We had a fire drill once, and a friend of mine and me didn’t know where we were supposed to go. We ended going out the wrong way because it was the closest exit, but quickly figured out we were in the wrong spot. So we practically ran all the way across our school and caught up with our class before they had even left the building. It took that long for them to reach the exit we were supposed to go out of.

There was just a fire in my school, my class was walking downstairs and we thought it was a drill. Everyone was evacuating like a normal fire drill, and then there was smoke and the nurse was making everyone leave, and suddenly it was chaos. Teachers, don’t expect your students to behave like this during a real fire 💀

I think our school did a great job with fire drills. First of all, they would actually explain to you why you are doing certain things, you also weren't stopped from taking possessions with you as long as they didn't take longer to take with you. They would explain not to run because schools are crowded places and we can be a danger to others, as well as that if everyone was running it would be hard to keep track of everyone. if someone is separated they are encouraged to call out. and we are supposed to be quiet so we can hear if anyone needs help, as well so we can hear for the fire, only the lowest grades have to go in an ordered line, so they don't scramble around trying to get in line, and it gets less strict and faster the higher grade you are. as in the higher grades you are trusted to follow the teacher and make sure you leave room in the hallway for others to pass. The older grades also don't get a warning for when the fire dill would be happening later in the year, all they are told is that the fire drill will be happening "this week" and if you are without teachers like in the bathroom or at study hall, you have to get out yourself, in fact sometimes they leave before the fire drill and you have to get out yourself, yes we do stand on the grass behind the road, because that's where the fire department would come in but we are a great distance from the school. The best part was that sometimes the staff would block doors and hallways to act as if there was fire blocking the way, so we would be forced to find a different way out. they felt a lot more realistic and the elementary is the closest to the entrance so being slow wouldn't be that much of a problem. The intruder drills were very cool too. Where someone (usually the teacher) has to lock the door you have to cover the windows(if you can) turn off the lights hide and be quiet, and the principal would walk room to room and knock and violently try to turn the doorknob. And if you make too much noise or are seen through the window heel unlock it and come in/(break in). Then nothing happens you just get told to do better or something, My class never failed. In the higher grades sometimes the teacher also leaves before the drill. It was a private K-12 school. So it wasn't funded by the government, so that may have something to do with it. But I felt like I actually learned things there and the teachers were great. I'm graduated and in college now, but I still think fondly of that school.

The "No taking possessions" rule is the one that confuses me the most. Like, I studied IT so all I usually carry in my backpack is my laptop so when the fire drill started I though to myself "hey, this is supposed to teach me how I should behave in the real fire and I wouldn't wanna leave my laptop with all my files here", so while we were assembling I silently put my laptop in my bag which took me like 2 second, the teacher then criticized this move for 10 seconds. What really get's me is that most of us were doing NOTHING while the single file line was being formed, I can buy that orderly leaving the building is preferable to the chaotic scramble, but most people would react like I did in real emergency, we were all IT students so of course some of us would try to quickly take our most prized possession, that we had right in front, that we are trained to quickly pack up from all the moving between classes, while we are doing next to nothing, especially since this would pose no risk to the evacuation. It just wasn't realistic and the fact that this breaks the protocol is deeply concerning. If you have a list of rules and you know that almost everybody is going to break the first rule, because it's really arbitrary, really early in the evacuation, then wouldn't this increase the chance that they decide that the protocol itself is useless and arbitrary too? People are already going to be incredible stressed and the need to run from danger is hard-coded in our human psyche, by following this rule you ensure that the students will have at least one more argument why they should disobey during the emergency, which again happens RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EVACUATION. It honestly seems like this protocol is concerned with mainly giving the people OUTSIDE the emergency a sense of comfort and safety, don't worry we have prepared for the emergency, we practiced fire drills, does it work or make sense, will students obey it? Don't think about it, be glad that you are prepared.

