Big political changes are coming in Western democracies, is the US ready to deal with the fallout? Voters in the United Kingdom and France will head to the polls in the coming weeks after UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron called snap national elections. Both political gambles could have a huge impact on everything from the West’s collective ability to deal with climate change to the AI revolution and countering China’s growing influence.
On Ian Explains, Ian Bremmer breaks down the tumultuous landscapes of French and British politics right now, with an eye on upcoming elections in Canada and the United States. In Britain, Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party is almost guaranteed to lose control of the government. In France, the far-right National Rally Party is highly favored to win the most seats in the National Assembly. A similar story is playing out in Canada, setting the stage for a potentially brutal electoral defeat next year.
So why should Americans care about all this political chaos so far from home? Watch Ian Explains for more on what’s at stake with so many big elections on the horizon.

This is all pretty first-level stuff you can get from scanning headlines in the morning. The question of how political chaos in those 3 countries could impact the U.S. (the actual title of the video) was not even addressed.

@@Statsy10 That wasn't addressing the title of the video. I guess I'm irked cause I hate click bait and the question Ian posed is a good one. Would actually like to hear him talk about this issue.

It was the entire last third of the video. US is the leading world power, but not without strong allies.

@@blueberryfuzz Most people don't click on a video if it lasts longer than three minutes, but this was the type of complex topic that really needs more of a deep dive. I wish this was a promo for the real video. 😂

These kinds of videos by GZERO are usually released as teasers and short snippets out of a longer, 20-minute video that dives deeper on the topic, usually an interview with an expert on the topic. So I'm sure they'll soon (in a few days) release that 20-minute version

In Canada, we wonder how political chaos in the US will impact us. Not far from civil war at times.

There is no political chaos in Canada. Obviously after 10 years there would be change in 2025.

The chaos is in the appalling mediocrity of the three party leaders. That is a serious risk.

Good to remember alliances. What's that old saying 'United, we stand, divided we fall'. Democracy has more pluses than minuses. Thanks, Ian Bremer (from Australia).

Rishi is a Millennial Ian. What else ... need you know. There is only one Millennial who owns his state. And that guy is Mohammed Bin Salman. Rishi is likely going down. He was able, to his credit, which is actually unrecognized, calm things to a measure of sanity in U.K. after Boris Johnson/Liz Truss. Ultimately though, he just didn't do enough. He/Tories will lose large. Thank you Ian ... 👍

Les États-Unis pourraient essayer de vivre en harmonie avec les pays qui ne sont pas agressifs, mais ils préfèrent décrier leurs ennemis et agir de manière agressive contre eux.

It is hard maintain a good relationship with Europe with the US is behind blowing up critical infrastructure like Nord Stream two. Now Europe is dependent on expensive LNG instead of affordable Natural gas while the US benefits from LNG export to Europe.

Sure there’s political chaos in the West but in the rest of the world especially in the emerging economies things are not looking any better. For instance Chinese economic crisis is unlikely to subside, Russia still going insane in Ukraine with the possibility of having so many asymmetrical warfare along its border, Modi’s India having trouble with inequality also nepotism and political dynasties are gaining headwind across Southeast Asia. Hence I must say the crisis that the West endure is very mild compared to the rest of the world.

Awe…. Poor climate change. 100k 25-50 yo died of fentanyl last year and the cool kids can only think about climate change. Ian is awesome. Love him. He’s also a part of the blob. “We haven’t done enough for poor people. Let’s end racism. More war. And climate change (the biggest grift) matters. The unintentional (I like him) toward the half of the country Washington has destroyed is going to blow up the system. That’s a bigger problem then the time increasing a few degrees, prior to a ice age.
