    Portsmouth is the only island city. It is also the most densely populated place in the UK at 14000 peeps per square mile. People are no-nonsense and the humor can be brutal. It takes a real character to represent this club. Over the years I have seen excellent players and coaches fail because they weren't up to it, and players with average ability become legends. This group lived in the city, interacted with the people, and used the energy of the place to propel themselves forward. The intensity and incredible strength of character that was shown by every single player was immense. And every single player in the squad had a pivotal role. Seeing Alex Robertson in the away end at Bolton says everything. Cheers Jack. 🎉

    I'm exhausted. From winning the FA Cup and reaching another final two years later to 17th in League Two, to finally shaking off an amazingly tenacious Derby to earn the chance to beat Scum again. I'm exhausted. It's been so long. edit: I want to thank you Jack, and Tom, and Ben, and even Jake, for making this an even more wonderful season. It's been so much fun listening to your podcasts and watching the vlogs. You've got a great team there mate.

    Im so proud of the Pompey team, they have been solid all season. Not always been pretty, not always be comfortable but they have consistently got the job done. The playoffs this year are going to be brutal, the 4 teams who make it will have to keep their nerve and play every minute with everything they have. I can't wait to watch and see who makes it.

    As a Wigan fan, I have been impressed by the number of games where Pompey have won coming from behind ! This shows character. No shortage of games where they win by scoring plenty of goals. However, there is another trait that all championship winning teams have, grinding out those scruffy 1-0 wins, goes a long way to accumulating the three points ! Congratulations to Pompey, for now enjoy the celebrations, then prepare for next season. Consolidate your position in the Championship, next season will be a tough one. You should have enough in the tank, but you will need to strengthen your squad.

    Jack, thank you for your passionate appraisal of Portsmouth Football Club. I was introduced to PFC the age of 8, we were at home to Wolves, the crowd that day was 36K in 1960/61 season. I’d only know local park football so I insisted that I’d take my ball along and have a halftime kick around. Wow, what an impact Fratton had on me? The memories I had walking onto the pitch on Tuesday night was unbelievable. I was fortunate enough to play at Fratton Park in 1978 end of season Portsmouth Senior Cup final captaining a very good Petersfield side so walking on that pitch again was so special for me. Please keep up the good work Jack, I will always be looking out for a future Oxford dual. Kind regards. Phil Wisdom.

    Jack, can I just say that was a superb summing up of Pompey's season. In 55 years of supporting the club I have never seen a squad of players that just refuse to get beaten despite everything that is chucked at them, and that includes the amazing spell under Alan Ball in the mid 80's.

  • @dangermace11
    @dangermace113 ай бұрын

    The squad mentality and togetherness has been something else this season at Pompey. A great example of that is Saydee's goal at Wycombe just a few weeks ago. In the background of the celebrations you can see Ryler Towler punching the air and going mad. Towler was an ever present for the second half of last season but hasn't played at all in the league this season, having to watch this incredible season from the bench and there you see him going mad for the winning goal. Kept out by Shaughnessy so he can't have many complaints i guess, but still....

    OK after watching this latest vlog from your channel and finally realizing that this is not a dream and that we actually have been promoted to the Championship, i want to say a few words. I agree with all that you have said about Portsmouth, the team, the manager and the fans and everything associated with the club. But there is something else that has made this season so much more special for some of the Portsmouth fans, especially the likes of me who live so far away from England now. It is content like this and that of Ben from Fleetwood and of course Tom at 4 nil written all over it that has also added to the excitement of the whole season. I have constantly been looking forward to watching you all after every game. Your guys analysis and commentary and debates about all teams in League 1 has been thoroughly enjoyable. I am 61 years old and have been going to Fratton Park since about the age of 10 and now I still fly over and watch some key games, last one being Portsmouth V Oxford where we won 2 -1 I hope Oxford get up through the playoffs so that I can still watch this and hear what you have to say about everyone in the Championship, especially Portsmouth next season. But if not, I will still watch your content next year and Ben's content, even if Fleetwood are in League 2. I think you boys have done an excellent job and have been very professional in doing it as well. You all deserve credit for making this season so much more enjoyable I leave here by thanking you and wishing Oxford and Fleetwood all the success in the future. PUP. Victoria, Canada PS. Watching this vlog nearly had me in tears because it was so spot on about Pompey and its fans.

    Pompey didn't take most sides apart but their success came from several reasons. Firstly the players had a never say die attitude and unlike some other teams, if they went a goal down our supporters didn't walk out on them, instead they turned up the volume. Lastly, when they had a dip in form midway through the season, after the January window opened, manager John Mousinho was able to make some astute signings to strengthen the team.

    Good summary, like many I did question when we appointed John Mousinho, but him together with some realy good recruitment have delivered a team that has got the fans fully behind them to win the league with 2 games to go. Even when we went behind in games, we still believed we would come back to win the game and I've not had that feeling since we got promotion to the premier league back in the early 2000's under Harry & Jim. Best of luck to Oxford in the play offs and cheers for the videos this season.

