (Darius Garland for example in their game versus Cleveland) and that easy penetration into the paint can lead to kickouts to the perimeter to open shooters or touch fouls by the defense since everyone collapses into the paint. What I like about Wright and Caruso specifically is that they’re both bigger guards enabling them to guard bigger wing players, making them perfect in the Nets’ switching scheme.

This isn’t new they’ve been doing switch defense in the KD/Kyrie era, the difference this season compared to last year they’re not starting 3 guard lineup where teams would just shoot over their small guards.

Yeah I’ve been saying that too. It lowky worked the first year because they had guys like Jeff green, blake, and landry shamet but they still weren’t the best because that roster wasn’t the tallest. This year they have length. That’s why it works.
Interesting to see how teams start to make adjustments on offense to combat this defensive philosophy.

Can’t wtf u gonna do ? They basically running Kyrie away from your primary players 😂 that’s the only person on the court they worrrid about getting picked on this shit is genius
What’s amazing is how simple this is. It’s weird that most coaches can’t teach this. Plus most of defense is about being a little smart and communicating. It’s bugs me at time how bad some of these teams are at communicating on the floor.
I’ve been a fan of the Nets for 10 years (ever since the move to Brooklyn) and this is the most fun I’ve had watching them play And it’s hugely due to their defense this season
Well broken down bro. We fans always be talking trash about teams when they lost but not having any knowledge about the game and the strategies that goes on in the game.
Vaughn is coach of the year and it’s not close.
What a beautiful game. 5:24 has been a weakness. Nash is an awesome player but too many times Kyrie (given his size) would be guarding much larger players.
Nik is the centerpiece, a total disrupter on d and who has fantastic hands. He rarely fumbles passes, gets rid of the ball quickly and runs like a deer. His style and skills remind me, a little faintly, of the surreal Bill Russell. Remember Russell was 22 when he entered, Nik is still 23.
Now I see why teams like Golden State Boston and now Nets are successful. If you play switch defense on a team with great 3pt shooters they will make you pay
@chiggsytube

Think it's the other way around. You switch on those teams to negate their screens so they can't get a clean look at the rim.
Great video. Dwight Howard length would certainly help them in the offensive respond department. You can mix up defensive styles depending on match ups.
They have been using the switch defense since KD started playing in '21, they're probably better because they have better defensive players.
Thank you for spreading knowledge on this beautiful game
JV is a smart coach, simplfying the defence and getting everyone to buy in is not easy, especially in the middle of a season!

I’ve been seeing Nets videos where people are mentioning their switch defense. This has been implemented under the Nash regime. Was nowhere near as successful but it started with him, it didn’t help that it was Harden and a bunch of small guards most of the time. There’s a lot of size this time. The Nets starting 5 has size and some of the quickest feet at their positions, it helps to have Ben Simmons at the front of the defensive attack as he makes it hard for the ball handler to even make it across mid court. It’s great when role players become super stars in their roles, JV has been the voice this locker room needed. Great breakdown for sure, I will subscribe.

@@popcornblast5348 yep. Not to mention we had a few older guys in the team that forced us to change up the schemes eg. LaMarcus Aldridge, Paul Millsap, Blake Griffin. Nash have good assistant coaches at that harden time (Ime Udoka, Mike D'Antoni, Vaughn). I don't think that is his idea. The offense definitely came from Mike D'Antoni and Ime Udoka knows how its work so he knows how to counter that in boston's series. Nash doesn't know what to do at that time.
Best clinic on defense I've ever seen on KZread. Thanks for your impeccable homework and analysis. Hope my Denver Nuggets watch this vid. If they can implement something similar to what Brooklyn's D is doing, Denver might have a chance at a Chip.
This is championship defense at its finest I love ❤️ it we finally look like a championship team if we can add another big-man or another wing defender it’s litt!

Don't know much about basketball but this is interesting never heard of switching defense...kinda complicated. Nice breakdowns about not only the play buy why and because of the strengthen or weakness of another player- so the Nets also have to know who they are playing against.

and other nets fans want to add a big man. lol! that will mess up the system.
I personally thought switching was the Nets Downfall but i guess we ll see
Its call coaching, give Coach Vaughn the respect he's due
Coach of the year
Some sort of dibble hand off offensive may be able beat defensive switching but I won’t say anything else because I’m a New Yorker and I root for my home teams by default lol.... Let’s Go Knicks and Nets. 🏀
when i see systems like this implemented early-mid season, i always wonder how that couch will counter the eventual counter. Because teams are gonna adjust by playoffs. So then how does a coach account for that?
every team knows how fast their team is . and most teams are faster than the Nets
The way that the Nets switch off on set screens up top and back picks has gotten them these wins...And also weak side help has been on point...Nic Claxton and Ben Simmons are playing great at their position and the way KD is guarding one on one is looking like that trio might cause a lot of problems in the East... Rebounding has been better and the way they are boxing out more is being the big difference on why the rebounding margin isn't as bad as it was early on...Great breakdown on the Nets defense...I know a lot of Nets haters are hoping for a drop off on this team
all that IQ on the floor translating into good defensive recognition finally
If the team is committed to the 3pt, then the weakest link has to take it. A simple response to the current obsession with analytics.
Yuta working his way to 15 a year 😂
If they added another big that's not as fast on his feet like Clax, Ben or KD... It would mess up the hole switching defense cause he would be late to respond and the other team would drive to the rim and shoot a pull up jumper closer to the basket, Or even drive right through the defense and dish it out to the open man on the 3point line...
The iq of the players doing this switch defensive scheme is impressive
Gotta attack that perimeter or low post mismatch quick when you have it. And catch Kyrie sleeping in that weakest link switch by back/down/flare screening him or player movement. And gotta make it hard on Kyrie and kd when they play with claxton and Simmons on the court at the same time. Try your hardest to make kd and Kyrie feel like they're playing 2 on 5.
in that jalen johnson clip it annoys me how guys don’t use that window to sneak cut behind the defense. the short roll would the. touch pass or lob it in with kyrie scrambling as a much smaller defender. draymond and iggy used to destroy teams with that rather then just sit in the corner.
I wonder how Steve Nash feels when he sees the Nets now 😂

Finally nets ,they already have a defense.
That's 2020 Lakers defense when they go small ball

Switch everything and go for no steals or anything keep them in front of you
The Nets are Fools' Gold. At any point and definitely in the playoffs Hack-a-Claxton or Hack-a-Ben will become a thing. This will frustrate KD/Kyrie who will stand there helpless on offense while watching Ben/Clax brick FTs (Ben Simmons hasn't made a FT in over a month). Claxton/Ben will be forced to the bench which will compromise their D. For some reason, unbeknownst to me, Nate McMillan and JB Bickerstaff recently just let Simmons/Claxton play without fouling them. Letting highly efficient offensive players like Kyrie/KD cook, or Watanabe, Curry, Harris, Mills, Warren shoot is mind-numbingly dumb. Those two close losses are on the Head Coaches in my opinion. The Nets will continue to WIN, if they are allowed to play Claxton/Simmons sizeable minutes without them shooting FTs when on the floor
5:16 so basically that copying the warriors defense
