there's a certain musical formula to these Kpop songs to be honest. Great guitar playing but they don't tend to to use any crazy musical ideas. same as western pop music. so when a guy like him (probably some kind of jazz or prog rock training) plays it its a pretty big step down. Also keep in mind some of the solo's he's written to add to the song sound a little improvised/ nothing wrong with that and I think it sounds great but it does take a bit less time than writing them.

It's probably because chord progression in K-POP songs tends to be very simple. It's just that they're heavily layered with a lot of instrumentals and effects.
