I agree that Robobot has the best gimmick, instead of being a generic screenwipe-powerup like ultra abilities and hypernova, the robobot armor has its own moveset and it’s more like a different gameplay style instead of “oh we gotta press the nuke button now!” Star Allies partners are ok but we’ve kinda seen all that before so it’s not as interesting.

Robobot is it’s own league. The villains have THOROUGHLY mechanized everything and it’s satisfying to go “anything you can do, I can do better” on them by using his abilities amped THROUGH the mech! And I think that’s the charm, it’s a super form that still feels like a standard Kirby level. Hypernova was just a lame big suck (literally) but also feels like you’re unleashing karma by attacking them with an upgraded mechanized version of you

When it comes to modern Kirby gimmicks, the super abilities from RtDL were pretty good, nothing amazing, but it was satisfying landing powerful attacks, also snow bowl is absolutely amazing and easily the best super ability. KTD's supernova is literally just abilityless Kirby with a more powerful suck, yawn. KPR's robobot armor is easily the best gimmick, it is a powerhouse against enemies, the robobot armor variants of the copy abilities are super fun, the puzzles are creative, and the platforming is top notch. KSA's allies suffer from the opposite problem of KSS's helpers, as awhile the KSS helpers are dumb as all hell, as the only helper I actually use is Wheelie Rider since you can ride on him and essentially use the wheel ability with the ability to jump, outside of that (and that one time I use Burning Leo in the Old Tower's basement to get that one treasure in Great Cave Offensive), I avoid using helpers all together as they are more of a nuisance if anything, KSA's allies on the other hand basically play the game for you, so outside of those parts where you have to use the allies, I avoid using allies for a more engaging experience.

Planet Robobot is such a phenomenal game, it was the game that got me into the Kirby Franchise as a whole, and it's genuinely my number one favorite game in the world, even overtaking my other beloved games, like UNDERTALE Robobot does so many things right as a platformer, and the finale with Star Dream is an absolutely unforgettable experience Awesome video! Star Dream may be the fight Kirby avoided in Superstar, as there he just infiltrated it through a gap in the machine’s face and deactivated that Nova by destroying its core, whereas here, you gotta fight it straight ahead, and rather than the Nova being too focused on reaching Pop Star to treat you as more than just a mild intruder, here you have most of Star Dream’s attention

Robobot is in a lot of ways like Majora’s Mask and Super Mario Galaxy 2: take a great gameplay style, add some new mechanics, give it a new theme (moreso in MM rather than Galaxy), and simply improve what the original did. BAM! Instant fan favorite.

Planet Robobot is definitely the current peak of the Kirby formula, and with the Star Dream reveal hitting so close to home, it's really neat seeing another recurring boss. Planet Robobot what a beautiful game and the highest point in Kirby as a whole. Something funny is that the hypernova was supposed to make a comeback but they just dropped it and that was for the best to give this game it's full identity. I really loved the idea of the Robobot and how it blends with the different abilities. 2:59 it may be ridiculous but that ability is still perfect because LOOK AT KIRBY!!!! And i'm still wondering why they decided to bring back circus...but no Beetle that was a personal favorite. 6:53 that part was just hilariously random. That Skill Share ad segway was clever yet again good one. It's fine to just go and be a fanboy with the soundtrack because Holy Shit is sooooo good although the only tracks that beat any of the boss themes in this game are the Sectonia themes from Triple Deluxe. Man i just remembered your video about Kirby lore when we were on the final stretch of the main game...man i'm so happy to be subscribed to your channel. The final final boss is just amazing, epic and perfect no contest but extra points for the stickers although would've been better if the halberd had the deformed Dedede stickers 😆 Meta Knightmare Returns is just perfection, fanservice at full strength, amazing controls, also Galacta Knight although i expected to see him because he's just the man. The true arena can go and burn in hell...is so freaking cruel and funnily enough i talked about it with some friends last weekend when a friend was playing this game and we were on the same boat this true arena is just freaking cruel although the remix of Heart of Nova was a good touch except for the final attack that was a good middle finger for the player and it's hilariously cruel. This game is just the peak of Kirby (in general for now but will be the 2D peak forever), and Star Allies was a bit disappointing because of the base game at least the DLC were a good thing but still not even close to the high points of the Return trilogy. Great video Monger keep the great work dude

I once had a theory over why Kirby's Robobot cries at the end of Planet Robobot that was recently disproven. I was under the impression that after Star Dream was destroyed, Haltman's soul was freed and possessed the Robobot so that he could thank Kirby for stopping Star Dream from taking over the world his daughter lived in. But as a consequence, his soul was forever trapped inside the Robobot and as he begins drifting into the empty abyss he begins to shed oil from the eyes of the Robobot, knowing that he will never be reunited with Susie.

