How Passover Became Easter | LHT Presents

The early New Testament Church didn’t celebrate Easter. Why not-and what changed? Phil Sandilands discusses the shift from Passover (which God commanded) to Easter (which God NEVER commanded). Discover why Passover is still important to God-and why Easter will never be an acceptable replacement.

Being Jewish and yet a Christian, I wish my Jewish brothers and sisters could understand that the blood of the Lamb that we put on the doorposts, because we were faithful to the voice of Hashem …was the foreshadowing of what Jesus would one day come to do for us.

Yes, the blood of the "Passover lamb" saved the lives of the firstborn, because the angel passed over homes in Egypt that had its blood on the two doorposts and above the door on Abib 14 (Ex 12:2-7; Abib, meaning "green ears"), while killing the firstborn of any home, including animals, that did not have it splashed on the doorposts and door (Ex 12:29, 30), so that its blood pictures Jesus shed blood on the stake, and whereby the apostle Paul said at 1 Corinthians 5:7: "For, indeed, Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed" on Nisan 14, 33 C.E. But it need be pointed out that so many who profess to be Christian fail to grasp Jesus words at John 3:16-18: "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son (showing Jesus as NOT God), so that everyone exercising faith ("exercising faith", Greek pisteuo eis, meaning "faith in motion" and not just "believing") in him might not be destroyed ("destroyed", Greek apollumi, meaning "to destroy fully", also showing that there is NO "hellfire", for when a person is destroyed, they cease to exist) but have everlasting life." "For God did not send ("send", Greek apostello, meaning "to send out on a mission") his Son into the world for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him. Whoever exercises faith (or has "works of faith") in him is not to be judged. Whoever does not exercise faith (or does not have "works of faith", see James 2:18-26) has been judged already, because he has not exercised faith in the name of the only-begotten Son of God." So, only those who "exercise faith" in Jesus sacrificial blood, by having "works of faith", such as doing as Jesus stated at Matthew 28:19, 20, to "go and make disciples", to make known "the good news of the Kingdom" at Matthew 24:14, to show agape love and be "NO PART of the world", with its divisive and hateful politics at John 15:17-19. These must have "stripped off the old personality with its practices" and then put on "the new personality" that imitates God, whose name is Jehovah (YHWH, transliterated as Yahweh, from the ancient Hebrew יהוה), at Colossians 3:9, 10. These must do as Jesus told the Pharisees at Matthew 22:37-40, that "you must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment (at Deut 6:5). The second (at Lev 19:18), like it, is this: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets". It is only these that Jesus shed blood cover their sins.(see 1 John 1:7)

When you say Jewish, are you referring to a secular Jew family or a Jews for Judaism family? If you read the Hebrew Bible carefully, you would know that the Passover lamb/goat was not a sacrifice nor has any relationship to wiping out sins. The Israelites were instructed to kill and roast the lamb or goat whole before leaving Egypt. Like the previous 9 plagues, the 10th plague was also a challenge to Egyptian gods. The god that is associated with the last plague, Khnum, has a lamb head and human body, and was responsible for creating human beings. The ten gods were: Hapi, Heket, Geb, Khepri, Hathor, Isis, Nut, Seth, Ra, Khnum. The Israelites were instructed to kill and roast the lamb/goat so the Egyptians would smell it and be devastated that their gods were in big trouble. The Passover Lamb is a symbol of Egyptian idol, and everyone in Judaism know this. Just ask any Rabbi. I wonder if Paul, who is responsible for the majority of the New Testament, was really a Jew. Why would he make such a grave mistake of equating Passover Lamb to any type of sin offering? Equating Jesus with the Passover Lamb is essentially equating Jesus to an Egyptian idol. Really don't understand why Paul said such a thing. Besides, there are no such thing as sacrifice that can wipe out all sins, not even the goats offered during Yom Kippur for that matter. Any of the sacrifices related to sin offerings in the OT are only good for canceling out "unintentional sins." King David didn't offer any sacrifice for his intentional sins, and he was forgiven because he repented. If Christians don't know the true meaning of Passover, does it really matter if they celebrate Passover? Passover is for the Jews and their descendants, people who signed the covenant with the God of Israel. I am not a Jew, but I can appreciate their history and rich culture. But for Christians, why twist the story of the Passover, the function of Passover Lamb/goat, and insert Jesus into the mix. Twisting the Jew's story of Passover seems disrespectful to me.

