    It definitely was a weird circumstance, that's for sure. Especially since ther were at least 2 times before where they did issue Erratas to cards with mistranslations(Blaine's Charizard and Rocket's Minefield Gym) to be like the original counterparts.

    Ah, but whose "the stupid" is it really when people keep pumping money into fundamentally broken games despite knowing better? The creators making millions or the gullible rubes still buying the stuff? I mean, that's basically been Konami's entire business model for well over a decade now. I don't exaggerate or speculate when I say that the YuGiOh competitive scene has been a one deck format in the not so distant past. (might still be, but I stopped bothering after seeing a major tournament last year where over 90% of the players were running the Tearlements deck. That's 90% of a tournament with the better part of 1000 entrants.)

    @@atmosdwagon4656 continuing on about Yugioh, it was followed by a second one deck format, but then Konami started working on cleaning things up. right now there are a couple top decks, but a wide variety of other decks have a shot. case in point: a Blue-Eyes player made top 16 at a regional in Bolivia recently.

    @@alexwilson5256 I guess so. It's just so weird how WotC ended up prioritizing the bans, where Sneasel happened roughly around Neo Discovery's release, while Slowking's happened around the time WotC was going to lose the license soon, which was after Neo Destiny.

    he stated no card got Banned in the Standard Era of WotC (which be Base-Neo Format). The first Modified Format/Set Rotation for the game(aka Rocket-On) had Sneasel be the first card to go, with Slowking following about a year later. Alsdo while there were no Bans in the Standard Era, there were at least 2 cards considered Illegal for Standard at the time(Birthday Pikachu and Ancient Mew) which were essentially bans anyway.

    I still remember when they screwed up Ocean Dragon Lord and forgot to put the part where he had to be brought out by sacrificing Leviadragon, completely breaking the card..lol, it's wild to me that a company would screw up like this and not fix it.

    Crazy to me that a company would do that and not errata the card after coming from a game like Yugioh..lol, I remember a few situations like this and the card always got errata'd. I understand it complicates things, but if you're playing at tournament level it shouldn't be hard to have the "proper" version of the card available for everyone to see.

    Come on man. Really? I played yugioh for 20 years and even competed at the highest level. And I have never met a person saying erratas are a good thing. Most people prefer cards staying banned instead of coming off as some soft version that no one is playing. CED, Firewall dragon, etc.. there are a lot of examples. And to be fair; I love the yugioh IP to death. However I feel that Yugioh and PTCG are evolving asymmetrical to each other. While yugioh was good up to one point and now is becoming an alienated version of itself, Pokemon was not great as a competitive game first, but slowly changed into a much more playable and interactive (although with limits due to its gaming structure) version of itself.

    I played Slowking just to get an achievement with Unowns, on TCG ONE. The thing is though, on TCG ONE, Slowking uses the japanese rules. however luckily for me, not many players knew this when i was matched against them, and would moan that i'm using a banned card, and leave the match. even though the ingame chat log, would clearly state that the Slowking is using the Japanese rules. Neo Genesis Sneasel is still banned in Career formats though, but not banned in unlimited

    I never really got too into the card game. I think the last I played was when the gym leader sets came out. People I knew collected the cards, but nobody I knew actually played the game. Had a few games against some kids in school at recess and lunch. Nobody knew any meta strategies or anything. I always made sure to use trainers for searching and drawing. Lass was always part of a combo I used. The main goal was to get blastoise out. Sometimes, I even used the pokemon breeder card. Play all my draw and search cards (bill, prof oak, computer search, etc.). Hopefully getting 5 water energies on Blastoise and something on the bench as backup by the time my searches and draws ran out. Then, when I finished finding whatever I wanted, I played Lass to get rid of any of my opponent's trainers, so they were less likely to be able to set up or have any counter play on their next turn.

    What is it about the Sneasel card that makes it ban-worthy?

  • @taylorsmith984

    @taylorsmith984

    5 ай бұрын

    It was more Sneasel in combination with darkness energy than just Sneasel itself, although Sneasel was pretty ridiculous. Each Darkness energy increased the damage of an attack by 10, and Beat Up, requiring 2 Darkness by default, would do 40 damage per head at minimum (+10 from each darkness). If you had a full 6 Pokemon out, Sneasel was able to do a potential max of 240 damage each turn. 3 Heads would have been enough to KO just about anything that wasn't a Steelix with multiple Steel energy attached to it. Base 60HP with no weakness on Sneasel also made it near impossible to knock out off of just 1 energy (ironically, unless you had your own Sneasel with a Darkness Eneregy and got very lucky on a 3-heads Fury Swipes). Keep in mind, that the average damage for a 1-energy move was around 20 damage, and most Pokemon with these moves weren't super strong. Sneasel's 0 retreat cost also meant your opponent could just swap it out for something else until they could re-establish control if they ever felt threatened. Fighting Sneasel was almost always a losing battle, and your opponent could take 2-3 prizes cards before the 1 you'd get for knocking the Sneasel out if they could get the 2 Darkness energy on it.

  • @nicholasfarrell5981

    @nicholasfarrell5981

    5 ай бұрын

    @taylorsmith984 also, Energy Removal and Super Energy Removal were no longer legal at that point. So you actually had to knock Sneasel out to get rid of the Darkness Energies (I remember that point specifically being mentioned in the ban announcement, back when Fossil Pokémon walked the Earth for the first time around).

  • @jamie5341

    @jamie5341

    5 ай бұрын

    @Taylorsmith984 No, it would max out at 140. You flip 20 for each heads, a max of 6 flips = 120. The 2 darkness energy +10s are added after the flips, they dont increase they amount per flip. So it would do a max of 140, and statiscally averages 80 a turn with a full bench
