    @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu

    If you leave your card in overnight whilst its on other work make two printouts then write on the back of them you left your card in overnight and between the hours of 17:00 - 04:00 you were actually on a daily rest period and not other work. Then hand one in to your office and keep one for yourself for 28 days. If you left it in overnight but changed the tacho to rest and its clocked up 9 - 11 hours of rest then all is fine... Unless you were due a weekly rest.

    Nice vid pal.. iv got my module 4 on Monday then Im on the road. I f I fire a few tacho questions at ya could you answer what you can pal. So much to take in.Thanks.Can you insert card and record other work even when the keys are not in the vehicle?When you have gone over you drive time by accident do you do a print out as soon as you've infringed or wait until youre eventually parked up?Do you put manual entries in on utc time or local time. So you you need to subtract an hour of you summer hour or will the machine do it for you.?Thanks very much pal. If you could answer these that would be great..Cheers John.

  • @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu

    @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu

    Hi John, 1. Inserting the card is safest when the ignition is switched on but engine doesn't have to be running. Once your card is in, it will continue to record in whatever mode it was set with the keys removed and the tacho in standby mode. 2. When the vehicle is in motion your locked out of nearly everything so printouts can only be done when stationary. You have to stop in a safe place as soon as possible after going over your time. 3.it depends, the old 1.3 tachos are utc the newer 1.4 and 1.5 display local time and record it in utc for you on manual entries. Yes subtract 1 hour in summer to get utc.

    If you are driving along a road and you are aware that if you carry on along the road you will get stuck in traffic and you will go over you driving hours, but you can stop in the lay-by you are about to pass but you are unsure as to whether your 45 mins will count, what would you do? If you take 45mins after just 4hrs drive, is the amount you can then drive 4.5hrs or 5hrs? How many hours do you need to have driven so that the 45min classes as 45min, not the 15min split break?

    As a new driver . I'd never been shown how to use a digital tacho. Just a quick question . If you haven't driven for a few days or a week . Do you need to go through this process ? Obviously if you've had a decent break your last day of work will have been some time ago. Can you not just put the card in the tacho unit and let it do its thing or do you still need to make some changes via manual entry?

  • @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu

    @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu

    6 жыл бұрын

    Manual entry is a best practice thing not necessarily something you need to do. If its an older tacho not much changes you just add the bit on to the end and start same as always. If its a newer one you'll need to wind the date back fair way to add your other work or what ever you were doing. The process is always the same there's just a bigger gap in the middle.

    I did my first 3 driving jobs last week for Hermes . The guy showed me my vehicle , gave me my job list and said put the tacho card in but don't touch it, he rushed me through . I talked to a couple of drivers , albeit very quickly as they were busy loading up . They said you need to show your rest breaks . I hadn't got a clue what to do . I ended up pressing some buttons but did it wrong . On the 3rd day of driving it showed I needed to take a break immediately because I'd driven 11 hours solid , which I hadn't . They were all local runs . Hanging around waiting to load up . I probably never drove more than 30 - 40 mins in one go before my next stop off. I had to sign the printout to show I'd made an error on my manual entry . So even if I've had a week off . When I put the card in , and lets say it took 30 mins to get the keys , check my load , do my drivers checks etc ...... I then need to make a manual entry as in take the time back 30 mins on crossed hammers to show what time I started work ? There's alot to learn as in Theory tests , CPC , hazard perception etc ..... before you can take your actual driving test . But there is no training or testing whatsoever on the use of Tachographs which I find really strange as its such a critical part of your job . I've watched alot of videos on KZread . I think yours is about the best I've seen , its less confusing , but there's still alot to take in for a new driver wanting to stay safe and legal. I've read so many comments from new drivers who are in the same boat as me and haven't got a clue how the digital tachograph actually works. Your help is very much appreciated . Thank you :-)

  • @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu

    @DTWTheWanderingMuzungu

    Yeah if you wind it back 30 mins to show other work that'll do it unless its 1.4 or newer then you have to account for the entire period the card was removed. I don't know why no one gets shown how to use tachos but yes it is complicated and even now after six years I still get the occasional infringement. Most companies nowadays expect drivers to work out of the box and not spend any time training you. I just started at a new place to cover a job the other day, I was given a key pointed to the truck told to bring it round the front to get loaded and take it to the next depot where they'll tell me what to do next. You get used to winging it but to start with its very daunting.

    MaRoMoRoStaR If it's the first time you'll just need to add a few minutes of other work from when you arrived/clocked on. The next time depending on the tacho either add a bit of other work at the end of your shift and a bit at the start or you have to account for the whole period the card was removed and add your rest in between those bits of other work.

    MaRoMoRoStaR Well it's not a legal requirement thing per se but it just looks a bit more professional to do manual entries. If you decided not to do them you would just have had a longer rest period. EG remove card at 18:46 and put it back in at 7:20 you could leave it like that or do a manual entry. Put other work until 19:00 rest to 07:00 and other work until 19:19. It just tidies up the numbers instead of having a big block of unknown which is counted as rest.

    There is other stuff in here like history of tachos the driver regs and working time directive on top of showing how the tacho works. So no you don't need to watch all three if you don't want.
