    Cree Indians: “When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money.” It’s because we live in a system based off monetary values. Understand we are already doomed but that’s okay when you know death isn’t just an end but a beginning also. The soul never dies and body’s are just vessels on borrowed time for the universe. Do good and I believe you’ll be rewarded. Be hopeful even when others and circumstances will tell you otherwise not to be. Love and appreciate life everyday as much as you possibly can.

COVID-19 didn't surprise us as a family, just annoyed the hell out of us, and the way everyone now acts like it's gone and will never happen again is a little scary. Hey dude, speaking as a climate PhD student, thanks for this. It really does feel like this is how it’s going to be in 2100. At this point the damage has been done. We’re just trying to control the fallout and prevent further damage, by which I mean further emissions. How we respond in the next seven years will determine by the end of the century how many cities will drown in rising oceans, what percentage of species will go extinct, what hideous viruses will spread as a result of changing environment, how many people will die of starvation in already drought-stricken areas, of heat stroke, of pollution, and how much of our forests will burn. For more information see the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) AR6 (Assessment Report 6) Summary for Policymakers. The IPCC is a UN organization of expert scientists from all over the world with a vested interest in seeking out the truth of climate change and providing actionable information to policymakers. The ARs are pulled together every few years to summarize the current understanding of the global climate scientific field, and they are rigorous. Every single line of the reports is agreed upon by every member country of the UN. It can take weeks of negotiation between countries’ diplomats and the scientists before a paragraph is finalized. Unfortunately, all this rigor isn’t easily digestible. The reports are split into three parts, each part has at least ten chapters, and each chapter is at least 50 pages long. The Summary for Policymakers for each part helps, but still is around 30 pages long. There is a synthesis report for the AR6 set to come out early 2023, so maybe that will be better. But on the whole, we kind of suck at communicating to the world at whole just what exactly is at stake, what’s already lost, and what can still be saved.

  • @brian2440

    @brian2440

    The IPCC isn’t the only ones….. Thing is the problem is even more severe, because while there are populations that recognize that climate change is a problem these people act like they are superior to climate change denies, yet they still don’t bother to read published decarbonization plans to actually correct the issues….. The last 10 years both parties in the US have been bickering about climate change, yet NEITHER party has advocated for a plan that would actually work. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Energy literally has full scale plans on how to decarbonize our industries and NOBODY IN EITHER PARTY has ever advocated for them…. Even for supposedly the most progressive parts of our government. Kinda a bold move to decide creating your own political plan that focuses more on equity than infrastructure than a peer reviewed and published document literally written by: - 7 US National Labs - Every DOE agency - Every DOI agency - All grid managers from the interconnection to regional level - All PMAs - EPA, ESAC-E, FERC, NERC, EIA - 14 of the largest engineering companies - 18 technical scientific and engineering - 3 of the largest construction firms - 3 renewable trade associations - 16 renewable energy firms in every field of renewables - 3 of the largest manufacturers for wind, solar, geothermal and hydro - 14 public utilities - 40 private utilities - 24 universities - 8 international universities with specialties in economics, climatology, and engineering - 11 international organizations like the UNFCCC, GEA, ILLISAC, EC, IPCC, IEA etc But nah clearly going with a plan built by 200 politicians who read at a third grade level makes much more sense….. I mean who could imagine that the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers might have a better understanding of how grid loading works than the Senator from Florida….. Who could imagine that the US Army Corp of Engineers and American Society of Civil Engineers would have a better understanding of where you can build hydroelectric damns and how hydrology works in a region as compared with the Senator from Rhode Island. Who could imagine that Argonne National Lab might have a better understanding in the development and growth of EVs than the Senator from Vermont. I mean it was only two of their researchers that helped invent the lithium ion battery in 92…. Clearly their insight is worthless

    During the pandemic, 129 billion masks that could not be biodegraded were used and thrown away every month. Over 3 billion masks now pollute the oceans. And yet, this is not discussed by so many politicians and also environmentalists. Also, masks dont work for Covid. Not even N95 masks.