  • @verityc6504

Drawing the connection between the blood of the Passover lamb/goat with Jesus doesn't make logical sense. So, Jesus's blood would only cover the lives of the first-borns? The other people will live regardless of whether there were blood on the doorposts. That foreshadow analogy is not convincing to me. I am not a Jew, but I wish Jews who believe in Jesus would realize that they are betraying their own people and destroying a rich history and culture. The NT is an anti semitic propaganda, even a non Jew like me when reading it has to cringe, especially chapters like Matt 23. Think of King David, he was forgiven because he repented, that's what the Hebrew Bible instruct about salvation, it's repentance, not someone dying for others. The God of Israel hates human sacrifice so Hashem won't device such a plan to go against himself. The God of Israel hates adultery, so he wouldn't let someone's wife give birth to his child, that's just against his own principle. For Jews who don't understand their own Hebrew Bible, I recommend Rabbi Tovia Singer and Jews for Judaism. There are plenty of resources that will guide Jews to understand how the Hebrew Bible is the complete Bible for the Jews, and that there are so many inconsistencies in the NT that actually go directly against Hasham.

I actually found out last year by researching the roots of the diabolical Roman Catholic Church . The reason for my research i believe the Lord led me to witness to catholics so i needed to know what the Roman Catholicism Doctrines and the whole catholic belief system is and what it entails. First about Christmas the date was set by Rome also after a pagan Idol and has nothing to do with Jesus birth . I also found out about Pagan Easter so this video just explained in detail what happen and validated my own research . A former catholic priest Now Born Again told me that the Roman Catholic Church (Cult like ) is Satan's Masterpiece to deceive all the Nations and sad to say he succeeded . Almost all in the Christian realm are deceived to this very day .

Easter is a Pagan Holiday. Easter was originally a celebration of Eostre, goddess of Spring, otherwise known as Ostara, Austra, and Eastre. One of the most revered aspects of Ostara for both ancient and modern observers is a spirit of renewal.Celebrated at Spring Equinox on March 21, Ostara marks the day when light is equal to darkness, and will continue to grow. As the bringer of light after a long dark winter, the goddess was often depicted with the hare, an animal that represents the arrival of spring as well as the fertility of the season.

Yep, Ishtar / Easter is a sun god festival. Does anyone know the real Easter story? It goes like this. Semiramis wife of Nimrod died and went to heaven. She became impregnated with the rays of the sun and returned to earth in a giant egg which landed in the Euphrates river and burst open. Out came Easter or Ishtar the bare breasted sex goddess of fertility. To prove her divinity she turned a bird into an egg laying rabbit. Semiramis now called Easter, her son's name was Tammuz. Remember, Semiramis was impregnated with the rays of the sun. Tammuz can be found in the Bible in Ezekiel 8:16-18. Kind of sounds like an Easter sun rise service today to me. Israel picked up this pagan sun God worship while in the Babylonian captivity.

