You don't simply MOVE ON when the Japanese government is still insulting the sex slaves by saying that 'they went into it to get money' when in reality they tricked them into the job, and even denying it. This is why Asian Americans will never be seen as 'one of us' by Asians in Asia.

Whats funny is that Korean media used to obsessively claim Ichiro was ethnically Korean until he flat out denied it to their reporters lol. This was before the 2006 WBC and this somehow angered the Koreans and spun it around as some sort of “nationalistic” answer from Ichiro. Ichiro was always annoyed by reporters in his younger days and this is what kind of started his beef with Korea lol Same thing happened with Japanese soccer players Hidetoshi Nakata and Shunsuke Nakamura. Once they have somewhat of a successful career overseas, Korean media jumps on it and starts claiming they’re ethnically Korean or something 😂

However, that era has passed, and we’re now entering a new phase-a time defined by Shohei Ohtani, a figure who brings Japan and Korea together through a shared love for baseball. Ohtani's all about breaking down those old barriers and misunderstandings by treating all his fans with respect, no matter where they're from. I'm super excited to see what this new vibe between the Japanese and Korean MZ generations will bring. It's looking like it'll be way cooler and more positive than what we've seen before.😊

My understanding of the Ichiro stuff comes from comments he made during the 2006 WBC, where he said something along the lines of "he wants to beat Korea so badly that they won't ever think of themselves as equal to Japan in 1000 years" or something like that. Korean fans and players took the comments as imperialistic, and Korea beat Japan twice in that series so they even planted the Korean flag on the mound as a symbol of their claimed ownership of the Liancourt Rocks. Japan eventually won the elimination game against Korea though. Having said that, I think the comments were blown a bit out of proportion, he was saying that in the context of baseball. Jung Hoo Lee grew up idolizing Ichiro - wears his jersey number, stylized his hitting after him - and even met him recently during spring training and got to pick his brain a bit.

The second korean to make pro in a world class league (cha bum kun played in the 1980s in the german soccer league). I recall seeing a comedy sketch show in korean TV about park and the dodgers team. Like a korean with a wig played mike piazza. Park (#61) was teammates with a japanese player in the dodger, hideo nomo (#16). Park stated at first he avoided contact with nomo. I'm not sure if park knew how to act with a japanese teammate. Tensions between korea and Japan were way worse back then. Korea had a ban on all japanese media/entertainment until the early 2000s and treated zainichi like second class citizens. Eventually park and nomo learned to cooperate even help eachother. I am Japanese and was born in the same generation as Ohtani. Our generation doesn't harbor much animosity towards Korea. I enjoy Korean music and think their dramas are fantastic. I also like kimchi because it can be prepared in various ways. However, there are aspects I dislike. One is their obsession with history. Whenever I see comments, Koreans always bring up the era when Japan ruled Korea. Of course, I understand their sentiments. Japanese might have done cruel things, and many people may have been hurt. But I want to say, "I don't know about that." It's well-known that Japanese students don't learn much about WWII in detail. It might not be good, but please don't be angry. Koreans study much more about it than we do. For example, they say, "Japan committed such and such atrocities in the year XX at XX place." But it's not in the textbooks I studied from. And when I tell them I don't know, they say, "The one who forgets history is doomed to perish." It's true that in Korean textbooks, about one-third is dedicated to the period when Korea was under Japanese rule, whereas Japanese students only study that part for one page. If you doubt it, please research the differences in history textbooks between Japan and Korea on KZread. It's no wonder Japanese people don't know much about history. Do we have to know every detail of our ancestors' battles? And secondly, they claim everything is Korean, like seas and islands. Politicians from both Japan and Korea attach importance to such terminology and ownership. And ultimately, they start saying Japanese are Koreans. I'm just baffled by that. Of course, people from different regions came together to form Japan, but they want to claim it based on ancient history with no evidence. It seems like nothing has changed. They even say "Shohei Ohtani is Korean." Sure, there are Korean baseball players in Japan, but just because someone is tall, are they Korean? If you say that, they'll just bring up history again. It's endless.Of course, learning history is important. Not only can we learn from the good aspects, but also from mistakes and failures. By studying history, we can steer the future in a positive direction. However, harboring hatred or resentment from past history is meaningless. That's very unhealthy. It's like talking to a hysterical woman who won't listen to reason. They have many good qualities, but when it comes to history, it's impossible to deal with them. The war is over. Let's get along.

