We know them as an extremely dangerous predator, made famous by movies and TV shows. Are they really all they’re cracked up to be or is the entertainment industry blowing them up to more frightening heights than they should be?

You'd have to make that plural. They don't 1v1 great white sharks. They gang up on them. 1 killer whale vs a great white would be deadly for the killer whale.

Orca is more powerful but the GWS has more powerful jaws.
I have to disagree with this, but only to an extent. The "monster" Mako sharks in California are the most formidable opponents to the Great White. They grow much bigger than other Makos in this area, and they have successfully won territorial "size-ups" against Adult Great White Sharks. Shark Week 2023 had some wonderful footage of this and I encourage everyone to check that out! Mako Sharks are truly incredible animals.
No other movie in history had such a terrifying effect on swimmers world wide than “Jaws”,….and with good reason.
Isn't it ironic how the king of sharks has less aggression towards humans than those under it? When it's much larger and much more dangerous.

I wouldn't say all that white sharks technically have the most documented fatalities of all sharks and considered highly aggressive for sharks. That being said when you go to beach you're never more than a few hundred feet away from sharks and attacks are uncommon drone footage from South Africa and Australia show whites approaching surfers all the time spy hoping to look at them above the surface

Also this idea of mistaken identity when whites attack isn't true sure some cases it might be but for the most part it's territorial, feeding events or curiosity bites. If you actually look at all the known white shark attacks only a small portion of them can be considered mistaken identity most Alot of divers who've been nipped by white sharks say the bites so gentle for its size they think it's their friend tugging on their leg until they look back.. one guy had his dive fins nipper didn't even realize it until his friend turned around and freaked as a huge 18ft+ white pointer was testing his dive fin
The largest recorded GW isn't 23ft it's just shy of 20ft the 23ft estimate is from times before proper measuring of sharks was a thing and most people estimated the size. Even deep blue is only estimated to be 20ft and she's the largest shark filmed and documented

The narrator states the Great white has a bite force of 4000 psi. Yet Dr Brady Barr did a show where he tested a Great white’s bite pressure by burying a bite meter in some bait. He threw it to the Great white which I think was an average sized one, and the Great white took it into its jaws and started shaking it vigorously for a good amount of time. When Dr. Barr brought the bite meter aboard and checked the bite force reading, it was only 660 pounds. A far cry from 4000 pounds. Maybe the outcome would be different if it was a much bigger Great White around 18-20 feet.
The 6 m great white (gw) shark has got impressive weight & length but it’s natural disposition is much too timid. An extinct shark that had a great chance to defeat the gw was the 7 m ginsu shark (Cretoxyrhina mantelli) - it was slightly longer & heavier, was even faster (some scientists even quote a top speed of 40-43 moh for it) & possibly had a more fearsome disposition than the gw.

I believe the short fin mako shark actually has the strongest recorded bite force btw, not a great white.
Tiger shwrk would be the closest match up, they have more assertion
Psi is meadured on top of tooth btw the applied force is lower, crocs have the real jaws

I have seen a tiger shark over 6m long. Out fishing with my dad in his 5.99m boat and a tiger shark at least 1m longer then the boat started circling us before swimming away to this day it's the biggest shark I have ever seen