Am I reaching? I guess the difference is the origin. Esther is NOT rooted in pagan gods but "Easter" aka Resurrection is unfortunately associated with it. Hears a question, although it wasn't commanded as an annual feast, what if Jesus Resurrection was connected on purpose so that believers won't commemorate the importance of his death ie just like the unbiblical celebration of Esther. Esther is Ishtar but name only because if you read the book of Esther, her uncle tells her to adopt a name of the locals which was Ishtar because Babylon had been conquered by Persia. Her original name is Hadaasah but it could have been Ashter-oth too, either way the celebration is implied by the pagan church of Catholicism that's why it's not following the original timing of it, which has passed already but instead plunks it down on Sunday. Sunday is their day for everything special. Ashter-oth or Ishtar is the same name but oth means mark or basically oath or promise. NOTHING, I MEAN NOTHING that comes from the modern church is safe. You have to study and weigh it all to find the truth. There are two types of people. People who pray to learn the truth and gain the trust and patience of the Father like the Son or people who want to stick with their comfortable beliefs because it makes their life easier and simple. It's either in the Word or it's not but also has the Word you use been tampered with? How do you know or at least gain confidence in it? Good luck my friend, you'll need it. Churches didn’t get in this mess overnight and it will take time to transition out. Never got a reply but I was faithful to share. Have been observing Passover and His feasts for 10 years. These are our wedding rehearsals preparing us for His return. He moves and acts according to His appointed times. This will be a great video to share. Many thanks and Praise Yah! @@zurinafebruary9931 Hi Zurina, like Phil shared I observe Passover on the 14th day of the biblical calendar. I use the Covenant Calendar and this year Passover falls on April 2nd on the Gregorian calendar. To observe Passover, one should pray, praise Him, read Scripture, and read the gospel of how He instructed us to observe Passover in remembrance of Him with bread and wine or grape juice, representing His body and blood, then observe the priestly act of foot washing by removing our sandals and choosing to walk in His ways not ours. (1Peter 2:9-10). Though there are differing thoughts on whether to use unleavened or not, in the Gospels, the bread is defined as ‘Artos’ in Greek meaning ‘raised loaf’ with the New Covenant. Then from the 15th-21st of the 1st month of Abib we observe the 7 days of Unleavened Bread. I have more information on my website at this link. www.thelibbylink.com/spring-feast Yahusha (Jesus of Nazareth) doesn’t expect us to be perfect, He just expects us to do the best we can in our sanctification process. Blessings to you on your journey with our Groom.

I read through most of these comments. This was a subject that concerned me. I saw many pros and cons on calling the Resurrection, Easter. And when it occurred. I’ve been a Christian ever since I could remember. I always celebrated Easter and even as a child I always focused on Jesus’ death and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins. Calling it Easter never changed my faith. But recently I’ve been calling it Resurrection Day. Seeing the controversy on this subject gave me a feeling of being torn. This is none other than a stumbling block created by Satan to distract us from the truth. I believe that God would want us to focus on what Jesus did for us on the cross. And celebrating our Christian holidays has made many souls aware of our Christian beliefs and brought them to Christ our savior. Don’t let anything distract you from what is the most important. Jesus our messiah.

I agree about it being an opportunity to witness to non-believers. People are generally more willing to go to church at Christmas and Easter, so it's a good time to reach out to them. However, I would say that the Passover DOES celebrate Jesus' death and resurrection, because Jesus was the ultimate Passover lamb. Just as the Hebrews' first born sons were redeemed by the blood of the lamb, so we are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb 😊

To the folks who claim that Passover is only for "Israel"! Once you accept Yeshua as Messiah you are "Grafted IN" to Israel. It will not always be on an Sunday, I have convince a few this year that the Catholic church Easter is more outrageous this year than the previous years since His resurrection is celebrated before His actual date of death, but Gods word cannot penetrate the teaching of man. Millions including Pastors will WRONGLY convince their congregations that March 31st is day Christ resurrection took place almost 2000 years ago: The anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: 1st John 2:27