Thank you for the post, I rarely see japanese talk openly and in English about tensions with south korea. I was born in seoul, but I grew up in usa so I never knew anti japanese feelings until I was an adult. I didnt even know my grandmother spoke fluent japanese until i was in my 30s. I agree with japanese on some points and korean on others. Like the "sea of japan" on maps I think should not be called "east sea" there are many seas in the east. I think dokdo (takeshima) is korean and the ROK military occupy it but it's not useful. I never seen a japanese care about dokdo. And koreans also lie about their history as well. There were many koreans in the japanese imperial military, including my grandfather, park chung hee (the greatest South korean president ever). American soldiers recall that korean soldiers in the japanese military were more brutal because they were desperate to prove to japanese how devoted they were. Also koreans in the Vietnam war did some of the same war crimes they complain japanese did. I am in germany now with the US army. Germany is the opposite of japan when it comes to teaching history of ww2. I still agree japan should teach history accurately, but Germans today go too far. There is shame and open guilt I see from the german people usually. "White guilt" so they have to let all these migrants in their country; they have way too many black men in their commercials even when there are not many black people in germany; I talk to german soldiers and they never get support from the public... all this because some might accuse them of being nazi-like. I don't think this kind of ww2 generation guilt is good for germany or japan, although teaching history accurately is important.

@@vaccinatedanti-vaxxer I am honored to receive a message from the grandson of a great president. apologize for my poor English, but please bear with me. In my opinion, there is a dilemma in history education affecting the relationship between Japan and South Korea. Japan underwent educational reforms after its defeat in World War II with the aim of weakening its previous militaristic stance. I have heard that not only the Japanese government but also the American GHQ actively improved post-war education to promote non-militarism. When I was a student, I learned very little about Japan's occupation of Korea, leading to a lack of historical understanding. However, it seems that in South Korea, students learn extensively about Japan's actions. This inequality makes it difficult for us to have equal discussions about history with our Korean counterparts. Have you ever watched the anime "Attack on Titan"? While the creator didn't make it for political purposes, there's a scene where Gabi and Kaya argue that's relevant. I understand both perspectives: those burdened by a violent past, those unaware of it, those demanding continued apologies, and those denying responsibility for sins of the past. This is just my opinion, but I don't mind whether islands or seas are named one way or another. If it's called the Japan Sea when I was born, it's fine, and if it's called the East Sea in Korea, that's fine too. But it should have one of the two names. Some people want to decide that islands belong to one territory or the other. I think Germans have had excellent education. Accepting history isn't easy. While Japanese may summarize wars in a page, I believe Germans have thoroughly studied the history of war. However, are they descendants of criminals? Were all Germans once ruthless? When will we Japanese stop being seen as descendants of aggressors? How long must we be seen as a nation associated with war and aggression, even though militaristic ideologies are rare in Japan now? I understand why Koreans may dislike Japanese. The past militaristic Japan with its brutal ideologies deserves such condemnation. However, I want them to know that present-day Japanese are not the same.