10:04 A shame this boss that doesn't fight like Pix in the slightest uses bosses that you've seen recently. That being Kracko and Coily Rattler when you just fought a game ago. Then there's also Queen Sectonia who's in the same boat and Kracko and CR. And in my opinion, Galacta Knight hits a bit too close to his RtD fight, but his entire thing is just showing at times, so I can let it slide. Now there's also the Dedede clones, but I like this boss as the multiple Dededes constantly chasing you is a unique spin on D3 fights. There's also the case of two of the fights you do earlier in the game having a better or easier fight that's similar. Haltmann is Susie's fight but better and Mecha Knight+ is easier due to the tail making him really slow. Besides that, I think the bosses in this game are definitely the best the series has had. (Aside from late game bosses in the other games. They're on par with those). Even with some fights being similar to others they're still loads of fun.

The levels are super interesting, the Robobot armor has to be the best modern gimmick the story's cool and the music (as usual) is fantastic. One thing I'll never forget though is the True Arena. It is absolutely soul crushing. I've beaten every True Arena type mode with I'd say at most 20 tries. This one had me going for weeks with no avail. I always made one stupid slip up that cost me a run. It got so bad that I shamelessly cheesed with Stone and almost one if it weren't for Star Dreams last attack that takes like 7/8 of your health. After that I dropped the game, lost it and am now haunted by the eternal 99% completion.

Both Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot are truly great highlights in the 3DS' long library, especially since there aren't a whole lot of quality 2D platformers on the system, and the both of them are easily amongst the best the Kirby series has to offer. I will say though that I really don't like how all the new lore we got in Planet Robobot was handled. I'm not going to go into it too much, but if you know... well, you know. i swear, robobot is awesome as hell EVERYTHING wise. i believe i got it on my 10th birthday (same year it came out) and i'm still playing it to this day the puzzles are so got danm creative and challenging, the music goes HARD, the invader armor designs looked badass along with Haltmann's stuff in general, and the end cutscene stabbed me right in the FEELS dude, that has to be the most heartwarming thing in the kirby series EVER so now, i unoficially grant this to be The Game Ever, gameplay wise, design wise, EVERYTHING wise

Haltman's story is truly tragic He was a cold calculating president of a company but loved his daughter more than anything. Thought she died during an accident and tried to use a God Machine to bring her back even though she was actually alive. Either from the error loop or Star Dream's nature itself, it corrupted him and he lost his memories until he couldn't even remember why he wanted to expand his company nor truly remember his daughter when she returned. Then in a mad gambit to use more of Star Dream's processing power instead had his consciousness/soul absorbed by it. Then in the true final boss fight whatever remains of him is deleted and/or destroyed along with the infernal computer. Just your standard Kirby lore

Excellent review once again, Monger! I absolutely agree that Robobo Planet is by far the best modern 2D game in the series (so far)! :D I LOVE the Robobo Armor, it definitely gives a fresh new take on the traditional formula of the franchise, it can even regain its own Copy Ability design, as well as being able to use them to solve puzzles, which is just awesome (I do wish it could've used the other abilities in the game though, it can't even use the other 2 newcomer Copies, Doctor, and Poison. Imagine what those, along with Whip, Crash, Archer, Hammer, Mirror, Ninja, Smash Brothers, etc. would look like, even Sleep)! Fantastic soundtrack! Tragic story. A better use of the secondary collectable (even if it's still annoying to get all of them, minus the rare ones hidden in each level)! And it all leads to a bittersweet 100% reward! I will agree that the True Boss Battle Endurance is by far the worst part of the game. Roughly 9-12 minutes of the mode is already wasted on the 3 Star Dreams fights that didn't even originally exist in other modes, it drags for like a half-hour, and worst of all; if you get hit by any of Star Dream Soul OS's heart's set of waves, it's an instant death, and you have to redo that entire, frustrating slog all over AGAIN...! 20-30 minutes of your life wasted... Other than that though, it's not that bad. I also wish that this game could've been on the Wii U since that console lacked a main series Kirby title much like the GameCube did (not that it matters too much as long as the game's good, but still). A shame Star Allies didn't live up to the same level as RP, but it's still a fantastic entry too! Discovery is already looking like it could top this game, let's hope that the first official 3D Kirby game does just that, and then some!

