Fireflies is one of my top ten all time favorite songs. Not just because I love fireflies. The composition is just amazing and beautiful to me. Adam Young is a true artist. I love so much of his work

It's kinda ironic the way that the song has become nostalgic for so many, even though the entire purpose of the song is to warn us about nostalgia.

I feel so old listening to this in 2024 I was in 5th grade when I first heard this song, and from then on I became an owl City fan, thanks Adam Young..

No one asked, but im the youngest of 6, and all of them have significant age gaps from me (3-9 years kinda gap) so there was some special times before my siblings moved out when my parents werent home and we would all vibe to this song. I was young then but still old enough to know these would be the nostolgia moments i would miss. Now theyre pretty much all moved out and we're all growing up.

Pure nastalgia one time I watched the video at night for the first time in like 7 years and I couldn't fall asleep

No its not about hallucinations he says in an interview he indeed has insomnia, but he often likes to fantasize things very beyond kinda like being a creative writer, singer or artist, thats what he doe if he cant sleep at all, well cuz it makes him feel tired or bored, but at the end fantasizing things already makes him sleepy because of overthinking, but he just cant help himself he wants to think more. There thats all i have observed and analyzed on the song, as a artistic teenager who suffers from insomnia too ofc its deeply relatable.
