    I think it's meant to be used by those people who still love to shoot film or that are discovering analog photography now. They've got an old mechanical camera from the 70s, 80s or 90s (Yashica Mat 124G, Fuji GW690III, Nikon FM3/A, ...) and of course many of the speedlights of that era don't work anymore today. So they need something new and "retro" like the Godox Lux Junior.

    Ever since I got my Pentax K1-II I have been looking for a small flash. The camera is big, and with an ordinary flash on it, you get a huge combo that is not very convenient. Mine is still on the way, but I ordered it as I learned about it's compact form, specially the horizontal. I think this flash is simply perfect. Perfect according it's claims, not in comparing it with more advanced flashes. It is compact, as it is my main reason to get it, it is reasonably priced, and it has useful features. I like very much the smart design of the wheel which controls the power, it is very easy to use. Good for fill-in flash use and travels. Thanks for the review.

    I just bought one of these and it's mostly just to give me a little light in very dark settings, so even at 1/64th it's almost too bright sometimes, and the refresh rate at 1/32 and 1/64 is impressive, was able to shoot 3 shots at 8 frames per second and the flash lit up for all three shots. That's all I need out of this, anything more and I put on my Godox V1

    You say it was maybe to bright at 64th in lowlight, did you close down to aperture. I want a small flash for a one off wedding I'm doing for a friend as a favour. I don't use flash very often so this could could have come in handy

    I love the low profile of the Lux Junior. It really brought the complete profile of my big Canon digital down to a more manageable carry around. I use it for 'fill' light when shadows are not wanted during daylight shots and it makes a great 'trigger' for my rather large Speedlight flash. I have no idea what the sync cable fits, but since i have no such port on my Canon, I just left it in the box. You will also be very impressed with the fancy box they send it in. You can tell the manufacturer is super proud of their product!

    Nice review of this neat flash. I can see using one for small rangefinder-type film-based cameras. Size and weight of a flash are an issue when using small cameras.

    I bought it to pair on a Rollei 35 film camera. The old Rollei flashed are most often corroded. I put fresh batteries in my Rollei XLC flash... A minute later I heard a loud pop. So I took the batteries out and threw it away and bought the Godox. It good for film snapshots in low light.

    The beauty of using this with an X100 series is that the Fuji has a leaf shutter and has a very high max flash synch speed. So you can crank the shutter speed right up, to bring the background into darkness, but the flash will still perfectly illuminate the closer subject. HSS will do the same thing, but you're talking big flash guns and lots of power per shot.

    Hopefully you get a chance to play with the Godox Lux Senior - I agree with your complaint re the use of AAA batteries - they could have made it a touch bigger and I doubt people would be upset. If I did have one of these, I might use it as a hair/rim light, since I won’t need a lot of power and it does have S1/S2 mode

    I love the idea of the Fujifilm X100V for a carry-everywhere camera, but they're very hard to come by at the moment. Instead, I'm getting a Fujifilm X-T5. Unlike the X100V, the X-T5 doesn't have a built-in flash, but this Godox Jr. seems like it would fit the same purpose, and is small enough to fit in a coat pocket easily.

    @j5daniel182 Жыл бұрын

    any differences in the image when taken with the Godox junior vs the Q? I'm wondering if the Godox junior sitting closer to the camera lens/body gives it a more point and shoot look compared to flashes that sit at higher level (especially when you shoot vertical orientation)

  • @WesPerry

    @WesPerry

    Жыл бұрын

    I suppose it would depend a lot on the distance to the subject. The Q is quite short, and the Jr does sit up a bit. Close up there would be a difference, but that difference would quickly dissolve

    I'm only using this with my civilian Lumix G85 for my own personal usage no pro work. Small compact flash with a small compact camera way better than a popup built in on camera flash. Eneloop makes good rechargeable aaa batteries and if the flash is too harsh then I have diffusion that can be attached using a simple rubber band.

    Interesting. I doubt I will purchase the Lux Junior but for an odd reason. I really miss the built-in flash on my cameras. I believe the last model I own with a built-in flash is the Nikon D810. I would use it in unplanned situations just to bring up shadow detail a little. You would never know there was artificial light involved. Specific to Nikon, I would also use the built-in flash for their CLS. So if planned, it is for CLS control, otherwise, it is unplanned at the moment. The direct flash, especially from a fresnel head while not ideal can be appropriate. When shooting fashion, I sometimes have to remind myself to remove the light modifiers as this no-no is, well just the thing. As always, I enjoy your videos and this one didn't disappoint. Thank you for sharing.

    One thing I somehow failed to mention in the video is that the flash doesn’t have a very long throw. Probably a 24-35mm focal length. Which is likely fine for the vast majority of people who would be using it (and likely in line with most on camera flashes, while still having a significantly larger flash area).

    I am a manual vintage lens user sometimes using over 100mm lens (Projector, Cine etc.) on GFX50R on medium format setting and sometime I don't depending on the lens. The Junior comes in handy to brighten up model face on portraiture. I won't change camera setting as I shoot open. On manual setting lowest is F2, ISO100 distance is 0.5-4m on the flash I will set to the lowest to bright a little high light to the face......still deciding to get the Senior or Junior. Any recomendation

    I've been using APS-C cameras with built-in flash: Ricoh, Fuji, Canon. Always lowest 'wink' setting. Sadly most mfgrs now omit these built-in flash. Now own Leica QP. A 1/64 'wink' is all that's needed. Sometimes ND filter, but it's a 'look' I'm used to using, if used properly gives images that don't look 'lit' at all. Your images of uber-traditioinal "syncro-sun" are a cheap shot; a naive example of how to use light--this light or any other. Making images is all about using light creatively. Some know how to use light better than others. This small light is a terrific way to add depth to subjects, without over-lighting them.
