I wouldn't go into this pool even after it's been cleaned.

I remember the worst pool me and my father have cleaned together was this pool abandoned for about 30 years. Not only did it develop algae like this pool, it had turtles, snakes, frogs, etc all living inside of it

I have gone from watching rugs getting cleaned to watching dog and cat ears getting cleaned to watching this. Not that I'm complaing though 🤷‍♂️ this is super satisfying

We just did a job very much like this. There were two full-size terraced pools,one with a waterfall flowing into the second one. They had been used as frog ponds for about 13 years until a few weeks ago when the owners decided they wanted to convert them back into swimming pools. We didn't know what we were doing at all but I'm surprised to see we pretty much did it the same way you guys did. Nice work.

@@goblinpotato I do have a picture of one of my co-workers wading in the deep end with his tall wading boots on but I don't know how to upload it here. The problem with that guy is he is an amature Frog and Toad expert so he was distracted all day by trying to catch frogs in different stages of the metamorphosis from tadpole to frog. There were millions of frogs hopping all around.

Yup. That last one, about keeping water on the pool. People tend to forget that you need water on the pool to protect it from harsh weather. The bottom usually covered with ceramic tiles, and they can go scalding hot or ice cold depending on the weather. Water on the other hand usually don't go below -4°C in winter, and even in the middle of summer it will never go too high because of its heat capacity, therefore preventing cracks on the bottom of the pool from extreme heat or bitting cold.

@@jessicaaugustine4333 because it's an expensive process that doesn't worth it. Cleaning the pool is standard, even if it is very dirty it is possible to bring the water to a healthy level. Except in those cases where the pools had been years without cleaning so there was too much dirt and debris.

This is a late comment, but if you take a tennis ball, stab a hole in it, and sink it in the skimmer basket, it'll help collect that hair when the pool runs

We have a nature pool. We have a dedicated area with plants that clean the pool. Sometimes we add some harmless bacteria that kills algae

That was an entire ecosystem growing inside that pool... the cleaning company did a great job restoring it🙂

The string type algae is really the worst. In the aquarium community we call it the "hair algae" and it absolutely destroys your fish tank's ecosystem as it blankets all over the substrate and plants. The best part, no fish won't eat it except a few species. Hair alage is a fishkeeper's worst nightmare.

@@ElonHuskyOutdated, but not super old. Unkempt and needed renovation from a roof leak. Bank foreclosure in Florida. Slime happens and being empty for a good chunk of time, the clean up took a lot.

Yeah, the stank is REAL!! Started skateboarding in the mid 80s ,we would hunt out and skate any concrete pools we could find ,unless they were brand new, 75% needed part emptying and cleaning first. Every town has a skate park now, kids dont do that stuff anymore.

During winter, add a strong algaecide for winterization to prevent algae growth. This is because chlorine is less effective at lower temperatures. Also, ensure that the pool is still filtered every day. Not sure how people in freezing temperatues would handle their pool in winter though as my local climate is more temperate.
