    Said it early this morning when the lineup was leaked that from the lineup Ten Hag is looking to shut the midfield completely because Guardiola loves dominance in Central midfield so he trusted the fullbacks to defend the 1 on 1 situations well. And we have to give praise to Lisandro Martinez hasn't played for a while and did not look out of place even once ❤

    Very good video, as always. I disagree with the manager ratings though. Tactically United were much better than City. Nullified them in the first half, and handled the pressure really well in the second half. It's not like City had a plethora of chances and missed all of them. Ten Hag deserves a higher rating than Pep in this match, even without factoring in the difference in quality between the two teams and the different circumstances of each team's season.

  • @user-uc7gk4ch6s

    @user-uc7gk4ch6s

    I agree, just because city dominated possession and took more shots, doesn't mean the game plan was better. All those stats really needs to take into account what the teams are capable of and city are much more capable than united. However, the true rating needs to come from the plans itself. Giving away possession and more difficult shots was all part of the plan and because it worked so well, it had many city players taking shots that they would normally not take due to the low scoring chance. You could see how frustrated the city players were and that was because ten haag's plans worked really well.

    @@willmcclard206 In these games, at some point, the focus of teams would be not to improve their approach, but also to force the opposition into making mistakes. Man United and Real Madrid did so by playing in dangerous long balls: it was a Gvardiol mistake yesterday, and a great Bellingham touch that game that made the difference. In both games, Doku was brought on to force a mistake from either sides. So, you're right.

    @@causalchanges1675for starters, Mourinho inherited a side who had just won the FA cup, they struggled to progress under LVG, but it wasn't a poor side. Mourinho also did spend a lot, he broke the transfer record for Pogba - you can't directly compare the numbers because there has been so much inflation in football transfers. Mourinho also benefited from the premier League being weaker - in the 17/18 season when they finished second they were still 19 points off city, it was just every other title contender also performed poorly - no one else broke 80 points. Since then we have also seen clubs like Aston Villa, West Ham, Newcastle, Brighton, etc... investing and improving making it a lot harder to compete in the league. The biggest difference though is that Ten Hag inherited an incredibly toxic side that had formed under rangnick and has turned it around completely. Meanwhile Mourinho inherited an LVG side that looked like they were just turning a corner now that he had implemented the fundamentals and turned it into a toxic mess by the time he left.

    @supersnail5000 Couldn't be further from the truth. Ten Hag spent more even if you adjust for inflation but that's not even the issue. It's that Mourinho's signings were ACTUALLY GOOD, Antony was a 90M+ flop like many others. The only good signings were Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro (who only joined because Varane and Ronaldo were there). The Premier League when Ten Hag finished 3rd was much weaker since most of all the usual title contenders of the last 15 years had some of their worst seasons that year, except Arsenal (first proper comeback season in ages) and City. All the others were either inexperienced teams when it came to challenging for top 4, or Tottenham. It's funny how you make that 80pts remark but forget to mention that there were only 2 teams with more than 80pts when Ten Hag finished 3rd. And that 4th placed this season had 68 pts. While Mourinho only had issues with 2 rebellious players Ten Hag has gotten into fights WITH 4 PLAYERS so far, and by the looks of it he'll keep getting into altercations too. Can't trust a man who dropped De Gea for Onana.

    This situation reminds me of Alex Ferguson's first few seasons in charge. 1989/90, finished 13th Everyone thought he ought to be sacked. But he won the FA Cup so was allowed to stay. 1990/91, finished 6th Won the Cup Winners' Cup & UEFA Super Cup. 1991/92, finished 2nd 1992/93 won the EPL I hope Ten Hag is allowed to stay and similar success follows. Due to the number of shots Man Utd concedes in each match, I was totally unimpressed by the way Ten Hag set up his team this season. But longevity of managers is usually the bedrock of success... like Liverpool, Man City & Arsenal. So I guess Ten Hag should get at least another season.

    Well said @JCzzzzz. I've made this point (as an older fan) repeatedly on United Stand and don't get any likes or responses. I pointed out that between Feb 1989 and April 1990, United won just 11 out of 44 league matches (25% win rate = relegation form). Fergie had been there for over two years before this appalling run kicked in (United had finished 2nd in 1988). Fergie had to bite the bullet and break up the Atkinson team with its reputed drinking culture and bring in his own people. Ten Hag is having to do something very similar now. Getting rid of de Gea after finishing 3rd last year is an example of making a decision that in the short term has had really risky consequences but needed to be done for the return of long-term success. The problem though is that this is 2024 and not the late 80s as football (and societal) culture and attitudes have been sacrificed for the need of the quick fix.

I totally dislike the fact that Ten Hag's team has conceded possession and chances to mediocre teams throughout the season. But I hope the uncanny statistics means history has a chance of repeating itself. Especially when Ratcliffe does not seem to want to buy quick success by spending silly money, managerial stability will be key. Even more so, it will send a message to the players that the MANAGER will stay, it is the PLAYERS who will have to adapt to the manager and NOT the other way round. This will eliminate player power somewhat. Just don't let Ten Hag decides on who to buy. He is particularly biased and weak in this aspect.