"denazification" enabled germany to restore its full trust and acceptance into the international community. relation with its neighbores turned from hostility to friendship and enabled unification, economicly and diplomaticly (EU) and even militarily (NATO). @@vaccinatedanti-vaxxer Hey bro, this is the reality. We Japanese are disliked because we don't learn history. Sure, if it were in the textbooks, maybe we'd study hard for the tests, but unfortunately, the class ends after just one page. And believe it or not, the name of Korea isn't even mentioned. It's not like it's being hidden, but it's not essential to learn, so Korean topics might be in supplementary materials, but just a tiny part of it. However, it is difficult for me, as an adult, to learn the things that Koreans learned when they were students. It is equally difficult to accept that history. I honestly don't think I want to know about the bad things my country has done in other countries. very sorry. Here's a comment from a Korean on this video: "look at these comments from the Japanese. Japanese are always jealous and have huge inferiority complex towards Koreans and obsessed with Korea. Come to Korea most of Koreans rly don’t care about Japan or Japanese people. And Koreans never said Ohtani is a Korean it was from the Japanese netizens." There might be some Japanese who feel that way, but jealousy and obsession are very rare. We're like, "Why are you so angry?" But I get why he's angry. We're always fighting over past events and never discuss the present. It never ends. If the government changes, the education curriculum might change too. Maybe Japan has been getting its history curriculum wrong for decades. But unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they're planning to change it now. So, maybe this is an eternal issue for Japanese people. We're in debt. We have debts from the economic bubble, and debts from history too. Our ancestors did some unnecessary things. But the younger generation now likes Korea. It feels like Korea is trending in Japan. So, I think that guy's comment reflects the image of older generation Japanese. I've been listening to Korean music since high school. Like TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, BTS, etc. But around 2012, there was suddenly the Takeshima/Dokdo issue, and the atmosphere became confrontational again. That was unfortunate. But recently, I feel like relations are good. The question of history is a different story. haha. If you ever meet a Japanese person, try asking them about history. I doubt they know much. And I hope you'll visit Japan someday. Recommended spots would be Tsukiji, Asakusa, Shibuya, and Okubo for sightseeing. Lastly, sorry for not knowing about history. If I knew about old Japan like you guys, maybe I could understand their suffering. And I apologize to those who suffered because of Japan. I don't know the details, but they might have done cruel things. Not knowing doesn't excuse not apologizing, I think. I apologize to you instead. I wish you a wonderful life now and in the future, from Japan.

@shingovlog9270 I am not the grandson of park chung hee, his daughter was president ten years ago, the only female korean president. I was saying my grandfather was also in the japanese military, he was in Siberia Russia when ww2 ended. My aunt said he never saw combat during that time and he was a student in Waseda before the military. Park chung hee was from a poor family but he excelled in the japanese military academy. He even became an officer of one of Japan's most elite units in Manchuria. His japanese name was masao tigaki. His military experience saved his life. He was in prison by the first korean president, Rhee as a traitor to south korea. But when the korean war began, the south korean government decide to use his military expertise. He went up the ranks in the korean military after the war and in 1961, he took over the south korean government in a coup. He is responsible for south koreas economic success and normalized relations with japan with the San Francisco treaty. It was the first time japan had recognized south korea as the rightful ruler of the whole korean peninsula. If you're curious about what korea looked like under japanese rule. There's one film that survived called 벙정님 (1944), available on KZread. It's pro japanese military properganda movie filmed in seoul at the old japanese military base. The location of the movie is now the US army base yongsan. If you heard of itaewon in seoul (where 160 people died in Halloween 2 years ago) its there. USAG yongsan was a big base in seoul, and Americans made that area outside the base into a big cultural and night life center in seoul. But before 1945, it was a Japanese military base. the japanese general governor (the real leader of korea from 1910 to 1945) had his home there. He secured loans to start economic reforms from Japan, and from usa by participating in vietnam war. Without park chung hee, south korea would be more like north korea or Mongolia today. The name for seoul back then was "keijo". Even maps from America and Europe called seoul by its japanese name. Most koreans that were upper middle class learned japanese in seoul and had a japanese name. In public offices, japanese had to be spoken. The japanese rulers contradict how they see koreans. On one hand, japan modernized korea. The first rail roads, airports, police, fire departments, public schools were modeled from Japan. Korean schools even wore the japanese style school uniforms until the early 1990s. Japan even gave koreans japanese citizenship for one year. Japan understanding was Taiwanese were Chinese, but koreans didn't fit into Chinese category. They thought of korean culture as inferior to japanese. So japan tried to make koreans into japanese. This is why korea banned japanese media until early 2000s. And why old koreans find it offensive if they are mistaken for japanese. Koreans died and fought to not become japanese. I am not sure if the Ainu or Okinawa people had similar forced assimilation experience or not. Japan forced 5.4 million koreans to help ww2 efforts. The zainichi (koreans that lived in japan for generations) until the 1990s were treated poorly. Many had a hard time making a living and so some joined the yakuza. I think still there are some japanese that still see koreans as poor, backwards, inferior people that can never be like japanese. However I do agree there are much more korean lovers in japan and japanese lovers in Korea. In recent years, China is the number one hated country in South korea. Japan was number one for many generations.

