I’ve never “hated” the Beatles, they just weren’t ever my favorite music. Girlfriend showed me Across the Universe, made it to that song, and I fell in love. It’s been stuck somewhere in my mind ever since. Simple and beautiful. I always get lost in a trance while I listen and usually have to hit replay, so I can attempt to fully focus on the next go around.

That's not quite the right metaphor. "Nervous, or skittish as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs." is how I heard it. That cat would only sound like Yoko when someone actually rocked over its tail. How about "two cats trapped in a gunny sack." John liked Yoko's horrible voice. It was much like how Zappa like Ian Underwoods screechy saxophone. Now you gotta search for "Plastic Ono Mothers" How about that for contrast with "Because?" Yoko sings on the song, "Scumbag"
What a fitting tribute to a great song, it's origins, the lyrics, the passion and effort put into the recording. It's one of my favorites, among many from the Beatles. I'm going to listen to it again with your new perspectives to draw from. Thank You!
So ahead their times! Absolutely magic, eternally......
This just makes me love the song more
You do artistic analysis of popular peices in a way that's not pretentious or mundane and for that I can only say thank you and well done!
Between us, we also created a backing track with John playing a riff on guitar, me duplicating every note on an electronic harpsichord, and Paul playing bass. Each note between the guitar and harpsichord had to be exactly together, and as I'm not the world's greatest player in terms of timing, I would make more mistakes than John did, so we had Ringo playing a regular beat on hi-hat to us through our headphones.~~~George Martin
Beautiful and, as always, insightful tribute to one of the most exquisitely haunting songs in the Beatles back-catalogue.
Even if John got the inspiration for Because from reversing moonlight sonata its amazing how he found the right chords for it. Love John's 68-69 guitar riffs (Dear Prudence, Julia etc..) pure genius. 🙌👍

@@kuzey7809 That isn't even really the whole story though as if you literally play Moonlight Sonata reversed, it isn't exactly the chords of Because (though does have a general tonal similarity to Because). How I interpret that origin story for Because is that John hears Yoko playing that piece, says give me it in reverse, THEN John messes about with the chords till he eventually finds what would be the chords to Because

Reminiscent of something ancient. . . absolutely! . . . and as a ole boomer, I never even knew that Yoko was a classical pianist. That detail actually explains A LOT! It's mo wonder she had such a hold on John. I hear moonlight brilliance in their Beethoven-inspired materpiece. Tnank you.
I hear this song starting in piano going to the major ascending, growing in grandeur and then returning to the lethargic nature of the original melody. I may have to see what that would sound like. Cheers from Utah.

I so remember hearing this in real time back in the day and thinking how they EVER going to top THIS album ? appropriately their swan song. And "Because" a stunning example of what John Lennon was capable of. And thanks to George Harrison for bringing the MOOG into the studio. I cant imagine how they could have employed it any better.
When Yoko Ono was mucking about with Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, John Lennon asked her to play him the chords again, but backwards. And when she did, it formed the basis of one of The Beatles' key late-period tracks, 'Because'. 0:40 [Classic FM]

John Winston Ono Lennon, born 9 October 1940. John was asked in an interview, (coda: 1968), about his future in the Beatles. He replied; "I can't see myself being in the group, & being 30." 20 September 1969 Lennon told the group he was leaving. He was 29 years 11 months old. Was it; 1) He thought 30 was too old to be in a group. 2) Yoko was pressuring him to leave & work with her. 3) 1957 thru 1967 was fun working with Paul, but this new guy... 4) While visiting New York visiting, he was asked to visit an office, where he was informed that the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, (TIHR) formerly the Tavistock Clinic in England, was using the Beatles to negatively influence the youth culture thru the use of drugs, & Indian thought. This made John mad, & he stormed out. He returned a few days latter to apologize, & after thinking about it, they were right. 5) In 1960 Hamburg, he sold his soul to the devil for 20 years of fame & fortune. He brought his friends along for 10 years, but wanted to do the last 10 on his own. * *NOTE; When you sell your soul, you are selling your memory track, NOT your spirit. So you would not remember those good 20 years. Doesn't seem worth it to me. Unless, you are a Bodhisattva, willing to sacrifice those 20 years, (yeah, yeah, yeah. Divide 20 by 3, you get 6.66. Numerology 6+6+6 = 18 & 1+8 = 9 The number of endings), for the betterment of mankind as a whole. Ask Yehoshua ben Yosef who's number is 888. This is just a record of what I have heard in the past. This just here for you to ponder. I don't claim to know???