It's a sobering thought to realize that we have inherited nothing but lies from our forefathers. Jeremiah 16:19 This is the first year that I have not made preparations for celebrating Easter or holy week. The first year we will remember/observe Passover on the correct time. Since my one and only son died in 2022 I have been on a journey for Truth and understanding. Yehovah is so merciful and great. In 2022 I was asking him why? Why did you allow my son to die? Why couldn't you help us? Why didn't you answer my prayer ,my supplication? Before his death my sons last words were: Mom, please tell the people we are not dead. 3x I was confused and at the same time the realization hit me that my son was dying. I was not going to church. I had stopped years ago. I was sad at what was happening in the church and felt that it made no sense or brought no happiness to be a follower. Probably God didn't exist or even Jesus? Actually what I felt was that they were real just that religion wasn't real or the Truth. My church wasn't upholding the Truth. So by the time my son died it hit me so hard that it forced me to really take a look at what I was believing in. His last words were not in line with what I had been taught. When we die we don't go anywhere but to the grave. Adventists don't believe in the believers soul going to the presence of Jesus. Both body and soul sleep. The truth is I wasn't worried about my son having died per se. But more because I had not taught my son the church's beliefs. When he was 12 he had asked to be baptized and I had said : "no, you must wait till your a mature enough person." I didn't want him to join the church by an impression due to his young age like I had. When your 18 which legally is an adult and you firmly make that decision then you can do it and I'll support you. Not be baptized just because schoolteacher is having a week of revival teaching. So the biggest and heaviest question on my heart was, what did I do!? Was my son saved? My beliefs is that you have to be baptized yes or yes in order to be saved. He believed in Jesus but was not baptized. It wasn't these questions that got my attention to realize that I believed in traditions of men as the Bible says. It was a bold statement made in a post on FB of A RoodWakening taught by Michael Rood. The COP 27 was just taking place in November of the year 2022 and just a few days after my sons death. The activities included the presentation of the ' ten commandments of climatic change' on Mount Sinai. I didn't care about anything of the like , infact I wasn't aware what was going on. My pastime was Face book or playing games , watching videos on KZread not looking at world stuff or at preachers preaching in my spare time. So when this post showed up on my feed, I was caught by the statement " they are imitating Moises" presentation of the 10 commandments and going up the "false Mount Sinai". I immediately commented that they were saying nonsense! Mount Sinai can't be a false mountain since that's where Moises got the 10 commandments. Then they gave me an explanation and asked to visit KZread and find Micheal Roods videos. From there it has been one thing to the next! Blasphemy on their part to say that Jesus name is rightfully Yeshua. Nonsense that the Bible says that Jesus didn't die on Friday. And this about Easter not being Passover as instituteed by Yehovah??!!! My church has taught for decades upon decades about the last supper and celebrate at Easter time. Even if it's different ritual than the Catholic church but it's just like every other protestant church observes in the season of Easter. I lost my Faith in my church and found my Messiah and God! That's all that matters to me now. Without realizing it the day my son died on November 1st , the moment I plead with God to please help my son and I. He was quick to answer my prayer. My family and I needed him the most. Yehovah reveals the truth of himself to those who he chooses. Every day is strengthening what I have learned. Now my free time is more for the word of God and less for worldly stuff on FB and KZread. The amount of biblical truths content found here on KZread is huge. When Yeshua returns how can one say I didn't know? Shalom

@@ednadiaz4193 Last Supper and Passover are the same. Gentiles call it the Last Supper which is the truth: Before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that His hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto His Father: John 13:1 Passover is the death of Christ, the so called Easter represent the resurrection of Christ two different events. The church separates the resurrection from Christ death (Passover), why? Don't know no one has an answer. I guess because Israel had feast days under the old covenant, the church feels that they need to make up religious celebrations like the old covenant.

