@@paradise9151 in terms of finance anybody can be rich and successful, man or woman. Hence why I believe it’s wrong to spoil your daughters but forget your sons. It’s true men fight battles women don’t and that is correct, however they should still be treated equally.

@@paradise9151 you missed my point. Read my comment again. I said “treat them equally” meaning you treat them like all of your other children. @@paradise9151 how is it different for women? That makes absolutely no sense. What if a woman wants a career? What if she wants to live her life? If she wants to be a business owner or maybe a doctor or dentist then she has to be smart and work hard. It’s the same for women, just easier jobs, but requires the same amount of work. Your daughter needs to be intelligent, independent, strong, and hard working. Not everything is handed to a woman as well. She also needs discipline or else she’ll be a brainless dummy.

I am from India, saw some shorts of Shaq, googled and found he is a basketball player. I watched many Hollywood movies, The family concept is very highly rated in movies. But when I see actual practice in US, kicking children out of home after 18 is proudly shared. Even families are largely broken, divorce is so common. In India, supporting your children even in their thirties or forties is common. If required, good earning members support their parents too, even close friends or domestic help. I am 50+ and earning well in my job. During COVID when lots of people were dying and some during performing essential duties declared by the government, my 80+ mother called me to leave my job and not to risk life. She told me that we have enough to feed ourselves and leave the city, move to farm house (my father is a farmer). These values or bonds are much more important than money you make, success is not about money.

It all depend how they raise you. Some boys are ready by 18. He must have raised them that way for him to let them be independent by 18 he is not going to let them have whatever they want then suddenly say "bye" on their 18th birthday and tbh this is realistic. Men are meant to be the head of the household and it is recommended and very natural for them to want to start their own life and be the head of their own homes. Or else a bunch of head in one home will create a monster so encouraging boys to start their own life is best choice I agree with him on that part.

Shaq is partially joking about this. I know one of his sons and one of his daughters is committed to Texas Southern. The daughter is one of the top 5 female basketball players in her class but she turned down an offer from LSU to go to a HBC to be closer with her brother which says a lot about that family. I used to tease my daughter and say I’m going to spoil you so much no other man would put up with you so you’ll stay home with your Dad that loves you so much he never wants you to move out. It’s harder to let them go but we do but as a father I get what he’s saying. (I still get choked up remembering the day my little angel left for college).

My parents literally kicked me out as soon as I graduated. I was just a kid .. no car.. no job and was undecided on which career path i should take but i was very disciplined in my studies just didn't have the funds to get into college..i crashed at my friend's house for about two months and eventually went homeless. Just me and my backpack . I tried getting a job at various local stores with no success . Most establishments requested prior " experience" for some what simples roles .. i survived for 7 months and 10 days sleeping on the streets, i would get through my days on kind souls donating snacks , beverages and sometimes new clothes . I called my parents various times pleading to go back and that i would do anything for a hot bath and a warm bed , they asked if i had a job and when i would say no they would hang up. A person who had 2 period math class in highschool noticed me in my homeless state with a handful of curriculums. He was shocked when he found out that it was me and immediately offered me shelter . I had dinner with him and his family, his wife had put down a hot meal for me and i remember just breaking down crying because I hadn't had a real meal in almost a year of being homeless. Fast forward a couple years and i am now working for my friend as a computer assistant, pretty much cleaning PCs and managing hardware issues. I don't not have a car , i ride a bike to work and i now live in a small one room, one bath apartment . It's not much but i now have a warm bed to rest , hot water and food in my fridge. Ps: sorry for the long text, just wanted to relate my experience about parents kicking their children out at the age of 18.

Got an Asian dad who taught us to be an independent woman but he was changing his mind the more we sisters grew up. Said we should dress up more, take care of ourselves, be more girly, have you got a boyfriend yet, said men don't like women that are too this and that, etc. We fought a lot and it was really toxic for a while. Then suddenly he got Guillane Bare Syndrome, he's still fine in the morning and suddenly paralyzed from neck down by night. My sister and I took over our family's business while taking turns in caring for him too. He had a huge debt and business was not doing great. Somehow we pulled through. Paid his huge medical bill because insurance wouldn't cover rare disease, paid off his debts and mortgage on his effing second home just in time before 2020 pandemic, and took care of our extended families. Time has changed, equip your children equally with skills to survive. I know that most men take great pride in being a provider, but who knows what the future hold? Had I measure myself with traditional Asian yardstick I wouldn't have been able to help my family out of bankruptcy.

My moms mom had 9 kids. At the age of 18 they had to be out the house, most went in the military and the others married to get out the house. My mom said she'll never do that to her six kids. She wanted us to always have somewhere to go. My dad was abusive and she couldnt leave bc she had nowhwere to go. We left with nothing but we made it.We all grown and doing absolutely great with no help from her. We do for her.

There are many ways to teach self reliance. This is one way, not the only way. Quid pro quo is the way. He’s there to help not to carry. Prove you’re worth your father investing in you. His kids have a ton of opportunity but they need to capitalize on it with their own actions and their own drive to succeed. Right message.

If u raised your kids successfully they’ll walk out on their own or they’ll be successful and simply want to stay near you. The truth is almost all, if not all children, that get kicked out are the ones parents see as failures and decide not to raise any further.
