How Often You Should Shower And Wash Hair | Responding To Comments Ep. 22

You’ve been sending me some really interesting questions recently, so I decided to do another episode of Responding to Comments to get to the bottom of some medical mysteries. Today I talk about how often you should shower and wash your hair, why we kick when we sleep, what causes an itch, why we administer vaccines in the shoulder, ringing ears, runny noses from spicy food and hot wings, posture correctors, electrolytes, stomach growling, and the truth of getting 10,000 steps a day. Drop a comment down below if there’s a medical question you’d like me to answer!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

Showers: when I was in my late 20s - 30s; when I worked a full time job plus worked horses 5-6 days a week; I sure did NEED to shower every day. Now that I’m 69 1/2, disabled from a type of stroke that is fatal 70% of the time (luckily a rarer type of stroke), am retired and still trying to learn to walk again, it’s fine if I shower every 2 or 3 days. So when “SHOULD people shower”? Depends. As you get older, you realize that “it depends” is frequently the “correct” answer.

Barber here, TO NOT HAVE TO WASH YOUR HAIR EVERY DAY: stop washing your hair every day. When your hair is used to being washed every day, your hair/scalp can overcompensate and produce oils faster. For a month, wash your hair every 3-5 days, or go as long as you can. Don't wet your hair either- wetting without washing makes your hair look greasy because it surfaces the oils. Use dry shampoo if you must. Sweat coming from your head will most likely not smell- just be sure to wash your face and the rest of your body. (Ask a friend if you smell from not washing your hair.) I'm very confident that after this month you'll be able to go 2-3 days without washing it. Go 4-5 days here and there.

Dry shampoo can be dagerous if not washed right next day. I would say wash your scalp whenever it's oily. We have hormones and sometimes it can couse sebum overproduction. I would not advice anybody to just hold off from washing hair when it's visable that they need to be cleaned. And if the sebum production is sevire I would advice to go see your doctor. I wash my hair every single day, and they are fine with it ;)

As for showering, i put it in the category of self care. It’s my ME time and its hard to sleep without my shower. Only time I have skipped is when I’m too sick to stand up. I light a candle, put on some music, it’s like I’m cleansing the day away. I moisturize right after and have no issues with dry skin.

By the time you can smell anything, others around you are already uncomfortable and if you think skin does not stink elsewhere than in specific places, yes, yes it does. About the showering thing: I had a chest catheter for about a year and was hyper paranoid about getting it wet, per my doctors instructions. I did wash my hair in the sink, used deodorant, and practice daily hygiene on problem areas. And to be fair I live in a cool climate where it’s between 40 and 60 degrees every day and was also not able to go to the gym or do much that got my heart rate up. That said, I did not have an actual shower with the splashing water et al for an entire year, and was absolutely fine. You can absolutely make it a judgement call when you need to do it or not.

We should check up our hearing just like we check our sight, get bloodwork done etc .We take our hearing for granted tbh but hearing loss is terrible. I get mine tested every year as of two years ago or so. I thought I might have damaged my hearing because I got tinnitus after a nasty sinus infection, but my ENT and the audiologist says I have normal hearing and everything looks perfect, so it’s not hearing loss. 🤔

Now i have finally found a Dr that has looked at the whole picture and finally admitted that 'yes' something is obviously wrong as i am so sick and in pain most of the time. It took all of that time and multitudes of doctors to find one that would finally 'hear' me and stop looking at the labs long enough to realize that I was sick, no matter what the labs said.
