Chickens are just one unlucky animals

Let me clarify something here....I had to see this video twice, first to view the process, second to view in slow motion how this facility processes chickens. Now, I own a small full service poultry farm in the US. I only have 4 acres. My farm process birds a few at a time. My birds continue to remain cage free, but all my birds roam in fenced compounds, they have the liberty to come in and out of their nesting coup freely. NO bird is mistreated, has shelter out of the weather, well fed and at all times have plenty of water available all day long. Now, birds you have seen on this video are mistreated by cramming them into closed cages for transport, and I never viewed one drop of water available to them at all! These birds look very stressed, injured, and weak! I fully understand the commercial process method, monetary and bulk processing, and understand comments generated. As I stated, my methods of processing is more gentle, respect of the bird about to give up their life to feed your family! There even is a prayer said over the held birds, and they are detained one by one to the hugging cones, where the bleed out procedure tskes place. Hugging cones calm the bird, and the bleeding process is quick and painless. This takes time before they reach the scalder! The bleedout must allow the body to fully stop seizing before they hit the scalder! I did not see this on the video, I did see birds who were not fully stunned, and this Co2 method just suffocates the birds, and that is cruel and improper bird killing! Please do not criticize private processing methods, we have respect of the birds, Commercial processors do not! Thanks for reading!

Had chickens as pets most of my life, they are not the dumb, characterless animals people make them out to be. Watching this is really difficult.

God this is painful to watch, we humans should be glad we are the top of the food chain and not some product made for another species to eat

Taking into consideration the high demand of chicken, it’s only natural that things can go wrong when done on such a massive scale. The process makes an effort in minimizing cruelty through electrocution since it’s likely the most efficient way of getting most of the chickens unconscious. The scale of production simply doesn’t allow it to be perfect. However, it can absolutely be worse and it’s good that efforts are made

I hope the slaughterhouses are working to continuously improve their processing by reducing the stress of the birds. For example, a bar a half inch above the electrified water could ensure every bird is stunned (or not ... they're the experts).

As someone who has had pet chickens, this video made me sad and disgusted. I don’t know how people that butcher and process without feeling awful about the horrific inhuman treatment. Chickens have emotions; they can feel excitement, love, sadness, fear.

This is true. I knew a guy that used to work for Tyson and he described this exact system. He also told me that the chickens that are scalded alive are called red birds of how they look if they are not bled out before the scalding takes place.

I feel sad for the chickens that were conscious through out this process, a very informative video !

@ Jeff Corn company. Only a person who values a life would understand. Life doesn’t mean just ours and our near and dear ones. We grieve if there is a bereavement amongst our people. But to be able to feel the pain of sentient beings is a higher level of evolution. Yes. Our lives are also short in the scheme of Nature. Today, you ( figuratively speaking) don’t feel about these innocent souls. Tomorrow, when you are longer part of the sentient world, you will be fodder to all sorts of creatures. Nature knows how to take in the same way as you take. My appeal is please let these helpless and defenceless souls be left to lead their lives as Nature intended. It’s a matter of controlling our taste buds. Vegetables and other plant products are equally good. Thank you.

I’m a nurse and have worked at a Turkey plant in the medical office for 9 years. I do the hearing tests and physicals, assess injuries that workers have sustained, etc.... But to do my job right, I also have to know what the plant jobs entail. I have seen and assisted in every job in my plant. It helps me to recognize how serious wounds may be according to the department. For instance, if someone tells me a worker was injured in boning, I know there is a high likelihood that the person cut themselves with a boning knife. If someone tells me a worker was injured in feathering, I know there is a high likelihood that the person is suffering from a burn. This helps me to triage everyone appropriately and tend to the most severe injuries first or simply notify EMS. I will say that EVIS (evisceration - where birds are killed and gutted) is the worst. Because those who work EVIS long term have been known to exhibit poor mental health, going as far as having thoughts of harming other people. I’ve sent my fair share of people to a psychiatric center. It’s rough. I love my job, but I feel for those on the production floor. At least 85% are immigrants with an expired status so most won’t turn in an injury so as not to draw attention to themselves. It’s heartbreaking.