I'm still not convinced in the words stated that Jesus was telling us to continue passover on a certain day. That sounds like legalism to me. I'm not worshipping a goddess on resurrection day I'm acknowledging the resurrection of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I agree the eggs and Easter bunny is pagan and should be avoided. It is a curious fact that in many European languages Easter still keeps its Passover identity e.g. Pacqua in Italian or Pasen in Dutch, but English uses a totally different word Easter. Like you I lament that lack of any linkage between Passover and Easter in many Christians minds and experience. However Passover is a memorial of God's deliverance from slavery in Egypt by the blood of a lamb - a once for all event remembered every year. Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper during a Passover meal. This is what we celebrate every time we share the Lord's Supper - a once for all event continuously remembered. Easter, however, is a celebration of the Lord's resurrection, the feast of Firstfruits. The early church gathered on the first day of the week to remember the Lord's resurrection. The real split from Passover came when Easter was fixed as the first full moon after the equinox, rather than the solely lunar Jewish calendar, which in 2024 means that Easter and Passover are almost a month apart.. Christ is Risen! The difference between the solar and the lunar calendar is the difference for the date of Passover and Easter. Look up reason and theology’s video of “do we celebrate Easter on the wrong day” or something to this effect. You run the risk of dishonoring the lord by not reveling in his day of resurrection, whether that be Easter or Sunday. The incarnate God was made flesh for us and calls us to gnaw of his flesh and drink of his blood, and on that very day 3,000 left him. It is said in the gospel that this would be a stumbling block for those who cannot accept his revelation. You who lack this lack the fullness of his divine institution, the inheritance of his divine church and order. Work out your salvation through fear and trembling. The awesome God is upon us, rejoice in his resurrection. Do not fall prey to the Judaizers as warned in Acts. May our incarnate God be with all of you on this glorious day of Resurrection.

I think someone forgot about the godess Ishtar. She predates judism. And she is the babalonian godess of sex and fertility and is associated with eggs and rabbits/hares (not like 99% of us could tell the difference between the two when looking at a 2000 year old drawing) And Ishtar is associated with spring as well. Its much more likely that Ishtar the "queen of heaven" and wife of Baal found her way into christianity then a godess from germany that is probably a modernized version of one and the same.

Because all of the Protestant churches came out of the Catholic church and carried on most of the traditions. It's hard to stop a tradition that has gone on for centuries, especially when the truth has been hidden or twisted and then carried on by all of the Bible Colleges and preachers. You know, if you tell a lie long enough...

I was raised Adventist and I sincerely thought that we had the Truth because we keep Sabbath on Saturday. However, I was wrong. We still follow many traditions/lies of men by inheritance. And our pastors refuse to accept the Truth. Maybe because they are afraid to loose their congregations membership? Which is sad.