As someone who was affected by the Australian bushfire season first hand, I can confirm we did not follow the evacuation procedure that was put in place 🤣 instead, the whole school just booked it in the opposite direction of the oncoming inferno and we walked for miles until we were in safety

I remember fire drills on my highschool and how they not only expected this from us, but they also had a specific order in which the different classrooms had to get out of the building and we had to wait for them to go down the stairs to get out ourselves. Never mind were the fire is, every class has to wait their turn to get out of the flamming building They also forbade us from taking *anything* with us, not even a jacket, saying that in an actual emergency we can't waist time taking our stuff. But we still had to wait for our turn to get out which gave time to get at least something while we were literally just standing there next to the door I once got scolded at by our teacher for putting on my coat cause it was Winter and I didn't want to catch a freaking cold. So next year, when they anounced us in advance that sometime during the week there'd be a fire drill (it was also Winter) I simply stayed with my coat on at all times in case the fire alamr went off and we had to go outside. It wasn't great being on the inside wearing a coat with the heating on, but it was all worth it for the satisfaction I felt when already outside a teacher asked me why I put my coat on and I told her that I already had it on before the alarm went off, the silence that followed, and then a simple "Oh". This is painfully relatable, but at my school there are a few differences: - There is never a real fire, and we all walk slowly for no reason with no sense of danger. - There's a very annoying alarm that blares nonstop, even after everyone has evacuated. - You have to stand in singlefile lines and stare foreward without making a sound. - We do not feel congratulated if we do it right.

Exactly Tbh in my old classroom in like fourth fifth grade the rack thing hooks for backpacks Was right outside the exit door, unless the fire was spreading rapidly or it’s like exploding a ton of shit I’d be able to get it, and we were supposed to go on the field right next to that classroom, really big and open. And it’s an outside school, unless the fire is scattered by wind or explosion idk I’d probably have time to get my bag … probably a lot of stuff I didn’t think about in this hypothetical situation (I value possessions a lot)

i hate how accurate this is even in a drill 😭 i remember when we did the same thing (but an earthquake drill) and our facilitator got angry to all of the students because apparently he saw a sixth grader very chill as he walk in the line with a book on top of his head like the rest of us. he said "you're gonna die and you look so chill and happy?" and almost made us repeat the whole thing. i think he thought the kids weren't taking it seriously. but like tf we're supposed to do? cry? act like the ground is shaking? 😭 until now my siblings and i laugh everytime we remember it

I’m watching this EXACTLY 2 years after the release of this video, and it’s still a masterpiece

There's one teacher I have that does this exactly excluding the clapping, and yells at anyone who does it differently, including me who brought my bag (because I have expensive things) So when I am in that class, I won't take off my bag, so that way it takes longer to leave it than to take it. (Fire drill not real fire, but she said this is exactly what we are doing during a real fire. I hope a fire doesn't happen during that class)

Imma explain.So basically during a fire drill in school teacher will ask you to escape it like a robot.No talking,move slowly and synchronized with others and if you fail you'll have to repeat.Basically in this joke,the teacher asked the students to do the same thing despite the situation is not a drill.Idk if you ever participated in a fire drill or your school just never do that but yeah that's what happens in a fire drill.

i personally don’t think people should be moving slowly but what i hate is when people trample over and push each other. i don’t know if it makes me super sensitive but i had a fire drill during summer school so every was just pushing each other and pushing me so i ended up getting very nervous and having a panic attack

Unironically you should do this, it's safer, obviously you won't be slowly shuffling out, but walking out in an orderly fashion prevents tripping and crowding of exits, it's crowd control.

This, the fact that most people in the comments doesnt get it shows how badly teachers explained this to them. Getting trampled to death is a very real danger during building evacuations, smoke is going to make it impossible to see infront of you (its grey to jet black not white like in movies/games) You arent going to be able to see a person on the floor, and if people are screaming and yelling you arent going to be able to hear that person on the floor. Worse yet, if you have people behind you pushing to get to the exit you arent going to be able to stop yourself from stepping on that person without being shoved down by the people behind you, (the shoving is what gets people killed in crowded scenarios) worst, worst case scenario you trip on that person and join them in being crushed to death by your fellow students. Same with the attendance afterwards, too many kids think its fine to just sneak off and walk home but that attendance is for the teachers to let the firefighters know if they need to search for people still trapped in the building. You could be putting another potentially trapped student at risk by having firefighters split up resources searching for you, or getting one of the firefighters killed because they spent too long in the building trying to find you to help you. Same with grabbing your things, most peoples stuff is made of plastic if it burns its going to melt to your skin and stick. Not only that but its costing potentially precious oxygen and time that you need to get out safely. Your stuff can be replaced, you cant.
