    this is one of the best demonstrations of how sound travels in different mediums and how sound and light are different in how fast they travel. I've used it in classrooms and with my own kids.

    OK here’s a stupid question. When lightning strikes (you see a flash) but you hear it seconds later, is that too because the sound since it’s traveling through the air takes it longer to travel?

  • @BanAlMandalawi

    @BanAlMandalawi

    That's actually a great question! You're right! You see lightning (the flash) before hearing thunder (the sound) because light travels much faster than sound, and so it get reaches you faster

    In a simple definition, light travels faster than sound. The speed of light depends on what medium it is traveling through, being slow in gases, fast in liquids, and even faster in solids. Sound travels around 332 meters per second when traveling through air.

I’ll be drilling a hole from the attic down so tubing will go inside one of the closets inside and outside right by where he sleeps.

    The speed of sound is not always the same. Remember that sound is a vibration of kinetic energy passed from molecule to molecule. The closer the molecules are to each other and the tighter their bonds, the less time it takes for them to pass the sound to each other and the faster sound can travel. It is easier for sound waves to go through solids than through liquids because the molecules are closer together and more tightly bonded in solids. Similarly, it is harder for sound to pass through gases than through liquids, because gaseous molecules are farther apart. The speed of sound is faster in solid materials and slower in liquids or gases. The velocity of a sound wave is affected by two properties of matter: the elastic properties and density.

    But you did not touch on frequency and how that effects the process? How much sound at 5khz does it take to produce the same level ,and effect of the low frequency sound of the explosion? The word sound, only refers to what we can hear, if we can't hear it, it isn't sound. So the sound felt through the ground, is nonsense, if you can't hear it, it isn't sound. If you place a rod into the ground and vibrate it at a constantly increasing frequency, what frequency will be the first for the three test subjects to sense? Which of them will never hear the vibrating rod because its mass is not large enough to transfer low frequency sound? Little explanations like this can lead someone into thinking they know something, but in relation to what they don't know, it so small that it isn't anything.