@@crp9347 I stopped going to church when I was pregnant so one time during one of my pregnancies don't remember if it was with my last pregnancy (which was a boy) or with one of my 4 girls ,a church leader (deaconess) came to my home to inquire as to why I wasn't going to church. I was asked if I wasn't going regularly that I could be taken off the books or church register. But that I needed to give my tithes also. I didn't say much other than I wasn't feeling well during my pregnancy but that if they wanted they could do whatever they saw fit as my tithes depended on if my unbelieving husband have me as I didn't work myself. Since then I simply stopped going altogether. I went to church only on two occasions. For the death of my stepmom and later my Dad. I was just discouraged and wondering is this all there is? When my son was 12 years old he came home one day from school and asked permission to be baptized in the Adventist church. (he attended our Adventist school) all my daughters went to the catholic school which is just across the road in front of our house. It was as during a week of prayer and study and he was accompanied by his principal. I told him No. Please wait till you reach a more mature age and once your 18 if you still are decided to do so I'll support your decision even if I myself don't believe in the churches teachings. I didn't want him to accept a religion because that was what I was raised in but because it was truth to him and not pressured by anyone. Sad to say he died at age 16 in November 1st ,2022. As a mother who fears God but couldn't stomach her churches dogmas or doctrines or theology... I was very concerned I had failed my son. It's one thing to have to face judgement for your own sins or disbelief but another to lead or fail your own blood and flesh. Parents are supposed to be the ones who raise your child in Yehovahs ways. I taught them all to believe in God and Jesus. Although I didn't keep Sabbath by then we did talk about obeying God it wasn't a very satisfying feeling as I felt that something was missing. This meant my understanding of who Jesus is was very out of touch with truth and reality. On the day of his death , just before he died he looked at me intently and said : Mom, please tell the people that we are not dead. 3 times he said these words. At that moment I realized he was dying and my heart sunk within me. His sickness was just recent. Barely a day had past a little over 24 hrs since being sick and now he's dying. I tried to sing my favorite song called Consider the lilies to help him calm down but just couldn't continue. So I looked at him and said your not dying or dead yet. But he repeated what he had said the first and second time and with such an urgency for me to understand: Mom, please tell the people we are not dead. He didn't speak to me after that. And soon after died on the way to the hospital. All the way I prayed and encouraged him to trust God and that soon we'd be there at the hospital. An agonizing 25 or so minutes of rough roads which was but 16 miles. My husband never told me that he was dued about 10 minutes from the hospita as I was the one driving. My prayer was please help my son , God please help us! Please help me! At that moment I thought he hadn't heard my prayers. He allowed my son to die. My husband cursed God in the days ahead as our grief was still fresh. We couldn't understand why and what had happened because he was a very healthy kid. At least visibly he was . Today I can say that Yehovah answered my prayers swiftly. Even if my heart can't stand it much (the loss)yet stand it it must. In the same month soon after I came across a post on FB thats of A Roodawakening by Michael Rood and it was about COP 27 or something like that and someone commented that they were going up the false Mount Sinai. That was blasphemy to me. 😆 Then I was directed to his KZread videos and I found more "blasphemies" there! How dare they say that my Jesus is a Greek or Romanized or whatever form of Jesus and that his name is Yeshua! So I had to find out what craziness this was. And they were messianic or Hebrew something to top it off. Darned Jews killed our savior and don't believe in him was all I could think. Plus Israel was rejected by Yehovah and they no longer were his people. Nope! Your wrong they claimed. Well since then I've learned much and still learning. I've heard many messianic teachers and presently listen to a few including Baruch Korman. And praise Yehovah and Yeshua we now keep even if it be imperfectly Shabbat and my husband who never tried to or was willing to become an Adventist after years of our union now keeps Shabbat. And Yehovah willing this year we will keep our first Passover as Yehovah ordained the Israelites. Today is Saturday for is here in Central America. And just a while ago I had the opportunity to share my findings with a Adventist sister who said to me that she hasn't stopped going to church(we don't have any messianic congregation here)but that she too has see the truth about Yeshuas death and resurrection and that it doesn't coincide with Passover and that she didn't really know when exactly it was to be kept. She believes that Yehovah is showing sincer believers all around the world to come back to the True Faith. We both agreed that the holy spirit moved her to go with the youth group that visited me today so that we could talk after they left. Before she left I timidly but with resolve invited her to join us for Passover on the 23rd of April. Yehovah our Lord works in mysterious ways. My Messiah is so wonderful and to him all praise and glory! The Lamb is worthy of my praise! Indeed Yeshua is the fountain of living waters and whoever drinks of him thirsteth not. No truer words than what he himself said: the Truth shall set you free. My heart of flesh will always yearn for my son till the glorious day Yeshua resurrects the faithful. But my heart at the same time has found peace. And I am satisfied. Let us stand True and faithful to Yehovah and Yeshua! Shalom

I was born and raised Catholic and we never celebrated or knew about Passover. Holy communion was only given the wafer . Only the priest drank the wine . In the comments I wonder which Catholic Church denomination observed Passover and where ? I left the RC Church 57 years ago to a Sabbath keeping Church but unfortunately some pagan traditions are still observed .

Thank you for the compelling evidence that the Passover should be observed by those wanting to follow Christ today and that the traditions of Easter are pagan and should not be followed. Mark 7:7 NKJV And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ We need to check for ourselves to see if what we do is what God instructs or is it a tradition of man that is contrary to what He says.

You may be surprised what God tells you. Don't listen to men. Listen and Hear God's Voice for yourself. Then, Obey God in all you do.
