Many years ago, when I got out of our navy - I worked in the shipyard for a while - a ship came in (foreign flag). The captain had the money for needed repairs, but he spent most of it on the Captains quarters. Not on the needed repairs so the Coast Guard got involved and would not let him leave. It was scary at times I though we might step thru the deck. I was glad when they let the damn thing go.
I have seen some of this in real time, pretty amazing.

I recently saw the use of a small handheld laser being used for paint an rust removal. I wonder how long it will be before a larger version will be used on ships. This laser did in minutes, what would have taken hours any other way.
