Growing a tree that big takes about 100 years or so, so that definitely isn’t an option. They use a real tree as tradition because using a fake one would almost kill the magic and the chance of the tourists numbers lowering over a fake tree is a risk they’re not willing to take.

Cause in the yard thingy if they grow one it will take a lot time and if the roots invade the buildings space it will make the building unstable and the yard has a lot of concrete so no water can perforate the ground and roots can also ruin the concrete by making the soil underneath not flat

We've always wondered the same thing. Besides, if they can't plant / grow one, with todays technology, they can totally make fake life like tree. Heck, they could even install pine fragrance misters like disney does for their bakeries. Save the environment and still get an amazing tree ever year. It would be a win-win.

@@kindereggs4263 It would still grow but it will be slower because the soil on rockefeller is not enough to make it grow and the roots will probably penerate the sewage systems.

The tree lived 80 years, so it would be eliminated for an entertainment purpose. You made fake branches but could not make a fake tree using the same organic materials.

Look, I’m sorry but all of you haters don’t know what this tree means to 8 millions of New Yorkers. It is a beacon of hope in a time of darkness this tree went from being a road side tree to a symbol of hope and joy for millions. The fact that the tree is so close to being 100% authentic means so much for people in a time where we are sick of people lying to us. I love trees and the environment but this tree with it’s one life improved the lives of millions.

It would be very hard to maintain a tree in the middle of a city and the roots would mess with sewage, tunnels and nearby buildings. Good idea though.

I don’t think any tree of substantial size would survive the transplanting process, and the concrete would keep any younger trees from developing strong and healthy roots. You’d probably need to renovate the entire square if you wanted a place for a living tree to grow, especially if you wanted it to reach any significant height. Still, I’d prefer that over cutting 80 year old trees every year and hauling them across the city just for a few weeks of decoration.

I wouldn’t let those maggots cut a tree out of my yard go take one of the 800 million between the rickerfeller estates

That tree went through ww2, vietnam war, and the cold war. And they are using it for a christmas tree and throwing it away after a few weeks.

That tree probably isn't going to make a lot of home but at least they're using it for something instead of throwing it away like everyone else. The yule tree tradition exists because the base of the tree is to light the hearth for the 12 days of yule which begins on the longest night. The rest of the tree would also be used. But yeah, this is kinda a bastardization of that tradition.

Well the tradition comes from yule where the base of the tree lights the hearth for 12 days for warmth. The rest of the tree also gets used later. That being said the Rockefeller tree is overkill.

Everyone butthurt because they want something to be mad at. The tree is beautiful and really is a sight to behold. Everyone worries about one tree but saying nothing of the millions of real trees bought every year for Christmas, then thrown away, or at the very least, turned into mulch. Everyone involved talking so excitedly as if it's something to be proud of. Seriously? Cutting down an old tree just to keep it on display for few days, shame on them.

Wow this Came from someone’s backyard and was there for 80 years!!!

I hope they plant a new tree for every tree they cut down just to have a pretty view for Christmas.

Bruh I thought they’d just transplant the tree, replanting it on site then once done either return it to the original location / other location or just leave it there all year round... they didn’t have to kill it....

I thought the same thing, but then when I heard the saw and them use the word "cut" I was like....ummm...wait a second.

We've always wondered the same thing. Besides, if they can't plant / grow one, with todays technology, they can totally make fake life like tree. Heck, they could even install pine fragrance misters like disney does for their bakeries. Save the environment and still get an amazing tree ever year. It would be a win-win.

I like how the hate comments are all about how short the tree lasts when in reality after the tree comes down the wood is recycled for housing and other useful stuff.

Where I'm from they planted a tree about 10 years ago. We've been using it since then. Much better solution than cutting a new one every time holidays arrive.

Christmas is not real lil, bighead.

You can agree or disagree with the 80 year old tree being cut down but it doesn't get "tossed away" or "trashed" afterwards. They say in the video the lumber is donated to habitat for humanity.
