How Strong is the English Network of Castle in Late Game ?

The Network of Castles gives you an advantage when an enemy is sighted near your settlement. Ranged units close to Town Centers, Outposts, Towers, and Keeps will get a 25% attack speed buff. This comes in handy later in the game where huge armies face off in the middle of the map !

    Yeah so about the Tower of Victory. It seems to not change the attack speed of Men-at-Arms, not sure if intended or not. It's a frustrating landmark to work with too. Having to funnel and rally Barracks and Archery Range units there to get the buff simply breaks cohesion for military rally points. The radius of effect is small, and possible to entirely block off with structures. Hard to use on a small map sometimes. It's a shame that most of such buffs cannot be shared to allied units. I suppose it would break game balance or something, but I love stacking stuff like this. The Camel Support buff seems to work on all allied infantry as well as the player controlling the Camel. Oh, and Network of Castles doesn't seem to work on melee units, unless the UI is just not showing the buff, yet the buff shows up on such melee units. Another bug or balance feature I found, Prelate Inspiration buff doesn't work on any units that player has converted from an enemy. That'd be so cool if it did! Imagine Royal Cannons and War Elephants with Inspiration! Also, the Prelates near such converted units will be stuck attempting to buff units that can never receive it. Same as with structures, Prelates will just get stuck in the animation loop and will be pretty useless. I hope they at least fix these targeting buffs, as well as that forgetting how to Inspire bug.

    Any chance you could explain why Age 4 Wynguard Palace isn't chosen more often? 100 food, 100 wood, 200 gold 1 man at arms 1 spearman 1 longbow 1 knight 1 trebuchet seems like it would provide really good return value? Thanks

    It’s good value for money yeah but I’d much rather have bombards than trebuchets and it’s too slow to rely on for the other units

    maybe because of the population limit? would be good to constantly throw those units at the enemy, tranding resources in the process, but to make a standing army, maybe it is not so good. Of course, i'm just a noob that have no idea of what i'm talking about.

    If you plan to constantly build trebuchets in late game then sure it's really good. If you don't care for the trebuchet, then having a trickle of a mix of units it's not always so good. For example if you are in imperial going full siege + man at arms, then this army is not that useful. In rare cases you tech in to and wanna build all of those units at the same time, so always one or two of the units feel like a pop waste.

    It takes a 1:15 to make vs the bombard's 45s I believe. So while it is cheap bombards are generally superior and you can make 5 bombards in the time it takes Wynguard to get you 3 trebuchets. It's cheaper and you get some other units but resources are plentiful enough that the discount isn't enough to make trebuchets worth it late game, even if it was 1 to 1. Maybe if production time was faster or if the unique English trebuchet tech worked/was actually good then it might be worth it. This isn't to say trebuchets are bad, just that the bombard is such an upgrade if it's available (which it is in this case) that you wouldn't want to continue using trebuchets once you go imperial. Also a keep with double range is just really powerful.

    @@grrr111222111 in general I don't like trebs. Their dps is just too low for their unit cost. Building 3-4-5 trebs might as well age up and build a bombard.. which does ~3x the damage of 1 treb as well as you can upgrade your entire army. That's why I was asking why no one ever builds it but you see people take the time/rss to build trebs. In a nutshell I think trebs are trash :D

    kasva throwing his units away at the start of their imperial age is imo the decider for this game, or rather the reason the game was not decided for kasva from there on. Imagine if all the units stayed alive, got upgrades and would be there to protect the bombards that tear down castles, instead of donated. It seems like that was on purpose and not just bad unit control, which seems really surprising. Does anyone have ideas about what kasva could have gained there, or for what other reason they might have done that?

    There was a battle there a few seconds ago, maybe he issued a command to reinforce that battle and then he forgot after teching up

    @@VertFirstQuestion it looks like he runs in after that has finished completely. It may have been triggered by the springald or some longbows hitting the units, maaaybe. But then they run onto the castle and ignore the units. In aoe2 logic this would not happen with patrol, but be a right click on the building. I therefore assume, that this is not an attackmove, or the units being pulled by beeing attacked, which might be a wrong assumption.

    You can set different units to certain number keys to let you select them quickly. so for example crossbows on number 1 men at arms on number 2 and siege equipment on number 3.