    Ten Hag gets a nine; perfect plan without the ball and let down by Onana's howler toward the end. Selections were perfect, subs were conservative but well timed, and the discipline of United was shockingly impressive. Pep gets a two; he got his team selection totally wrong IMO. Stones hasn't played much of late (neither has Ake for that matter) and trying to play with high and wide fullbacks played right into United's plan to funnel the ball wide around the low block. Ortega/Gvardiol's error wasn't his fault, but Kovacic never should've started. He should have stuck with the 3-2-5 or 3-1-6 shape on the ball, with Doku and Silva high and wide, Akanji and Rodri as the pivots, and Walker and Gvardiol next to Dias while Foden and KDB roamed the half spaces and overloaded the left side with Doku's directness. Side note- if that was the last we see of KDB in sky blue, it was a pretty pathetic way to go out. He was really dreadful today and I'm a little surprised that he seemed unwilling to drop deep and progress the ball up the pitch

    Great video. I still can’t believe ETH beat Pep. This is not a fluke, but a solid game plan by ETH and near-perfect execution by MU players. When the kick off started, I saw Rashford closed in with the other 3 to make a 4 person blockage in the midfield, I feel we have a chance. Even Bruno is very disciplined, which means not rush out every time, but stayed on our own half when not in possession. This saved stamina for MU players. And I can see real improvement in the Hold Up Play in the midfield area in own half, all the players made very little mistake, first time feeling there is chemistry between players.

And allow who needs to leave to leave and be replaced like Martial etc. There is hints of progress with the Caos of finishing 8th. So let the project be monitored with ETH and assist the project. Guardiola is a league manager. His style of football is designed to be consistent and win most matches, it's like tossing a weighted coin that lands face 9 out of 10 times. That works with a league format since a team there wins by achieving the most points. However, in a cup what matters is to plan perfectly the match ahead. That's how teams like Dortmund and United can get so far in cup formats while failing to fulfill expectations in the league.

    Tag was brilliant, Pep was very poor and ungracious in defeat- United needed this win, they had a right players in the right positions. Now all we need is for City to face the FA charges and draw a line under years of alleged financial issues, and if that means a 1000point deduction, removal of all titles for the period covered by the charges and a hefty £fine, so be it.

    What a cool analysis. I am a novice here. Its fascinating to see, because its a head game until you unsettle the confidence of your opposition. Then, seize a counter attack chance. Brilliant tactical play and your brief shots of players in position prove what you are saying. An other psychological factor for me was the massive amount of praise heaped upon all of the usual suspects at City for beaking records in the EPL. How does a team NOT get slightly overconfident when they are as brilliant as they are, at a time like this. Complacency and overconfidence led to delayed observation and resolute action. When DID respond, we saw exactly how they dominated and scored. Thankfully Sir Ten Hag plan was indeed perfection. Note his team selection too. Seasoned professionals. Especially at the back. Wonderful stuff! #KeepTenHag!!(obviously).

    My friend disagreed but I said Doku is unlocking the defence. AWB is a great 1v1 defender but is a bit slow and reserved and Doku was taking advantage of that pushing AWB to make the first move or concede more ground into the box, this happened a few more times. But as you said, it was what Doku afforded the other players to do, gave them an in to the defence, less reliant on an overload. I knew City had a goal in them but if they didn't get it by the 75th min I had a great feeling United could keep this lead, assuming heads didn't drop. The goal that went in actually was very weak from United's GK, sadly but they kept composure. But my ass could shape diamonds by the end.

    Ten Hag saw weaknesses in Pep's micro-tactics and devise a plan to combat that. Which is why it was all look so easy. Ten Hag's one of the beautiful game master tactician and a genius. All he lacks of was players to execute his plans. On the Final he got his 1st choice CB pairing that done so well last season back and the team deliver the trophy. The problem is clearly not the manager. He definitely got my vote: Ten Hag IN.

    I think the manager ratings are off, pep had a bad team selection and they looked totally off in the first half while the 2nd half was pretty much all doku creating for city and a bad gk mistake for the goal. Sure alvarez could have done better with his finishing and ortega/gvardiol could have avoided the mistake but considering everyone thought utd would get absolutely hammered yet somehow city struggled to create and utd looked the far secure side exploiting cities weaknesses. Rashfords first touch was off all game as there were at least 2 or 3 occasions where, if he controlled the ball better, he is 1v1 with the keeper which for me kinda balances out alvarez poor finishing. For me its a 5 for pep for his horrible team selection playing exactly into utds gameplan only safed by putting on doku and him having an amazing performance. KDB was MIA, Haalands only sign of life was hitting the post and maybe 2 occasions where his hold up play put them into a decent position but he was constantly outbattled by martinez even in the air which was embarassing considering the height advantage (even mainoo battled him succesfully), Fodens only noticeable moments were the 3 times he tried to flop in the box, otherwise a total letdown considering he won player of the season. City were uncharakteristicly erratic in defense and lacked creating any clear cut chances in the first half due to their lineup and structure resulting in utd parking the bus even more in the 2nd after scoring their 2 goals.

He's not to be blamed for many game defeat.
