This collaboration might be my favourite just yet not just bcos of how organic it feels, but also Michael actually asked some really, really important/interesting questions I've not seen discussed before (or much of it at least) like how tedious 4 finger gestures are. Apple's gestures are definitely the most natural/intuitive I think, even the 5 finger gesture it has is more natural to use (also not very commonly needed) than relying on 4. At the moment, I use Touche to configure the gestures for three-up to open the "Overview" view, three-down to "ExposeClass", and leave three-left/right to switch desktops (which I think is more than enough for most users who don't even know/rely on virtual desktops).

Please tell me zoom is now in a logical place like Accessibility rather than being bundled with Desktop Effects. I understand it may be seen as an "effect" but that means nothing to a user who is looking for an accessibility option. Just found it rather strange, not exactly user friendly and dated having been left like that for so long. I hope it has changed or will be changed eventually. Great content btw. My favourite Linux channel. Hope you're having a great day.

@@squishy-tomato I just think it shouldn't be seen or treated as an effect at all. However something is made or implemented in the background means nothing to the user so I think it should just be where it is on every other desktop (as far as I know). It feels as native as Compiz back in the day which is so archaic of an approach. I imagine it's like this because it's about KWin (I assume) settings being in mostly one place like it was for Compiz. Imagine already having poor eyesight just to go into a tab that has nothing to do with what you are likely squinting hard to find lol. Goes against the whole point of accessibility. I don't think there's anything to get used to. I think it's just an oversight in design. Genuinely amazed I've never seen it mentioned anywhere. Even more amazed it's never changed. I am surprised Plasma 6 hasn't made it more obvious when they're going over the design of the settings unless it has changed recently in development which would be great to hear.

nico, is it possible to change the timing of when it suggest to snap to a corner? when we have two screens it is too slow to be usable. (in the share edge of the two screens ie, middle) also, would be awsome to have the behavior of windows, that when you snapp to a corner, it shows the icons of the other open programs and if you select one, it fills the rest of the screen with the chosen app, or if you click outside it does nothing with other windows (as kde currently does)

Same. GNOME Shell with some extensions becomes very usable on a laptop with just gestures to handle dynamic workspaces and automatic fullscreen assignment per workspace. Plasma 5.27 on Wayland already has some gesture recognition improvements over GS but lacks the baked in work to feel integrated. Plasma 6 is shaping up to be a great environment.

i'm sorry but KDE feels like it's held together with nuts and bolts most of the time. i get its modularity, but it's too modular for its own good. it can't even communicate cursor image changes between its own windows, to its other desktop elements, and this has been a bug for years. everything has too many sub-menus that you don't use half the time, an option to remove unused menus/buttons would be welcome. but even with all that, I could see past it, if you could mirror your panel (task bar) accross all screens. it's wild this has been an issue/feature request for years, with so many people wanting it, yet no one is looking at it. it is my #1 reason that is preventing me from using kde.

Perhaps I misunderstand but if the new vision is to make KDE more like Gnome, then it's a less meaningful alternative since we already have Gnome and some of us don't like it.

What about implementing AI in the system, like Windows and many apps are currently doing? It is understandable not wanting to use AI for development at this point, but having AI is slowly becoming a norm. If you don't start working on it, Linux as always will be last to adopt and the solutions will be backwards compared to more mature things in other systems. This will be another reason not to use Linux, because "we don't have this or that". Those things are not just convenient, but become a necessity for work or education, or sometimes for daily living. This is crucial to keep up, and you are already late.

Shouldn't be too difficult as it isn't really a desktop problem. Although for many the absence of AI in the system would be a reason to switch to Linux and some would be unhappy to the addition of it because it is currently a point of controversy. If anything, Linux desktop is way more ready for AI tools integration since it's way more modular, so I don't see why it wouldn't be able to integrate system manipulation with an AI chatbot better than Windows does it. The major problem is the absence of powerful enough open-source AI models to compete with giant tech companies.
