How Pileated Woodpeckers Build Nests (And Tips For Finding Them)
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
I recently followed the knocking sounds of a pileated woodpecker and found where they were constructing a new nest cavity. It was awesome to spend the afternoon watching the different stages of construction, and I learned a lot about their behavior.
This video covers how pileated woodpeckers build their nests, including stages of construction, nest locations, roles of the male & female, and some sounds they use to stay in touch.
Thanks for watching!

I love this! We have old growth forest within the city of Seattle and i've seen pileated woodpeckers there. It took me awhile to figure out that they are the ones making the "wicking" call, which sounds like laughter to me.

How do you stop woodpeckers pecking on your house? Love your videos, so informative. Very interesting, I love nature as you do. Thank you for your great videos.

I'm not sure... but if they're drumming like a loud resonant rattling sound, you may need to provide an alternative spot like a hollow post for them to use instead. If they're actually pecking into your siding for food or nest building, you may have rot issues or need to use some kind of physical barrier to prevent them from causing damage to your home. I would recommend asking a home-builder :)
Fun details in this one. Really brings the local nature to life
