majority of the Ukrainian commanders in the front are actually foreign. The way how they laid out their strategic plans is very organized and effective compared to the crimean crisis where it becomes a meat grinder due to incompetency of Ukrainian COs

Everything about Russian tactics is elementary. Its only good against inferior numbers with inferior equipment. Thats why they struggled against Finland and honestly germany in ww2 were defeated by the elements and lack of supply. Russia always runs and hides for winter, and they attack like zombies, and only in massive numbers can they win. But also massive casualties.

When we hear about advancing 20km in a day we don't think about these infantry soldiers being brave enough to walk towards Russian defense lines. And to keep attacking in the same place for 3 days while other Ukraine soldiers rescue civilians and wounded. I hope Russian command are not capable if watching and learning.

There’s a couple of inherent problems any totalitarian state has: 1. Telling unpleasant truths makes you liable to be punished or at best ignored - because it goes against any official line, and against the expectations people have drilled themselves to expect. So the little people tell the big people everything is fine. 2. The big people get used to getting what they want. They believe in their own entitlement. They usually see personal enrichment from the state as their just desserts. 3. Nobody can tell the truth. Dishonesty starts to pervade many aspects of life. The big people feel entitled to steal, and the little people see no reason why they shouldn’t too, just to survive. Everyone *has* to be corrupt. 4. So the brigade has 900 on its payroll, a warehouse full of equipment and everybody has been well trained on manoeuvres. Except there are actually only 500 (They borrowed personnel from another brigade for the big parade.) The warehouse contents bears no resemblance to the records, and nobody did the genuine military exercise because there wasn’t enough fuel to run the tanks because somebody sold it.

If you want to know the difference between the Ukrainian and Russian military, then here you have it. Front line infantry being able to explain the strategic and tactical overview of the operation. They knew what they were doing, how it fitted into the overall battle plan, what resources and support they had. Decision making down to the squad level so that when they hit contact they knew to fall back and fix the enemy. Two totally different military cultures.

The Russian military doctrine doesn't allow for decision making at NCO level to fit changing tactical situations. Orders are given higher up the command tree and there is no allowance made for flexibility at lower kevels. That is why so many Russian senior commanders became casualties early in the war. They were coming to front line areas to give orders relating to changing tactical situations. Most other armies allow that kind of decision by senior NCOs.

Soviet-era doctrine means junior NCOs and enlisted troops aren’t told about strategic objectives for ‘security’ reasons. The sort of paranoia and distrust that characterized government in the USSR also permeated through the military. Russia hasn’t reformed.

I heard some of the intercepted calls from those particular Russian soldiers. They ran for their lives. Saying those Ukrainians we're coming from everywhere. They ran for miles trying to get away.

In February Russia stationed 100k troops along the borders. There are different sources that state between 39k and 50k Russian soldiers lost their lives. That would be 40-50% of what they surrounded the Ukraine with! Not to mention the loss in equipment, morale, trust and will to fight.