    Have thoroughly enjoyed your content this season Jack. Yourself and Tom (4 nil) and Ben from cods have made this season so much more enjoyable with your breakdowns. Pompey have been incredible this year. Where every other team have stuttered and stumbled. Pompey have just kept accruing the points. I’ve been a Pompey fan for almost 40 years. And I’ve rarely seen a team so in tune with its fan base. And that comes from JM. That man when he came in. We as fans were baffled. How wrong were we. His calm honest attitude have radiated to the fans and players. I’ve witnessed much in life as a Pompey fan. Winning the FA cup. Harry Redknapps all stars. Plummeting through the leagues. Financial mismanagement. Unfit owners. And minutes from being wound up for good. The slow rebuild of this club is complete. What a season.

  • @abaker161
    @abaker1613 ай бұрын

    Great analysis as always Jack, I can't argue with any of the points you've made. One thing that I'd add is mentality. Whilst you might rightly expect permanent signings to have a positive mentality, the same cannot always be said of players from the loan market. Let's be brutally honest, in previous seasons we've had our fair share who, let's just say the clubs results didn't matter too much to them. This season the likes of Alex Robertson, Abu Kamara, and Tino Adjorin have fully bought into the team ethic that John Mousinho wants to build. All three surpassed any pre-conceived expectation that us Pompey fans had of them. Would I be surprised to see one, two or maybe all three back in a Pompey shirt in seasons to come... I'd be absolutely ecstatic, but not surprised. There's a bloody good feeling around Portsmouth FC these days and players want to buy into that. The futures never looked brighter.

    Another great episode, thanks Jack. I think you've gathered quite the Pompey following with your content this season! We will miss you next year (perhaps a Championship series could be on the cards?!) Worth calling out the impact of Rich Hughes and Andy Cullen in this, alongside the owners....Hughes and Cullen backed Mous when not many felt that was a wise move. In fact, as Mous enjoyed mentioning in his post match interview on Tuesday, some "fans" even paid for a plane with a banner complaining about the owners and a lack of ambition/plan shortly after he was recruited! Hughes, Cullen and the Eisners not only made a great call in backing a rookie with a lot of ingredients to be successful, but also in putting together a competitive squad which, as you identified, created a great culture and bond with the fans/club. We had a lot of injuries and the owners made sure Mous had the backing to retain a competitive squad. Will be interesting to see how we get on next year

    Regarding the 'history or names dont get you promoted' comment - the reason Pompey fans especially believe so much that we 'deserve' to be a championship club, or above, is because we nearly always were! The reason we dropped to league 2 was because of bad ownership. Thats not the clubs fault. Same for most bigger clubs, pompey, derby, bolton, do not belong below the champ. They are only there because of bad ownership and the efl/fa not vetting that properly. Most of the clubs in league 1/2 have been there for most of their existence.

    We were pretty poor for most of the game last night, yet i sat there and even 2-1 down with 10mins left i just felt like it was gonna happen, its a weird feeling that as pompey fans we havent had for a LONG time. Other sides have also played good football, but when they conceded heads would drop and you knew we were gonna lose. There's been almost an arrogance and a swagger to these boys this year that they've used to carry over the line in games we had no right to get results in. Last night being the most obvious example

    That night was the best night for me as we become champions on my birthday so being crowned champions on my birthday was the best present but the ultimate memory was winning the fa cup , huge club supporters can celebrate winning trophies every year but to me that’s not special as it becomes an expectation but Portsmouth everything is memorable as our club goes through phases of success and then dark times , I rather support a club that wins something every now and then thsn every year cos you remember it more it becomes more special and that makes you an under dog , 50s no one expected Pompey to be English champs let alone back to back winners , Pompey was under dogs in 1939 , Pompey was never expected to win the cup 2008 , we wasn’t expected to be champions in 2017 and also this season , Pompey was favs to get relegated from the championship in 2003 and was champions , Pompey was excepted to get battered by ac Milan and we stunned them and shocked Europe , we was favs to be relegated from the prem and went on to stay and also find success for 7 years and in 1992 Pompey almost knocked out Liverpool the cup semi final and we wasn’t even in for a shout for it either , Pompey has found all of its past success off the back of being the under dog which makes the success of this club more special and I really think what has made that success is the pride and passion and relentless support from the fans

    Plymouth last year. Pompey this year. Just shows that a team doesn't need to be the biggest spending club in L1. Should be an inspiration to lots of the " second tier" clubs in L1 for next year. Recruit well; coach well to a clear gameplan; become a team not a set of individuals; anything can then happen. (Shout also to Stevenage and Lincoln who have outplayed their budgets).

    This team doesn't hide behind excuses. They either give 100% or they own up and say they weren't good enough. I can't listen to other managers and teams interviews any more, the reliance on excuses is obvious and I can't stand it now.

    Thanks Jack, well said. Best of luck in the playoffs, hope you join us in the Championship next year so you and Tom can continue your KZread relationship. I'm sure JM will want the team to give Lincoln a hard time on the final day for the benefit of his old club.