Okay I will bite on this one.... @FUNG BROS. The Japanese and Korean relationship is the relationship of separated conjoined twins with polar opposite inner personalities. One is hot headed and the other is cold and calculated. Both Korea and Japan have the Three Korean Kingdoms and the Gaya Confederacy inside of them. The Japanese are called the land of the rising sun. But Baekje Korea was called the land of the rising sun before Japan was ever called land of the rising sun how is this so? Because the Baekje Korean Kingdom fled to Japan after their defeat to a Silla Korea-Tang China alliance. Thus when they were fully exiled the name of "Nihon" which was Korean, was then given to what was then known as Wa and Yamato Japan and from here on out Wa and Yamato Japan becomes "Nihon" (Japan) to present day. The Yamato clan is from the exact same Korean family as the Baekje Korean exiles, Japan was their colony and the Japanese national anthem is sung in Yamato clan poetry thus the Japanese anthem is sung in ancient Korean. This is no different than how America was a colony of the British. Except, in this you would swap the name American for Japanese and British for Korean. To make the relationship even more complex and intertwined and it just so happens to be this way: North Korea's main leading Korean Kingdom is Goguryeo which unified the peninsula under the name of Goryeo (where the name Korea comes from). In Japanese Goguryeo is known as Koma or Kokuri. The North Korean kingdom of Goguryeo collapsed shortly after the Baekje Koreans were defeated and many of them became refugees in Japan. If you go to Japan today, there is a shrine in Saitama called "Koma" Shrine. Goguryeo Shrine. It is ancient and holds ancient Korean relics from Northern Korea. Goguryeo's capital was in the Pyongyang area the same capital as North Korea today. South Korea's main leading Korean Kingdom is Silla which unified the peninsula under the name of Unified Silla, they did this with the help of the Tang Chinese. The Silla Korean Kingdom is based out of South East Korea. Japan's main leading Korean Kingdom is Baekje Korea which did not unify the Korean peninsula it fled to Wa Japan, which was already it's colony at the time with rulers of Wa Japan coming from Baekje Korea. This is known as the Outer and Inner Kingdom. The Outer Kingdom is Baekje it was in charge of foreign policy and trade and the Inner Kingdom was Wa Japan. The most prominent Japanese clan of Yamato is from Baekje Korea. This is where it gets more complex. The Japanese Imperial family is tied to Baekje Korea and thus the Japanese occupation of Korea and War crimes in China can be seen as Baekje Korea's revenge on the Silla-Tang alliance. Keep in mind that Japan is composed of Korean refugees from Baekje and Goguryeo and toraijin crossovers from Silla. So in this sense Japan is a unified Korea as well. Koreans from Baekje and Silla also gave Japan it's ninjutsu arts. The most notable clans are the Soga clan from Baekje and the Hata Clan from Silla. Baekje Korea is located in Southwest Korea and at one point extended into northern korea above the 38th parallel and had it's capital in the area of Seoul today. But Silla betrayed Baekje who they had an alliance with against Goguryeo and Silla took the area known as Seoul today. Thus Baekje had to retreat. However keep in mind this entire time, Baekje has an alliance with Wa. Which means if Shilla did not betray Baekje. The Shilla Baekje alliance would have made South Korea and Japan one country. But Baekje was betrayed so they fled to Japan and having close ties to the royalty they wrote the Nihon Shoki. The tale about "their" own country that they always lived in called "Japan". Which scholars know Nihon Shoki is very mythical with some historical basis. It is from here that Baekje cuts off their Korean heritage and becomes Japanese. The Japanese word for Baekje is "Kudara" which means insignificant. All of the Korean kingdoms and Japan also have some form of the Gaya confederacy in them which was not a kingdom but a Korean confederacy that specialized in iron works. So the empire of the rising sun which was Baekje would later become Japan and attack Korea, which Silla's flag is the emblem of the crescent moon (not Islamic) in the half day. The empire of the sun would attack the empire of the Moon and subdue it and ironically unify the peninsula just like the other two kingdoms that did the same. Baekje (Nihon) would repeat these attacks up to and during World War 2 for their loss of the old kingdom. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Silla en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rising_Sun_Flag Which is interesting because after WW2 and the Japanese are defeated. North and South Korea split again and you have the Three Kingdoms again and you have Tang China again and Again you have the Baekje (Nihon/Japan) Silla (South Korea) Alliance against Goguryeo (North Korea: as a side note North Korea was ALWAYS militaristic, this is where the samurai armor of Japan comes from and the Tori gate of Japan comes from ⛩ the samurai sword comes from Baekje and Gaya ) but this time if no one betrays anyone and we can finally trust each other, then both South Korea and Japan have much to gain but now there is a clear distinction between Korea and Japan as separate entities and not conjoined twins. There is an anomaly here though seeing as Tang (China) is allied with Goguryeo (North Korea) which has never happened in ancient history so now Goguryeo is acting like ancient Silla. So as the current situation stands, history is kind of repeating itself but like flipped reverse mirror image from the perspective of the three Korean Kingdoms. A South Korea Japan alliance is formed to fight the North Koreans and China. Another thing to note that, even though the royals of Japan know their Korean heritage the Korean heritage of the Japanese is downplayed in order to boost Japanese nationalism so the Japanese are lied to and told that they were always Japanese and always Jomon and Korea has almost nothing to do with them but nothing could be further from the truth. Furthermore the DNA composition demonstrates that the Japanese are 90 percentile Korean in comparison to 10% Jomon at best. You can google both studies from China and Japan. Ancient Korean sounds more like Japanese because it is Korean with no Chinese or Tang influence. Koreans to this day will joke that Japanese sounds more Korean than Korean. This is what ancient Baekje Korean (Nihon) Kudara language sounds like. Does it sound like Japanese? Because they are the ones WHO BUILT JAPAN! The temples in Kyoto, the castles, the aesthetics.....it's Baekje Korean style either brought over straight from Baekje Korean artisans or taught by Baekje Korean artisans. kzread.info/dash/bejne/kYOt27KkmbWolqQ.html I could go on more about this but I will leave you with these two. Is this Korea or Japan? Baekje or Asakusa? The land of the Rising Sun? kzread.info/dash/bejne/pamEyqqqpNmXndY.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWego9hxdtvAfLQ.html 🤷‍♂ The Japanese records on the Koreans who are in the Japanese royal bloodline, from all three Kingdoms of Korea and Gaya. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinsen_Sh%C5%8Djiroku So all of these Koreans have tried in one way or another to unify the Korean peninsula unsuccessfully. If you look at it from a broader historical view. From a narrow view, they are separate countries with separate history who despise each other. I just see us as twins with sibling rivalry, like any other family member. Shohei Ohtani is a tiny piece of this relationship in comparison to a much broader picture. I could go on about the modern relationship but I would have to make another long drawn out lengthy post with more examples. Anyway, it's fascinating to say the least and to make it more interesting most if not all of the history is kept in Chinese records and Kanji which was Chinese taught to Japan by Baekje. The politeness of the Japanese and the practice of seppuku also comes from Baekje Korea the Yamato people. I hope this brings more clarity to what is really happening here and why we are so close to Japan and yet so far. Japan is called the closest to Korea and also the furthest for a reason.