  • @bstein5

    @bstein5

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Slayer8957 That was one of the key points I'm trying to address with my research, to make reusable mask filters that are environmentally benign or degradable. Because you're absolutely right, it's a microplastics disaster, especially if you keep wearing the same surgical mask every day and shoving it in your pocket. The problem with the N95 masks was that they're only rated for 8hrs of usage under normal conditions, and that's because their main filtration mechanism is electrostatic. When you're using the masks for weeks on end in environments with extremely high viral loads (like a hospital filled with infected patients) and you're breathing hard and getting sweaty, then yeah of course it's going to fail. That's why social distancing was so strongly encouraged, because it's by far the easiest and most effective stop-gap measure. The masks are like body armor, they can help you survive a round or two, but not 150 million every hour every day. Much better to not get shot in the first place, and that means staying out of the danger zone. People have known for millenia to separate the sick from the healthy, but apparently we forgot all that.

As for climate science, it started in the 1960s when people started worrying about aerosol pollution causing many problems and then when technology starting improving, by the 1990s we’re able to calculate everything by computer, and evidence has been virtually unanimous that the climate (weather patterns over a 30+ year range) is warming and that we worry that melting icecaps would accelerate the warming of the planet (not just flooding) Not saying you’re wrong. Only thing that hurts credibility here is the numerous claims over the last decades saying so many insane things because of climate change, but clearly they haven't happened. Clearly not much has changed to combat those claims too because China and India produce most the world's pollution and humanly caused, climate change factors. If we did all we can here in the US, but 90% of it still occurs because of those places and others who also don't change, we still have a problem, and we set ourselves back by restricting US development. Meanwhile, how many people are starving and dying of sickness every day that could be incredibly more easy to solve than the entire planets climate? There have just been so many doomsday climate change claims, and none of them have come close to being true, way past their claimed date of arrival.

It’s a lazy man’s excuse for why we shouldn’t better ourselves. You wanna know what would happen if we changed? Well for one the US is the sole super power of the world with a near monopoly on almost everything. Including influence on technology, trade networks, and entire countries political networks. If we adopted new policies, and changed industries by incentivizing new methods of doing things while replacing old ones. Then it will have a trickle down affect where developing and developed nations then adopt those methods to sustain themselves because they are both more affective and easier to implement. Thus since we implemented them and made them cheaper already. They are far more likely to be implemented to begin with. The excuse that we should do nothing because China and India of doing all or most of the polluting is an incredibly stupid argument that only comes about from an entitled lazy man’s point of view. It also ignores a lot of the problems that the US has traditionally exported to other nations. For example the only reason China and India are so bad. Is because they provide the products that we use. If we didn’t buy those products or simply requested different ones that incentivized better methods for creating and using them.

    @@danksinatra5977 Not quite, while the damage that has been done is already immense and will take maybe millions of years to reverse it is still not impossible to avoid 1,5 degrees of average warming above pre-industrial levels. So long as we avoid that we will avoid the worst consequences of climate change, we are however currently not on track to do that and we need much more prompt and ambitious action by the major economies. Also the fact that the historic droughts, massive floods, huge tornadoes and unprecedented forest fires we have seen right now is not the "worst" should tell you just exactly how dire the situation is.

    One misconception in this video is, that the “find out” part of f*ck around and find out of climate change is a thing that will happen suddenly in the future, one massive disaster dropping down on us all at once 0 to 60 in 3 seconds style, but in reality it’s just all existing natural disasters and erratic weather patterns constantly getting worse & more frequent. We’re already “finding out” with climate change, with every increasingly horrible hurricane, heat wave, massive fires, floods, etc, all becoming much worse and much more frequent. And the further man-made climate change is allowed to progress, the worse things are becoming for us. Climate change not like a one hit KO to us, it’s more like a death by a thousand cuts, it’s ALREADY very much happening, and the more we allow it to continue the worse it’ll get for us all.

    There was never anything we could do to stop climate change. We came out of an ice age thousands of years ago. Half of the US was covered in a mile of ice thousands of years back.

    They get rid of those laws because people who vote on them show through their actions that they don't actually care about the environment. Politicians and corporations don't have any reason to care because normal people don't. Corporations supply what we demand, and politicians enact laws to make it easier to do what we want to do. If we live like we don't give a shit about the environment (by not even taking easy steps like going vegan or driving less), we're showing them all that we don't care at all, despite what we say.
