First of all Michael, I found your youtube channel one day as I am a guitarist and your channel is great. Thank you for doing what you do. Let me tell you when I heard this song it just brought me to tears as I am not great at expressing myself in words which is probably why I play guitar but this song really spoke to me. I just wanted to thank you both for your videos and the song and thank you for the explanation Travis.

Been in music for over 25yrs and I don't ever recall a song move me the way Sideways does. It's a lyrical masterpiece. So many lines that make you pause the music and contemplate what you as the song writer are expressing to us. It's incredible man. It really is. Like many, I found you through Palmisano's channel and I'm so glad I did. Looking forward to going through your music and enjoying. God bless you on your recovery Travis. Now I'm going watch your hour-long interview with Michael...lol.

I am a single father of an 11-year old boy and I have struggled with alcoholism and addiction pretty much all my adult life. I am a self-employed, one-man acoustic show. In the last 4 years, I have lost a daughter-in-law to addiction (at 22 years old), caught my wife in bed with another man so I packed up myself and our son and moved to another town, and then last October I lost my mother to Covid. It's been rough. I spend many nights in my recliner falling asleep to KZread. One time I woke up to the Michael Palmisano video of him reviewing "Sideways". I cried like a baby. You sir are an AMAZING songwriter and now I try to catch all the Travis Meadows media I can. I perform "Sideways" regularly now. It's just the kind of therapy I needed. Thank you, sir! Please come to Iowa and put on a show! Johnny Whicker, Oskaloosa, IA.

Sideways is just about the most genuine musical take I've heard concerning the pains of repressed and suppressed emotions. Everyone can relate to the subject but it is distinctly significant for individuals recovering from trauma and/or substance abuse. Your will to self-disclose sharpens the sincerity and intensity. It's masterful songwriting and self-reflection. I hope music is harboring you during these current obstacles. Old Ghosts is another poignant song. I'd love to learn the backdrop for that one. Be well, Travis!

I sent the song to my dad and said I think you should listen to this. Every lyric in that song hit him hard. He's in his 60s now and has had... a life, Of trouble and hardship. And his reply broke my heart. He said. "I need you to play that at my funeral, Because it says sorry to everyone better than I could" So thank you Travis, From us both.

I just found you through this song, Sideways. I fell in love with your voice and these lyrics and the melody, Instantly! It inspired me to pick up the guitar again in which I have not done in 15 years. This song spoke to me so deeply to my present situation, the things I've been pressing down for years have been coming out in not so pleasant ways. Overwhelming at times. The bitter roads have become highways in in my life and I want to get off this path. I'm working on it. And playing the guitar again has been healing too. So thank you for being you! I pray you heal and I can see you live somewhere.

Thank you. I struggle to articulate my feelings, and in 4 sentences you explained my relationship with my father perfectly.

I am so happy to have had you play at my home from House Concerts. Long after you and your dog (can't remember the name) left, I was a huge fan. I hope all the people I introduced you to them are still followers. Prayers and Love to you.

Travis, thanks for making this. I found you when I was learning 'Better Boat' (Chesney's version) and fell in love with you, Brother. Then when Michael Palmisano did his react video (I hadn't heard this song yet), I broke down and cried. Showed my wife, cried again; knew I had to learn it and put it in my shows. I still can't get through the 'father' line yet without breaking down. Such a beautiful song. And I'm sorry to hear about your surgery issues. I had back surgery a decade ago and had complications myself. I feel for ya. Thank you again for making this. Love your songs, my friend.

I can't stop listening to sideways ever since I heard it . The line about your dad being the only man to break your heart gets me Everytime. Much Love and Respect , Travis.

I found your music via that video. I had never heard of him or you before that day. I immediately ordered that album and Sideways has been on loop in my head since. I cried the first time I heard it. I am like how the heck did this guy write a sing about my life. Litterly the first line to the last. There's so much deep subject matter in that song. From the buying a new conscious, to locking doors you wished you didn't open, to unlearning the things you wish you never knew, to the father line, the roads turning into highways! WOW! ALL OF IT! It's my all time favorite song! Even the chorus. Push it down it comes out sideways. How many times have my arms grabbed for drugs and alcohol to knumb the pain that I push down and refuse to realese. How many times do I reach out sideways for money and things to try to fill this God sized hole in my soul that only filled by Him. It's releasing this unforgivness, guilt, pain, shame... The song has Biblical truth. Pushing down these things inside of us instead of giving it up to God and letting Him handle wrongs that have happened to you. And remembering all the times you wronged someone else. Even me being worse of a Father than my own in certain arenas. I was alienated from my first two kids and have no relationship still to this day but I want one. And I also suffered from addictions although different ones than my father. We all hold our parents up on a pedalstool and then we screw up just as bad. I can't believe you aren't bigger than you are. To me you are almost as good of a singer as Chris Stapletion (it's hard to beat his voice) BUT the lyrics are better. I don't wanna hear songs about whiskey anymore, I want to stay sober. Yours and his are the only albumns I have bought since the 90's. Great work! I hope you get better soon! You gained a fan!

I appreciate the guidance of walking away from an idea and coming back to it later… I’ve been writing a song over the past two weeks.. I love the hook, love the 1st verse… but I’m stuck on the second verse… I keep coming back to it… because it seems like this song really has potential. I’m sure you’ve been there..