@@kitcat4650 Thanks for the reply. John, meeting Yoko, put her first in his life. Yoko was more important than his ex-wife, his son Jullian and also the Beatles, not only as fellow musicians, but also as friends. And unfortunately there was even the sudden death of Brian Epstein, who was not only their maneger, but, being about 8/10 years older than them, he was like an older brother for all 4 Bealtes. Everyone trusted him and listened to him. He was the only one who could possibly have reasoned with John, even though he was completely scorned for Yoko. If John really declared these things you wrote a week before Abbey Road's release in record stores, an explanation could be that John, sensing that it would be the last Beatles record, wanted to end the Beatles experience giving his bst. To the points 3 and 5, since Paul did not die being replaced by a double and John did not make pacts with the Devil, obviously you are joking. Have a nice day.
would be fantastic if you named sources for the different quotes, or state when they are more hearsay.

John, Paul & George harmonising together. None Greater.
I read somewhere that Ringo kept the timing for everyone by either hitting the high hat or using its pedal, I’ve forgotten which, but I would love to hear the harpsichord and that high hat together. Personally I find the sound of high hat psychedelic and I feel it would add a lot to the song. That’s just me tho 😂😂

She worked in the Avant-garde. That scene's whole vibe is subversively nihilistic. It rejected anything formal. Complicates things. John Cage is classically trained, but you don't see him writing non-repetitious pieces with many notes like Liszt or Chopin.
@felinavasquez2339

Classically trained in music does not mean classically trained in singing, it means she was a killer music player, but as the previous reply states she was also apart of a polarizing artistic movement
Phenomenal song/work of art. Flat video, though. Almost robotic.
Another of Yoko’s beautiful, simple-yet-abstract contributions was her haunting “Who Has Seen The Wind?” It is one of her simple masterpieces. (I’m sure most of us old Beatle fans know this, but then there are probably tons of new ones every year) Who has seen the wind? Neither you nor i But when the trees bow down their heads The wind is passing by Who has seen the wind? Neither you nor i But when the trees bow down their heads The wind is passing by Oh, wind, wind Wind, wind, wind Who has seen enough? Only me and john But when a smile goes 'round the world Our love is catching on Oh, smile, smile Smile, smile, smile Who has seen your dream? Only you and him But when the world gets bright and clear You know that we were there Oh, world, world World, world, world
Who DOESN'T KNOW "Because" was inspired by Yoko playing Moonlight Sonata & John requesting that she play it backwards? ONLY EVERY Rolling Stones fan EVER. Therein perhaps lies the difference between Beatles fans & Rolling Stones fans...who believe the Rolling Stones were/are the greatest band ever. You get it or you don't. You get a song like Cry Baby Cry or Penny Lane or A Day in the Life (and dozens of other Beatle's songs) or you don't. Hard to argue taste...or lack thereof. Not that the Stones aren't perhaps the greatest rock band ever either. Point being it is largely a matter of taste. What gets me though, is most Rolling Stones fans argue from the view of not really understanding what went in to the Beatles recordings. Back in the day (1970's) I'd argue with Rolling Stones fans about who was the better band only to find out that most of them hadn't even listened to every Beatle's album. Their arguments sounded as dumb as that statement sounded. Yeah...how about an informed opinion?
Gfd stop dissing Ringp.

I don't think anyone meant to do that. There were no rhythm parts in the song.
This song is a good example of why the Beatles are better than the Rolling Stones...
Just ease up on Yoko for a moment. John loved her, and she was John's muse. John broke up the Beatles - as Paul has said many times
nice dreamy idea -- but, in the real world, the chords to Because are not The Moonlight Sonata backwards. What John picked up on, if in fact Beethoven's piece was on his mind, was a minor chord, followed by a half step up chord that resolves to a new tonic. John was so freakin creative in this part of his life Beethoven wasn't necessary, but he and Paul were picking up on everything and music was just flowing out of them. And as for Yoko: she needed to get a life, and stop hanging around the office where people were working, sheesh: do your visual art, that was your thing. Just listen to her music after Lennon's death, exploitative album covers and total garbage in the grooves. yuch.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Make some videos on Rolling Stones etc