One thing that people often miss is that the cannon the dedede clones use is replica of the halberds main cannon, and the arm the mecha knight grows is said cannons arm. The Halberd-shadowing throughout this game is crazy.

I adore Robobot, but to be completely honest, I can’t help but love Triple Deluxe a little bit more. Robobot is a masterpiece in game design, but the nostalgia is too strong to ignore. It was my first Kirby game and all, and I unironically love it as well, so I’m very excited to see that video soon. Great video, and I’m excited to see what comes next!

A lot of the comments give shine to the robobot and star dream, but I want to give my appreciation to Haltmann. I feel he is a well written villain that sadly gets overshadowed often. Sure, a lot of his lore is from… miiverse. But I feel compiling it together we have an empathetic story of a father who’s grief has taken control of him to the extreme. He’s insane, but he’s also insanely intelligent. It’s not mentioned much that he managed to understand *most* of the technology to make a Nova. That’s impressive. Thanks miiverse for saying true arena isn’t canon but I feel noting that one of the descriptions for Star Dream Soul OS credit a fraction of Haltmann’s soul being active enough to throw a wrench in the machines plans. Without him, in a way, Kirby would of never been able to truly defeat Star Dream. A grim sense of final realization of the memories that were taken from him now that he’s one with the machine that took him. Small bonus: the shrieks of agony you hear from him while destroying the final parts of Star Dream Soul OS (the galactic nova homage part) is *genuinely terrifying* and it is even more grim as the pause screen after destroying all of them states *haltmann is no more.*

Planet Robobot has to be my favorite Kirby game and I really only have one gripe with it (which is only a nitpick at best) and it’s how Haltmann’s theme is incorporated into almost every song, and most songs were already techno so I just felt that every song sounded the same BUT! City of Sound is my favorite song in all of Kirby and there is quite literally no world in all of Kirby history that compares to the beauty that is Rhythm Route, I will die on this hill!

Robobot is absolutely fantastic. An interesting twist and the Kirby norm with its heavy mechanical theme, a RIDICULOUSLY HARD True Arena, and introducing my favorite Copy Ability in the franchise: Poison. I will say it as many times as I have to, Poison is immensely powerful but everyone sleeps on it; with all 3 puddles and 2 clouds and your own strong attacks, Poison does as much damage as Hammer and Fighter, if not more. No other Copy Ability has damage over time effects, which means Poison's playstyle is completely unique and requires much more forethought than other abilities, as you need to anticipate where the boss is right now AND where it's going to be to effectively place your clouds and puddles of poison as well as continuing your own onslaught.

This guy’s description of Poison gave me a new head canon. And along with that, it actually might be true! Water Galboros and Miasmoros look eerily similar in my eyes, they were polluted by the mechanization like how Water gets polluted in real life, now Water is the Poison ability, pretty dark but also interesting.

I would like to say that Kirby Planet Robobot was the game that made me learn how to play games. It was the first game I ever 100% though I had to use the UFO ability at the Nova Core. I also got all but one collectible without looking up a guide. I truly think that this game is what made me take off the training wheels, as before I played it, I remember struggling in Kirby’s Dreamland. The first game. This game also solidifies the 3DS as one of the best consoles of all time in my mind. Also, the PSI ability was my favorite, though I loved all the robot armor transformations, as they all felt powerful. As someone who did not get any of the references, I will say that I still loved them as (to me) original things. The only game that rivals it in the top spot is Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Third is super star deluxe.

i too. like Mirror in Super Star, but i liked it because its guard was one of maybe three that didnt have you take chip damage from enemies. plus being a solid attack, having you attack while dashing and the guard being able to sometimes reflect enemy attacks. and Robobot is pretty good i guess.
