I think it's better if you just milk and feed your cows by hand and not with robots, because you than can see how it't going with your cows and make a connection with them. And for people that are saying (don't steal the milk from calf farmers) don't do that, because the first milk that a cow produces after the birth is not suitable for consumption and is used for the calf and the milk after that is used for consumption. If farms stop with milking there will be a lot of food not available any more, because in a lot of products milk is being used.

Goudguppy Robots can actually help with some of the heavier work so that a farmer without much extra labor can take more time to pay attention to the cows. When you're working with machinery, by default you can't have all eyes on the cattle because you need to be aware of what you are doing.

Only if you have visited more than one dairy in your life. I respect your opinions, but please make sure you have a little bit of experience. Although we have traditionally consumed meat and dairy products for thousands of years Humankind is evidently becoming more conscious and kind and no longer choosing to rely on the exploitation and murder of animals in order to survive. Many if not most apes such as gorillas, orang-utans, bonobos etc rely on a plant based diet so physiologically humans are similarly quite capable of sustaining a healthy existence desisting from meat and dairy. Though titty milk is vital it is only intended for juvenile mammals - perhaps this explains why the adult populace appears to be in such a juvenile state, so controlled by the construct of money and beholden to the promise of technology. We may appear to be 'civilised' but we seem to be less happy, independently minded and secure, with our environment becoming ever more degraded. Personally I've worked on dairy farms and witnessed the exploitation and violence with my own eyes. After watching the film Earthlings my conscience encouraged me to adopt a plant based diet and though it was initially challenging I feel, some ten years on, much healthier in mind and body and now realise that such a collective action could be essential in overcoming our greatest issues, ensuring our survival as a species.

Vegan Iowan That is not an unbiased representation of agriculture. Why is it always documentaries? What's so scary about experiencing farming for yourself?

It's all grand. But thing people forgetting about is the cows still have to be checked daily and calfed daily and you still have to put that feed into the kitchen manually.

Ffs, kind of annoying hearing people complain about dairy farms/cows.... not all dairys treat their cows like shit, lets face it all animals get taken away from their mum as an infant. Milking them does not kill them, they have around a 2 month break in total every year from milking. I don't get why people think that the dairy industry is 'so cruel' just from something negative they may have seen/heard. There are such thing as decent people that treat theyre animals fairly and give them the best life that they can. Cows are used for beef, milk, have done for years and will continue to do so, its just a fact of life... not much people can do about it.. And btw, these machines are amazing :)

Repeatedly impregnating a cow, taking away her infant often as soon as its born, , sometimes a little later, conditioning them for profit by taking the milk that was supposed to go to their calfs and slaughtering them as soon as their production goes down, only to result in a product that's actually really bad for human consumption, makes us sick and fat. (70% of the people is lactose intolerant, it contains major hormone levels, natural and artificial, white bloodcells, what more...) and is extremely harmful to our planet in sight of water consumption and pollution. There is no sugarcoating around this: what you're not doing to them 2 months of the year, doesn't make up for what you're doing them the other 10. +Leonoor Leus I got a notbook to write everything that needs to be corrected in this arguement. I respect what you think but I just want to help everyone get the facts straight. 1) One impregnates a cow when a bull would. one impregnates a cow 3 months after it hasgiven birth, when it is in heat (can tell becauee it "wails" for a bull, and, in the case of no bull, one would use AI) 2) If treated right, a cow can produce right up until she dies of natural causes (usually over 10 years, one lived 17 years before dying and set a new world record I believe.) 3) Bad for the environment due to water wasting? we use water to irrigate crops, so should we stop doing that and starve the world? We use very little water as humans and water is filtered through the earths natural systems, so their is no problem. Also, because we technically don't NEED electricity to survive we should stop producing electricity because coal and gas polute the atmosphere so lets just cut that out. 4) cream is fatty, milk is full of calcium and nutrients, and doesn't make us sick. some are genetically allergic to milk or are allergic to things to make it less likely to make the rest ill such as pasteurization and other things that make it safer to drink. 5) If we didn't milk a cow, even if a cow had a calf the cow couldn't survive do to the large amount of stress on it's back. Could you carry 20 liters minimum in you stomach all day on all fours? probably not. This concludes my arguement, no disrespect

that's too easy if I didn't want to do the work I wouldn't have cows ive been doing this my whole life but I like it that's why I feed them myself and milk them myself I enjoy it I don't want the robot taking that away but I understand on a bigger farm it takes less labor if you have 2 or 3 employees you don't have to pay that yearly salary pays the payments on the robots and the robots don't go to the bar and get drunk and not show up for work and they don't get sick or quit because there too lazy to work looks like you got a good organized dairy hope things keep working for you

Keep in mind with all this stuff, A lot more things can go wrong. I think these are geared for the farmers who like working on the equipment more than the cows. But altogether, I agree that the robots are more efficient. Especially the Lely's, from what I see and hear they are just superior to the DeLaval's.

I completely agree I think it’s sad hard working people with a passion for milking are loosing there jobs over this

This isn't going to save the small family farms this is going to consolidate the dairies into fewer and fewer mega dairies. Just like Walmart and Amazon aren't going to save small businesses. It will be more efficient but drive down costs by eliminating jobs and smaller dairies.

