How speaking a different language changes the way we think

The ostensible purpose of language is to transmit thoughts from one mind to another. Language represents thought, but does it also determine our thoughts?
This question has entertained philosophers, psychologists, linguists, neuroscientists, and many others for centuries.
For centuries, people thought that words were just labels for objects, and that different languages merely attached different strings of sounds to things-or, more accurately, to concepts. Now it is suggested that the world might be perceived differently by people speaking different languages.
This video aims to shed some light on the psychological phenomena of decision bias, and the impact of language on moral judgments as well as the impact of a foreign language on the psychology of risk averting behavior in humans.

There are quite a few flaws. Having a dominant language means that you have not integrated L2 into your emotional development. It would have been better to do this research on people with several L1 - and they are not so rare! The fact that such people use different languages to speak about different topics could be an indicator that some languages have different impact on different rational and emotional functions.

In that study they should've also tried eliminating the emotion variable. Call the big man your dad or son whom you have to kick to fall down to save the lives of 5 unknown people. Would they pick differently regardless of using primary or secondary language?

There are two axioms in life I have accepted as I pass 59 years here on Earth. Everything is predetermined and We can be born outside of our families. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that I was designed at birth to be A Scorpio/Sagittarius/Pisces, Gay and a Christian. When I was ignorant about Astrology before age 27, I didn´t realize the thousands of ´whys´ behind my behavior in every aspect of life all written on paper before I was born. The nature of good vs evil, the same. What I can see now is that humanity has a repeating cycle. In fact, everything is a cycle limited to our understanding in that humans can only retain true ingram memories for around 40 years and then, we placemark the real memories with summaries. I´ve felt this happen as I did, at one time, vividly remember my grandfather putting down one index finger and I reached way high up to grasp it in my entire hand as we walked to pick grapes when I was three. That real memory has been lost to my senses and replaced with a summary. In the same way, Roma fell and the West is following the exact path, over and over it goes... My point about being born outside out families means that we can actually be born to another culture. I was born Spanish of Spain, despite the fact I´m a cracker from Florida born in Carolina.

It's the nuances of transliteration necessary to conceptualize the same situation without the intonations of various words that require serious contemplation - take esperar - in English to hope, to wait, to expect.