I love the chicken meat and eggs, but this isn’t how it should it be done. I live near farmers who have some chickens, but mainly focus on cows. Their sheds are linked to outdoor pastures, giving them plenty of life. That’s the bear minimum of how it should be done.

Apart from the general cruelty of the process and the meat industry in general, it beats me why are they using carbon dioxide to suffocate the chickens? Even if they don't care about their suffering, it releases a huge amount of hormones into their bloodstream and meat which significantly alters the quality of the meat. If they used nitrogen, it'd kill them quicker and without a panic, and nitrogen is even cheaper.

Aliens be like :- write it down write it down we will try this with humans 😋

No wonder feral chicken tastes better than store bought.

I'm carnivore but this is cruel, we should respect animals, they provide for us, they keep us healthy, and they are loving animals too, no creatures deserve to be treated like this

Being an organic farmer, the killing has never become easy for me. I don’t know how humane our methods are, we just do our best to make sure their is no suffering. Chickens are the hardest due to the volume / work load. We use the cone and slice both arteries in the neck.

All my life I enjoyed eating chicken, though I regreted doing it so many times. Every day seeing them inside the cages carrying them to the local slaughter shops, being kept inside a cage which doesn't protect them from the scorching sun and the chilling rains while we continue sitting inside an air-conditioned restaurant waiting for them to arrive at our table for dinner. Finally It was time for me to decide that I won't have them in my plate. I can only Hope that more people would turn compassionate towards these poor animals and birds in the comming years and we can have a world where love and peace prevails.

My family has 4 chickens and we make sure that they happy and safe and I’m so glad my step dad bought them before they fell into the wrong hands

I make sure mine are happy, with fancy flowerbeds, ponds, fountains ,and treats everyday. they may not be the happiest birds on the planet, but they are close to it.

I came here to get info for an English project but ended feeling real bad regarding chicken's fate 😭😭😭

@@Rattyfromtc Slow down what you do? Mentally or physically? Because it doesn’t make you slow. Search up the benefits on google. I will say there is cons to being vegan such as lacking vitamins. But you can find ways to supplement them. I became vegan as a joke but ended up liking it. Veganism doesn’t necessarily mean eating veggies all the time. You can be an unhealthy vegan though it is not recommended. Also things like honey, palm oil or even sugar are vegan but some people are strict enough to say it’s not. It’s dumb because you can say water isn’t vegan due to it belonging to the fishes.

@@cpmg4844 I recently learned in my IB class about palm oil. I think some vegans don’t eat it because of how it is sourced please look into it it’s awful it’s causing deforestation and destroying the habitats of endangered species such as orangutans all because it is greatly demanded and is in almost all food even Oreo cookies

@@cpmg4844 I really do think to what purpose you are vegan for example some are vegan because it’s more sustainable and good for the earth while others it’s for animal mistreatment and others just for the benefits sadly

This is the most distressing, disturbing yet most powerful video i have seen in a long time. I am a vegetarian and this only reinforces the choice I made long time ago. Thank you

I worked on a chicken farm in Arkansas during rehab. They sent us in with STICKS to kill a house full of turkeys. We literally had to kill them with sticks or go to prison. My heart has never recovered:'(

we can survive without killing animals and satisfy our needs by a plant based diet. Animals like lion and tigers do it out of sheer necessity, they can't be vegans even if they wanted.

The way he described how the chickens get killed is like describing how a human being is being murdered.

They are not "fully conscious" after their throat is cut. Animals often will still move after death for a short time. You can chop off a chickens head and it will move around quite a bit.

@@nara5074 I own chickens, when we slaughter them (completely cutting their heads off with a machete), they flop around. I am also a hunter, even when animals are dead, they move because their muscles are releasing the energy that is stored in them.

So if they are electrocuted correctly how much pain do they feel?

This makes me cry that they have to go through all this at like 7 weeks to 18months I’m just glad that I got to have 18 lucky chickens in my life that we had for how many years.

Yes, I do intact search this up every once in a while. For I want to learn about how animals get eaten, and made for delicious dinner for us. 🤤 as if chickens are a unlimited resource, being bred and feed for how long. As it rests in my tummy, fully digested, about to meet its maker. The toilet.