You realise all those small family farms use the same processes? Small family farmers are running those "factory farms". lol No one wants to be dairy farmers anymore, it's impossible to get hands. It's long hours, small pay, and you can't call in sick, those cows have to be tended to.

@@infini_ryu9461 I've been picking up milk for the last ten years. I've seen the horrible working conditions. Outhouses for bathrooms. Break rooms that are full of compressors so it's loud and hot. Sanitation is a joke. Washington state recently required dairies to start paying overtime for the first time. Talked with some milkers that said their pay got lowered to minimum wage. The milkers drive old beat up Hondas. The farmers drive the fully loaded Ford F350 Platinums that are also tax writeoffs. Farmers show up for an hour to sip coffee and check their computer to see if they're still making bank off the backs of the hard workers. Then they go home to their mansions. They can barely provide a sink with running water. Half the parlors look like they've been neglected since the 30s. It's a wonder anyone shows up to work. It doesn't make any sense to spend eight hours driving to six small dairies to get one full load when you can bring in four or five full loads in the same amount of time.

I live in a county with over 125 dairies. I live near a town of 3000. 2500 of whom speak no English. This would be better than a wall!!

Well, those robots are purely made to light up the extra work (additional feeding of concentrated chunks above the regular corn - or grass diet) needed so the farmer has more time to take care for things like agricultural farming which should be in theory easily to be earned back later. Don't forget it is an investment in the future for a long-based period!

Actually yes, by detecting increased body cell counts, sodium and pH levels, temperature of each quarter of the udder and production falloff in any quarter. And when these early signs are detected, a list goes to the cow health manager

in the US the problem might not be big enough yet, but in Europe you do not have cheap mexican workers, we have fucking minimum wage for every Idiot that comes along and that means that the robot is Cheaper that Paid Humans for us

I hope my dad has this one day!

What I love about this video is that soon all dairy farms will use this and those people that complain about immigrants taking jobs. Soon they say machines has taken our jobs deport the machines.

brian peila Why should we not let the market do its job ? If there is a market for milk and people don't want to work there, increase wages until it's good enough for people to want to do it. Labour shortages do not exist especially for unskilled jobs. It's normal to pay more for hard work than for office work.

@@Bvic3 farmers have no control of the prices they get for milk or meat... they can not simply "raise the hourly rate" they pay when the margins are so slim and output costs are so high as it is

As the cows roaming area gets smaller and it can move less.The people that consume the milk move less. GO TO SLEEP!

"Grains, barley and supplements." Supplements like antibiotics, mineral oil and other pharma chemicals to keep the frothy bloat and acidosis symptoms managed so the cows don't die immediately from the grain induced disease/sickness.

Still falling for technology! If every dairy farm purchased this equipment the competitive edge would be lost and there would eventually be no economic advantage. The reason why the dairy industry is in decline is that people are becoming better informed thanks to the internet age... when you add up the facts and come to a conscious decision many are choosing to reduce their intake of milk and meat. Actually, the more civilized a nation gets, the more meat and milk are taken in by people. Demand meat was once considered a luxury, and now it isn't. Not better informed, I will eat all the meat I want no matter how fat it makes me. Many things that are said about cows are by people in documentaries are purposely trying to pick out the bad apples. Look at all the good operations and then come talking. Our local beef producers have never treated an animal as poorly as those things on documentaries. Nothing is in decline due to less consumerism, its down due to extreme stress to make money, so farms arn't as productive. machines like this can indeed save the industry. So, Don't think that consumerism is the problem, an average person doesn't give one about what they eat

I am now ignoring all of those documentaries due to many articles debunking them. Those documentaries have stretched the facts beyond belief to the highest point. It's fake, that's the least I can say.

It's an easy get out clause to dismiss uncomfortable information as fake news. In this information age of the internet folk are getting better informed than ever about what seems to be really going, unlike the selective view of the past through the education system and the media. To dismiss information as 'fake' without actually considering it and making up your own rational mind is to deny yourself the benefit of critical thinking. Watch Earthlings from beginning to end and then see where your opinion isl. There will always be conflicting, debunking content if the original info threatens business interests... Regardless of the dependability of news, exploiting animals is an uncomfortable truth most human beings don't want to face up to. If we had to kill our own dinner many more would become vegetarian and vegan. I've been vegan 10 years now and it's been the best life style change I've ever made. If the human race went plant based within a generation almost all the ecological problems facing the World today would be addressed... one simple solution on the path to evolved consciousness: Live & Let Live

Yeah, like that would happen. You just can't seem to spin your head around to the fact that only 1% of America is vegan, and that has been the same for many years. Veganism is unnatural, unhealthy and unstable. It also is unsustainable. Would you like to eat the "stuff" that they are feeding the cows in this video? That feed is produced easily on northern land, like the land in this video. You're not growing carrots, oranges, lettuce, maybe even wheat there. This is the thing that vegans miss the most. You can't just grow anything in soil. Dairy is not wasting soil. Beef and Poultry are not wasting soil. They are making the most out of what we have.

That equipment doesn't look awesome, it looks like debt. And the market for milk is shrinking.