Here is how the Japanese see themselves as being from Baekje Korea, you can see that they don't consider themselves Korean but will acknowledge they come from Korea... in their minds they were always Nihon Japanese but that's why Nihon was originally called Nihon in Korea first and then Japan was called Nihon second... (ㅋㅅㅋ ;) So honestly the Korean relationship is used at times to get close to Japan and at other times separate from Japan for both countries. kzread.info/dash/bejne/m2hpt5edkqqtiqQ.html

I recall Japan’s ex-emperor said his family bloodlines are from the Korean dynasties. There used to be 3 kingdoms in Korea a long time ago, and all combined land sizes are estimated to multiple times bigger than the combined North Korea & South Korea After each kingdom collapsed, its royal families are rumored to arrive in Japan. Introducing languages and cultures. That’s why Korean and Japanese have the same grammar structure: subject + object + verb At least the current Japan’s royal bloodlines seem to be true descendants of the lost kingdoms This may play out interestingly when Russia & China lose control in the northern parts of current North Korea. Those lands used to belong to the Korean dynasties Anyone strongly deny such possibility…should look into the history in Europe. For example, France was ruled by a foreign king. Not just once. How about the last dynasty in China? The royal bloodlines were not from Han Chinese. But I’m sure CCP wiped out all historical records during the Cultural Revolution

The issue has always been with Japan, not South Korea. If anything, South Koreans, have a right to hold a grudge against the Japanese but South Koreans have consistently offered an olive branch but it is the Japanese that have always slapped the hand away, e.g. Ichiro. If Japan does not want brotherhood, that's their issue to fix. South Korea can only do so much.