    To do it select the units you want then hit control and a number to set them to that number.

    i still need to get used to these graphics.. they are so good, and yet at the same time there is something missing (also castle being destroyed, for example, doesnt look as good as in aoe2)

    the aoe2 animation doenst actually look good. Its look good for aoe2 standards. You are romanticizing AOE2 a bit, which is fine.

    Yeah, the religious units have poor implementation for Relic drop off via shift commands. The unit only remembers the state it is in when the command is issued. Thus, once it picks up the relic, if it was shift commanded to then go to a repostry for one, it will just move to that location. Sitting there chilling out, holding the Relic like a dum dum. Most other RTS games get small stuff like this right. Pretty frustrating to deal with it in aoe4, along side a ton of other bugs and annoyances with the ui. I hate how hard it is to click on Relics most of the time. Same with fishing nodes, unfinished buildings under construction, especially walls. Grrr!!!!

    Keep is a British term for a tower....British empire used use this term in ancient time as it's a more professional word for 'Towers'..

    The keep is the centre building of the castle which is usually all of: palisade, walls, towers, moat, gatehouse then - in the middle - the keep

    I haven't played the game yet and only watched - but a lot and I played pretty much all my life AoE 2 but did they really implement Auto-Aim for everything that shoots Arrows or does it just look like it? Because the Micro-intensive fights in AoE2 were really a great and important part of the game.

    There is auto aim for archers siege can still be dodged. The apm for microing archers is still used in battles to move units, there is alot of bonus dmg on flanking and from.behind units etc.. so battlwa are still very micro intensive

    Aggresive Chinese gives me tears of joy, Kasva is such a brave soul. Viper is very good in countering Chinese seiges(might be the only thing this civ has to offer) though, just snipe them down with Springalds.

    Springalds are too powerfull. The only thing that really counters them in late game armies are the all powerfull culverin or having more springalds.

    It is kinda sus how this channel is detached from what is going on in vipers aoe life 😅 maybe there is red bull, hidden cup or first big aoe4 tourney going on, but you never know. Zero marketing/videos of the competetive scene, no news of career decisions, success or injury status. I know twitter can do that as well, but I also think it is a wasted opportunity to not use here for these rare developments and connect with your viewers. You can use your alt channel for these (like red bull vlog) if afraid as well. There would be a clear distinction of what is here and what is there in that case too.

    He does that mostly in his stream and facebook page, and it's has been that way for a long time. The youtube channel is more of a "highlights" secondary thing. Only in the 2 last years or so he has started doing some "for youtube" content to upload, but it's still the case that all the community stuff (news, health issues, competitive scene, announcements, etc) is post in his facebook and talk in stream.

    Of course. But they are not as visible as here. For example, would it be bad if some of the editor time was used to summarize his Genesis tournament journey instead of seeing how elephants are doing? I think it was magical how he almost got beaten in a bo1 but then ended up proving once again his strengths are not only limited to aoe2 but could beat anyone in a new rts game as well. I think people would be inspired watching that and become fan of viper which is the biggest asset he can get

    I like Viper games - AoE2 on voobly (wololo or whatever),AoE2 DE,AmongUs,StarCraft II. But AoE4 videos are boring.No hate - maybe cause it's being new game and Viper being more focused in less known game environment,or game actually requires more focus overall,or cause he just being more interested in it.But basically those videos are more about a game just going on,and less commentaries,less trash talk,jokes and silly entertaining things. On top of that - I don't think that AoE4 "looking" great.There are games where 3D features are amazing even with low res models (or even straight up BAD graphics,but somehow good 3D features). Ground control 2,Supreme Commander - 3D features is what makes those games look amazing,while textures and models - well,they exist. Star Craft II,Total War - have perfect graphics in every way. I don't know whether Rise Of Nations is 3D or 2D but it also being perfect. But AoE4 somehow makes Stronghold Legends graphics to have much more sense... Glad that AoE4 have people who like it,and again - no hate,not trying convince anyone that it's bad game. But in some way it makes me sad and feels like it pushing franchise into "Oh,look it's fancy new 3D graphics,it's so fancy,and so 3D,and so NEW",and what stings the most - it's developed by same company that made masterpieces like Warhammer Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. I hope they somehow make AoE4 much better. MUCH better.
