    Hi thas cool 😎 I had also of Japanese cars being a car enthusiast. I also bought the Subaru WRC STI Prodrive drive back in 2005, i nearly bought the Mitsubishi Evo and Skyline R34 which of i didnt buy the R34 which was only 23k them days that car is now about 150k plus now. Subaru was the only car that i crashed due to another drivers error cutting across me. Since then i gone through about 18 cars like 4 type Rs all the way up to FK8 which was modified to 450bhp, Lotus Club R models modded had in the past 350z, 370z nissans etc... basically what i am trying to say in the long run was to this day i have that love for the subaru as it was ahead of its time along with Mitsubishi and Nissan. 😊😊😊

    Great video mate. It’s painful being a Subaru fan sometimes. That 2006 season watching Solberg struggle and the eventual withdrawal from WRC was a defeat. Also as a GH Hatch owner myself to hear how bad they were sucks. (Fast and Furious 6 makes up for it) but it’s a history like no other and like you say it still continues today where none of our contemporaries from that time can say they are still doing what Subaru does today. Thanks

    His car also wasn't called the Lancer Evo WRC. While Subaru and all other manufacturers switched to building the cars to the new World Rally Car rule set from 1997, Mitsubishi continued to follow the Group A regulations (because they were not forced to switch to the new philosophy). Therefore, the car was just called the Lancer Evolution (insert number here). Makinen took his titles in the Evo 3, Evo 4, Evo 5 and Evo 6. Mitsubishi then finally switched to the World Rally Car rule set in 2001 or 2002 (not sure which of the two), upon which they actually named the new car Lancer Evo WRC.

  • @alterglobo
    @alterglobo5 ай бұрын

    Nice work. There is no mention of the modifications for the WRC homolgation from Group A in 1997, though. Subaru and Mitsubishi should be lauded for continuing to produce commercial cars closely resembling and being the mechanical base and platform for the competition cars. Peugeot, Citroën, Skoda, Volkswagen, Ford and Hyundai continued to produce WRC prototypes, which, however, beared no relation with any production model (essentially keeping a shell look from an unrelated FWD model) while Subaru and Mitsubishi always run with their base AWD, same engine layout, three differentials and essentially same basic suspension layout. The current Toyota Yaris GR would be an equivalent car had the regulation not changed to Rallye1.

    WRC just isn't as interesting anymore without rivalries like Subaru vs Mitsubishi. More manufacturers need to join to make it what it used to be. It seems to be going well for Hyundai. Maybe it could boost sales for others as well.

    Their legacy (arf arf) far outstrips Ford, Peugeot, and Citroën in terms of brand awareness for rally success. Mitsubishi come closest to that. I think it's because none of those other 3 sold cars that directly tapped into their rally success as Subaru did with the Imprezza WRX and Mitsubishi with the Evo. Seems odd when you think that, from a manufacturers point of view, rallying is all about brand awareness and sales.

    Rally died when the FIA became political and not about the pursuit of perfection. Nope that wasn’t in 2024 either, it happened during the late Schumacher era. You could tell they wanted events to be corporate, drivers to be corporate and racing was last. Racing became about aero and not about driving. It became too safe, qualify on pole and go through the motions. The FIA is going through what all entertainment industry is going through. People are leaving but corporations are still pumping money into it for tax reasons etc. it’s not a fan driven sport anymore and the bill is coming due. Boomers are about to reap the rewards of 40 plus years of toxicity

    9:13, McRae was just a brainless driver, Sainz has more victores and 1 more tittle, and even at Citroen they elected Sainz instead of the brainless driver for 2004. It is quite noticeable you didnt live the group A era, McRae was well known for being a crasher, a throw to trash champioships, he only became a legen just because of videogames, and there were a big rumour even covered by the press at that time that Richards ordered mechanics to boost down Sainz's car for Rac 95.
