How Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia kept each other's writing in check

"If I see something in his opinion that I think is not well stated, I will call him or send him a note, just to him," Ginsburg said in a 2008 60 Minutes interview about her fellow Supreme Court Justice.

60 Minutes, the most successful American television broadcast in history, began its 52nd season in September. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 is still a hit in 2020. 60 Minutes makes Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 nearly every week and was the #1 weekly television broadcast three times last season.
The program still averages more than 10 million viewers, more than double the audience of its nearest network news magazine competitor. The average audience for a 60 Minutes broadcast is 150% higher than those of the network morning news programs; the audience dwarfs the number of viewers drawn by the most popular cable news programs.
About a million more people listen to the 60 Minutes radio simulcast in several major cities and on its companion podcast. Tens of thousands each week experience 60 Minutes online. The broadcast’s segments can be watched at 60Minutes.com and on the CBS All Access app. Its webcast, 60MinutesOvertime.com, offers content originally produced for the web, including behind-the-scenes video about the production of 60 Minutes stories and timely archival segments.
60 Minutes has won every major broadcast award. Its 25 Peabody and 150 Emmy awards are the most won by any single news program. It has also won 20 duPont-Columbia University journalism awards. Other distinguished journalism honors won multiple times include the George Polk, RTDNA Edward R. Murrow, Investigative Reporters and Editors, RFK Journalism, Sigma Delta Chi and Gerald Loeb awards.
60 Minutes premiered on CBS September 24, 1968. Bill Owens is the program’s executive producer. The correspondents and contributors of 60 Minutes are Sharyn Alfonsi, Anderson Cooper, John Dickerson, Norah O’Donnell, Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and L. Jon Wertheim.

This gives me hope. It’s ok to be a conservative, and it’s ok to be a liberal! At the end of the day there’s strengths and flaws to both. We are all human, let’s act like it!

I’m conservative and love RBG. She has a different point of view but argues her points with respect and civility. The friendship of her and Scalia should be taught

Conservatives are trash humans. Total bigots. Hate democracy. Hate elections. Too stupid not to fall for lies to too unethical not to spread them knowingly. Everyone should hate conservatives.

@@QueenJneeuQ She wasn't even on the Court when abortion was first made a constitutional provision. Even though the entire document doesn't mention abortion or privacy at all. Thankfully RBG's views on guns did not carry the day in Keller and the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, as is in the clear and plain text of the Second Amendment, was preserved by the work of Justice Antonin Scalia, whose likeness will one day be preserved in lovely marble in a garden of American Heroes!

This is why SCOTUS Justices need to have an 18 year term limit with staggered ends dates. This way two justices end their term every 4yr presidential term. If a Justice dies or steps down then the sitting president fills the vacancy for the remainder of that justices term. This will depoliticize the SCOTUS and will end the trend of getting young justices just so they stay there for as long as possible. In the past justices would retire after a good number of years, this is no longer the case.

I wish we had more of this. A Balance of ideas. Now with the courts being thrown to the right. America is no longer balanced. Why can’t tDrumpf be more like Ronald Reagan? Yes also a conservative, but understood nonpartisanship and knew to work with Democrats. Trump is throwing America to far right while half of this country, tens even hundreds of millions of Americans do not support. We need more moderates. Extremism isn’t good.
